What are some age appropriate chores for a ten year old? And maybe even a 3.5 year old? I’m trying to get a chore chart made up for my kids for during the summer. Right now my 3.5 year old doesn’t have any chores (not that she would listen to me anyway if I asked her to do anything
3.5 help her clean up her toys …. And 10 let them take garbage out and clean up their own mess but remember they are still kids
Matching socks, or folding towels/washcloths. Putting dirty clothes in the basket or down the chute. Putting the new trash bag in the can. Dusting furniture, picking up toys. You just can’t expect perfection.
10 year old ,Set the table ,empty/ fill the dishwasher , clean their room , take out the rubbish. 3.5 put away toys when done
Ten year old can clean his room. Fold towels, take garbage out. Three year old can pick up toys.
Wash windows or their spot at the table, dusting with supervision they like doing stuff as toddlers if u make it exciting. Maybe throwing away trash or get them a kids’ size broom. They won’t be great at it but they will learn as they grow. Older kid def can help fold laundry & put away their own clothes and keep room tidy, clean toilet and dust, vacuum maybe even be taught how to run the washer or dryer depending on kid & the machine
3.5 year old pick up after themselves, make bed.
10 year old, clean room, set table for dinner, pick up after them self, vacuum, take out trash. I started to teach my kids how to do laundry at 10.
My son helps with laundry and he likes to cook. He also knows how to wash dishes but that is not his chore. He cleans his room and takes care of his animals
Anything really… laundry…cutting vegetables…clean toilet and sinks…dust…vacuum…load dishwasher and unload…
My 4 year old and 2 year old niece will take a lysol wipe and clean things, they ask to do this when they see me pull them out. It’s not much or a thorough clean but it gets them helping.
I have a 12 & 10 year old. They are responsible for their rooms, they pick up their bathroom (I clean the tub & toliet) one folds the towels while the other unloads the dishwasher, one blows off the porch and the other takes out the trash. After dinner one wipes the table and the other spot sweeps.
If my kids rooms are not picked up they loose their internet. I tell them give me 30 minutes a day & the rest of it is your time.
10 year old can do pretty much anything you teach them. My 3.5 year old is in charge of bringing everyone’s dirty laundry down to the washing machine on Saturdays and picking up toys.
My 3 year old (4 in less then a month) cleans up his toys, helps feed the puppies, tops up their water, will dust / wipe reachable tables windows and counters, he also helps put away his clothing when i have it all sorted and ready for the dresser He also tried to help vacuuming, and empty the dishwasher when clean.
My 5 year old does all the above plus, helps pack his lunch for school, empty his backpack at the end of every day.
I find with my kiddos if they see us doing stuff they want to help which is great - so we’ve just turned it into a chore for them. Obviously some stuff doesn’t get done perfectly, but it’s still great responsibility for them and the more they do it, the better they get
Little kids can dry silverware and put it on the table along with napkins and anything else unbreakable, like whole fruit. With supervision littles can toss clothes in the wash machine and into and out of the dryer if front loading; use a step stool if not. Fold washcloths and small towels, maybe match socks? They can dust anything they can reach, hold the dustpan while you sweep (give them a try using the broom too), putting trash in the can. Make it easy for toddlers to puck up their rooms with shelves and bins labeled with words and pictures.
The 10 year old can do most anything you teach him. Rotate chores after a while so by the time he’s on his own he knows how to do pretty much everything around the house.
My 8 year old can strip her bed, tidy her room, put her clothes away and unload the dishwasher. Sometimes she’ll hang washing out and bring it in but doing these things isn’t every week lol. My 2 year old helps us tidy her toys
