Anyone had back to back UTIs? I just had one on August 4th and got antibiotics. Now I have another one.
Drink lots of water and only pure cranberry juice, found at health food stores. I mix it with a little apple juice to make it less bitter. The cranberry juice “cocktails” (like Ocean Spray) have so much sugar it negates the benefit of drinking it. The juice hits your system faster than cranberry caps, which are also an option.
Be sure to take acidophilus at every meal and eat foods for a low yeast diet (low carb, very low sugar, cut back on salt, no alcohol, fruit juice or fermented foods, cut out as much processed food as you can, for example) while on antibiotics and incorporate these habits to a degree for life. Antibiotics kill the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria in your digestive system that keep your gut flora healthy and yeast that contributes to UTIs in check.
You may have to cook more yourself because American prepared food pretty much is all full of too much sugar and salt, especially our bread. Some food prep services like Blue Apron can be helpful delivering fresh ingredients and simple prep. My fave is Marley Spoon by Martha Stewart. Frozen vegetables are better than canned which have salt. Add more fiber to your diet. Brown rice, 100% whole wheat bread and pasta or alternative pasta (made from chick peas, edamame or quinoa) or zoodles vs. white, and smaller quantities. Lettuce wraps instead of bread.
If you want juice, no more than 4-8 oz. I dilute it with water to fool myself into thinking I’m having more. It’s natural sugar, but sugar nonetheless, has no fiber like fresh fruits, and hits your bloodstream right away.
Exercise and meditation help keep stress at bay which helps also.
Wipe front to back on the toilet. Douche with plain organic yogurt. Sounds weird, is messy, but helps & is soothing. Don’t “hold it” and pee right away when you have to.
Ask people in your local health food store what teas are good to drink to combat UTIs, and if there are any herbal or homeopathic remedies you can take to boost your immunity to UTIs. If your health plan has an alternative medicine provider use their advice too. Any remedies (but not supplements) they recommend should be covered by insurance.
Good luck! Changing my habits changed my life for the healthier.
I drink cranberry juice sugar free. I use to always get UTIs . I also buy Ural cranberry tablets to help prevent them .
