Anyone use puppy pads on their bed?

Can I ask as your due date approaches, any mama’s put puppy pads down on your bed or anything just in case your water breaks while sleeping? I’m 35+1 but all my coworkers say they delivered between 36-37 weeks due to the high activity of the job so I’m just thinking, I really don’t wanna have to buy a new mattress if my water breaks while I’m sleeping so I’m wondering what I could put down to protect the mattress.

buy a waterproof mattress protector, great to have on the bed at any time

I used these. My water broke while I was sitting on the couch. I wandered around for about 30 minutes calling people and then the 21 minute drive to the hospital. They held up for all of it. No mess on anything.

My water never broke at home with all 4 kids.

Puppy pads are a very clever idea…

Just because that’s when they went into labor doesn’t mean you will. I was very active with my pregnancies and still delivered at 40 weeks. Puppy pads or get a water proof bed cover.

I have a waterproof mattress protector, and I also buy waterproof mats from Conni online, sometimes ALDI stock Conni as well

Gross. Get a mattress cover already. People actually go without one in their bed?

My water didn’t break at home with either of mine

I carried 3 kids doing the same exact job. They all came at different times. Don’t bank on going into labor the same time those ladies did. My water broke with 2 and neither time was it enough to ruin my mattress. I would just use a mattress cover. It’s probably cheaper than puppy pads.

I used a plastic shower curtain toward end of my pregnancy and slept on couch for back support🤪. My water never broke at home. Had to be induced😩

Or you can get kiddos bed mats exactly the same as pee pads just alot bigger… i dont think a pee pad would be able to contain it all if your waters properly broke :white_heart:

Bedside nurse here. On my feet 12 hours a day for 4/5 in a row. Egress pregnancies. First one came the day before her due date, the second came on his due date, and the last came a week and a half late. I went into labor naturally with all 3, my water didnt break until i was at the hospital with all 3. Every woman and every pregnancy is different. BUT if you are wanting something preventative I would suggest a mattress cover because while it may be more expensive up front you can use it long term and I can almost guarantee your new baby will puke or pee on your bed at some point, probably multiple times, and you will be thankful for it then.

Buy a reusable bed pad for incontinence

My water broke at home at 35 weeks even. It was like I peed myself but definitely not enough to destroy my mattress tho. But hey if it makes you feel comfortable than use the pad just incase. On the way to the hospital I had put a thick layer of towels underneath me :joy:

A waterproof mattress pad is always on the bed. My water broke at the hospital with both my babies

You could just wear the giant pads they give you at the hospital (pretty you can buy them online) to bed every night that should keep you protected

I would suggest a waterproof mattress pad for sure. Especially if you plan to breastfeed there is a good chance you will wake up at some point soaked in milk. The issue with puppy pads is that they will make noise and move around easily. Not saying that you can’t use them though. I was always worried I was going to have my water break in my car. I’ve given birth twice and both times I had to have my water broken but everyone and every labor is different. Good luck!

Put baby pee pads. Pet ones have chemicals

My water has broken in bed with 2 of my kids. First it was never enough to ruin the mattress second get a water proof mattress pad ( I know they are like top sheets no one uses them anymore they sell them everywhere they sell sheets they are cheap!) last don’t give yourself a problem u don’t have… get a mattress pad and don’t think about it again! U have more than enough to concern yourself with this doesn’t need to be one of them. Oh your gonna want the matttress pad for after u give birth anyway!!

These are a great option and can be used on your kiddos mattress for leaks and during potty training

i would say have mattress protectors on the mattress. ive broke at the hospital myself but lost mucus plug on first one at my work wasnt working though that night. or should say moring

You would probably be fine after it breaks it’s just a trickle until you stand up
Likely mine broke while I was peeing so I was good !

My water broke with two of my kids. Both times I was laying down and nothing actually came out until I stood up. I would just get a waterproof mattress cover. A puppy pad isn’t going to stay put. If your that worried I would pick up adult diapers. I bought those since I had an hour long drive to the hospital and didn’t want to ruin my mom’s seats in her car.

I invested in a waterproof mattress protector. But with my first baby, the doctor broke my water and the second baby’s broke on my bathroom floor :woman_shrugging:t3: the mattress protector will give you a peace of mind.

A mattress cover, they make waterproof mattress covers

No. Out of 9 pregnancies only one birth my water was “movie worthy”. Plus it’s probably not going to stay in place. If anything an actual mattress protector . We have those on all our mattresses because things happen.

Don’t count on it being the same as someone else’s. If that makes you more comfortable and gives you peace of mind, then do it.

I used waterproof mattress padding then put thick velvet blanket so I don’t feel the waterproof padding like plastic at night especially me sweating all night. Then I use regular mattress padding and fitted so I’m all good I used it with all my pregnancies and all of my babies that spit up, puke, peed and poop also my breast milk leak too. I had my mattress for 16 years and looking like brand new and clean.

Order one of those xl reusable pads like you see in the hospital bed…they come in handy for after you deliver (protects bed against bleeding leaks) and are super absorbant

Get a plastic mattress cover. Then you can get Good Nights mats. They stick.
Puppy pads really aren’t thick enough. :blue_heart:

We used drynites bed mats by huggies. They are for kids when they are potty training at night but can be used for this as well.

i have waterproof mattress protectors
