Anyones son get UTI's?

Has anyone dealt with their little boy having Utis? My 5 year old woke up this morning crying saying that his lower back hurt really bad. Took him to urgent care and they were surprised to find bacteria in his urine. They said it is not common for boys to get Utis but I’m always worried about kidney infection. They put him on augmentin.

My son had a terrible habit of only passing urine until the sensation to go left and never emptied his bladder properly. Constantly fighting uti and took a really long time to get him dry at night. For a long time we used to stop him in the middle of an activity and make his try the bathroom. 9 time out of 10 he would pee. Also make school aware. They will ask to use the bathroom more often and teachers get annoyed. But they genuinely need. This also can cause infection when they are scared to ask

Try to get him to completely empty his bladder when he goes to the bathroom. Sometimes kids want to play and rush. Also make sure he’s drinking at least half his body weight in oz enough water

My son spent a week in the hospital with one and he had drank so much water (water was all he drank at that age couldn’t get him to drink anything else). He had flushed his system out had real low potassium and other things (been awhile so I don’t remember all of it). That was the only one he every had but they did suggest giving him cranberry juice daily just incase.

If he’s taking bubble baths or using bath bombs it can cause it.

My sons never had it, it’s pretty rare for men to get them, but make sure he’s not holding his pee like a lot of kids do, make sure he’s fully emptying his bladder, drinking enough water, no bubble baths, try to get some cranberry juice in his diet(real juice not the cocktails) and stay hygienic of course.

Give him cranberry juice every day, it helps flush the kidneys out as well as the urinary track. I have a kidney disease and this is what I’ve had to do since little to help keep from getting UTIs constantly. Also if he takes baths a lot instead of showers, the soap can cause this issue. Typically it’s not an issue of how well they clean (urine is self cleansing within) but more of what enters the area. Dirt ect. Also if he’s not drinking enough water, to flush the bacteria out and flush the kidneys, it will lead to this.

My oldest used to get them a lot. His Dr said they were more common in young boys than most people think.

If he holds his pee too long, like just distracted playing, it could happen.

I would have him checked out for hydronephrosis, excess fluid in the kidneys which can lead to uti and kidney infections

My son did have a lot of uti growing up he ended up having kidney reflux make sure he drinks plenty of water

NO BATHS, plenty of water, cranberry juice isn’t strong enough use cranberry supplements like azo. If not circumcised you may need to help him clean himself thoroughly. If none of this helps I would make an appointment with a urologist.

He needs to see a urologist.

If he is uncircumcised…and not cleaning good…it could introduce bacteria.

My son had one last summer that turned into a bladder infection. He got antibiotics for the UTI but they weren’t strong enough and it moved into him bladder. He peed blood once and immediately went to the hospital and got stronger antibiotics for longer.
We believe it was from either being in a wet bathing suit too much and/or bath bombs/bubble bath.

Have him checked for diabetes, bladder infections are common due to high sugar feeding bacteria.

Boys getting UTIs is serious and can be dangerous. It means the tubes inside are too narrow, infection, or other medical issue that NEEDS to be addressed. Girls get them from any ol reason from wiping, getting hot, to simply bubble bathing. Boys do not. It’s rare. See his doctor IMMEDIATELY. Even if they find some silly little reason, best to tackle it now.

Lots of water ! Could be kidney infection or bladder infection

Could be due to yeast. Empty acidophilus capsules into his food, limit sweets and fermented foods. Acidophilus will bring better balance to his gut. Make sure he’s drinking enough plain water. Don’t buy flavored yogurt; add fresh fruit instead. Be sure he’s wiping his butt correctly.
