Are diaper genies really worth it?

Does diaper genie/ pail really keep the smell contained?

It doesn’t necessarily keep the smell contained. But I love mine

I love my diaper genie. I empty mine every week when it’s garbage time and I have no issues with smell.

I liked mine and never noticed a smell. I actually bought two, one for my place and one for my parents. Like everyone else says as long as you change the bags in a timely manner it’s great, but definitely wouldn’t call it a must have.

I had one with both kids but eventually just got a solid aluminum garbage can with lid and used that.

No. Ubbi is better. Had mine with 2 kids and :100: containment. I spray it out once a week with a neutralizer but it doesn’t stick like the genies.

I have an ubbi and it’s great. We only have to empty it like once a week and you can use any trash bag. I’ve never smelled a diaper at all once we’ve put it in there and it’s in our room right now since he’s still in a bassinet with us.

No just another thing to remember to clean

Yes. Just change it daily/every second day MAX. Keep a plug in next to it, and I also use dryer sheets at the bottom outside the bag  have had it for almost 5 months now and never had an issue with smell unless I left it for more than 2 days.
I also put poopy diapers in a dog bag BEFORE throwing it in the diaper genie lol

I literally used dog poop bags from dollarama for poopy diapers. Saved me some money.

I thought they were. Two babies at the same time, 4 kids.

You have to clean it & change it regularly.

I’ve never owned one and I have three kids under 5.
I don’t have any issues just throwing mine in the trash :woman_shrugging:t3:
We take our trash out probably every other day, every two days. I used to babysit for a lady that used one and god the smell :nauseated_face:

I loved mine.
When my kid was out of diapers I used it in the bathroom as a trash can

I have never had a issue with my reg trash can.

I never used one. Just a lidded trash can and took the bag out regularly

No so stinky just like a normal trash can

I never used one, just put dirty diapers in a small plastic bag and tie up then take the trash out nightly

No get a Walmart bag and put it in there then toss it in your trash

Yes. It does keep the smell contained, it does get real stinky when taking the bag out though, but I’d rather that than smelling it every time I open the trash.

Ubbi can use any trash bag

Not anymore worth it than generic brands. I’m not a fan. After 3 kids they are on my not totally necessary list.

I never bought it to control smell. For me it was easy to just throw it away, then at the end of the day empty into the outside bin.

Expensive and unnecessary. There are much cheaper cans that you can use scented trash bags in that are just as effective but without the recurring cost on the diaper genie bags.

Ubbi! Contains all the smells

Not really necessary. A good brand stainless steel trash can like Simplehuman or Kohler should be fine to keep the smell contained.

Absolutely not. They stink so bad

No waste of money it smells worse than the diaper itself lol you would be better off just using a regular trash can and taking them to an outside trash nightly

They were great my kids were babies!

I wouldn’t have a clue… I never had one :sob: despite wanting one. Now that my littles are grown, I’ve actually thought about getting one just for my cats’ when I clean their boxes

It was a waste for me… We just throw diapers in the garbage, but our trash is taken out nearly every day.

I recommend just throwing them away in your trash if you take your trash out daily. And getting a trash can that closes. It grosses me out to think those diapers just sit in there until you take it out. I would spend money on one of the bottle Keurig things that makes the bottles.

I didn’t use one. I used the scented poop bags out of the pet dept and threw them in my regular trash can.

It contains the smell but it stinks when you open it to change lol. We kept car fresheners in the bottom and a wall plug in or oil diffuser near it. Can’t smell much then, and change frequently

Put the diaper in a plastic grocery bag, knot it, put it in any trash can with a lid. Works about the same if we are honest. I got rid of mine bc it wasn’t worth the cost.

I just used the little doggy poop bags and threw it away :woman_shrugging: lol

I personally don’t think they’re a priority, definitely many other things that money could be spent on that are more logical and get more use out of

After the second baby I just bought bags and tossed them away individually.

I use dog poop bags. Roll them up, tie them shut and take them to the trash outside. Couldn’t see a reason to keep dirty diapers in the house. Gross. At night, I put them in a small garbage can and they go out first thing in the morning.
