As a single mother how do you manage everything?

How do you other single moms that work second shift with kids in school manage a decent sleep schedule? I work 3-12. Sleep from 1am-5am. Get kids ready/to school from 530-930. I’ll try to take a nap from like 11am-1pm but I feel like I waste my day when I do that. But if I don’t by the end of the school week I’m literally so tired I’m swaying. How do other single mommas on second shift do their sleep schedule? Looking for ideas bc I’m almost 40 and idk if I can honestly keep this going.

How old are the kids? Get them to help out. Definitely sleep as much as you can.

This is almost like my bestfriends routine. There honestly isn’t much of an option. Little to no sleep. Sleep when you can but miss your day. Or get a first shift job.

It’s hard to answer without all the information. I don’t understand why it takes from 5:30-9:30 to get your kids ready and to school so I’m assuming you have kids in middle/high school and elementary so the middle/high schoolers have to get up early and the elementary schoolers are later getting to school. If that’s the case, my best recommendation would be to give the older kids the responsibility of getting themselves up and ready. That would let you sleep longer. Or if it’s an option for your kids to ride the bus in the morning, have them do that so they leave a little earlier and you can nap a little earlier.

How many children & what ages? Why is it taking 4 hours to get them ready for school?

I couldn’t, personally I had to switch to first shift once my kids started school. I have them in daycare as well, so I take them to daycare at 7:30, go to work myself, daycare takes them to actual school. After school they go back to the daycare, I get off work and go pick them up. Second or third, I’ve tried both, it really just doesn’t work when your kids are on a first shift schedule.

Single mom who worked 2 jobs my sons entire up bringing. Would it be easier to work a first shift job?

I’ve got 2 daughters 7 and almost 6 and from wake up to just before we leave it takes me about 1 1/2 hours to get them up, fed, dressed, teeth and hair brushed. What time do they start school? Maybe nap for a shorter time instead.

I work nights from 5pm-6am sunday-wednesday.

I pre-make meals and make food easy to grab and go. This helps a lot, and I pre-set out their clothes for the week.

Thursdays after I get off at 6am I just don’t sleep so I can sleep at night and transition into a day schedule for the remainder of the week. If I need to I might take a nap or something towards the end of the week but for the most part it’s pretty manageable.

Hopefully once all the kids are going full time to school I can get a new work schedule.

I use to work shift works 2 weeks day and 2 weeks evening and I hated that I miss kids everyday stuff and I can’t put them in any afterschool activities except if it’s in weekends. I worked there for 1 year and used experience to find a job in place that is only during day

My job I’m on call m-f 24/7. I usually get called out between 5pm-8am. My 19yr works m-f 1015pm- 745am. My middle schooler get herself up, ready, wakes up the younger 2 & gets on the bus by 7am. My younger 2 get up, gets ready & get on the bus at 8am. Usually my oldest or I are home to make sure their on the bus.
Things I perp:
Food~ breakfast, Pop tarts, danish’s freezer has egg bites & pancake bites.
Snacks/lunch~ Pantry has three shelves preportion grab and go. Fridge has a shelf preportion to grab and go. I do alot of crockpot dinners, so everyone can eat when thier hungry
Clothes~ Sunday night we set out clothes for the week.
Sports~ I’ll practice clothes, uniforms and gear is set out on sunday
Housework~ each kids is responsible for thier room, each kids feeds/ cleans animals (we live on a farm) I do a load of laundry every morning, I do the dishes & pick up the house.
Im usually in bed by 11am wake up around 4pm the younger ones get off the bus. Unless there are games/ events on the weekends there is a no getting out of bed until 9am rule.

I’m sorry to say this but I couldn’t do it. I tried for several months but I can’t sleep during the day. It would take me hours before I could get to sleep. I’d have to be up early too. Good luck, maybe you can use to it.
