I have an active two year old and want to get him involved in something, but my husband thinks he is too young to get into anything organized.
My son started at 4 but itâs based on area and sport
If they can walk they can start kicking a football or even throw it x
2 is a great age to get them in to swimming lessons , and gymnastics !
I know a place thatâll stare as young as 3. Thatâs just the youngest kid Iâve seen attend. But thatâs wrestling
My boys started football at 8yrs old & 7 yrs old. Played all the wY through high school.
Itâll be based on the sports teams in the area. 4 is the earliest where we are for soccer and sometimes tee ball, but thatâs technically 5. Football and cheerleading at 7.
My daughter was playing soccer at this age itâs cute but definitely not anything pro lol
Two is extremely young for organized sports. Most kids start at 4. At 2 years old I would recommend a tumbling class
When my son was 2 we had him in swim lessons, Gymnastics and soccer. Check your park district.
Most YMCAs have sport clinics for littles
Where we live they can play soccer and baseball at 3
My son did what they called âbundles of tumbledâ a month shy of his 2nd birthday and loved it
My daughter started gymnastics at 2 and taekwondo just after she turned 4. I think suggestions of looking at your park district is great. Realistically, the best route is to probably just think of what activity you want him in and then google locations in your area
In my area t ball doesnât start until 3 or 4 depending on the team. Football is 6 or 7. Iâm not sure about soccer because my son never showed interest. But I would highly suggest t ball to start with! My son just finished his second season and he canât wait for fall season to start back up!
My daughter started tee ball at 2 and 15 years later she hung up her cleats and Iâm lost now
Whenever they show interest
Mine started playing soccer at 5
Our town has soccer for 2-5 year olds. She loves it!
My 2 year old loved gymnastics and swimming
I was in karate when I was 2 , didnât last long tho because apparently I wouldnât listen lol
My nephew started soccer really young as wrll
Tumble classes ! Mine starts in sept
I think it depends on the sport
Go hiking with him! Go to the beach! The Y also has swim classes for babies and up.
My son started @ 3 na half T Ball
In our area, kids can play soccer and TBall at 3, if a parent will coach or assistant coach.
Martial arts classes are also available for 3yr olds.
We are a sporting family, and all of my kids started TBall at 3, and soccer at 4.
I honestly think it depends on the sport.
Swimming and gymnastics can be done quite early. Martial arts usually around 4 or 5 instead.
My 2 year old does a ton of organized stuff and itâs great for him!! We do Kindermusik, swimming lessons, and gymnastics (he likes gymnastics the best!). All of these are good for social skills, motor skills, problem solving, rhythm, language development, learning to listen to a teacher, and being in a classroom setting, plus more!!
I just started doing dance and gymnastics with my daughter. I know hockey, soccer, t ball are normally an option starting at 3 in my area.
I know a lot of moms who do open gym etc for gymnastics as well for their kids and they really enjoy it.
We also did swimming lessons early onz
3 itâs usually when they can follow sequenced direction.
3 years old and he can join baseball and be in tiny tots, itâs a level below tball. Itâs the cutest thing ever! And parents are allowed on the field to help with the kids.
My kids both started gymnastics and wrestling at 2
I know some places have programs for kids around that age.
The club my daughter played soccer for had a program for 3 and 4 year olds.
There are programs for different ages for soccer that they can starting at three in nj idk what state you are in but they are technical programs that teach them how to play the sport and make it fun for them more then it being like theyâre actually playing the game if that makes any sense
Baseball in our area starts at two. They play whats called blastball. They hit the ball off a T and then run there little hearts out to first base and jump on the base making a horn go off and then run back to the bench to wait there turn. It teaches them the concept and gets them active and they make friends their own age.
I wouldnât do organize sports, but I would try to find him some sort of gymnastics or tumbling class.
Just depends on what your area offers. My city doesnât have much for under 4, other than swimming and gymnastics. But I would have my 2.5 yo in anything offered to get his energy out
My daughter was 2 when we started her in soccer
Our town did a mini sports class each week they did a new one and it was so fun and cute for them. I think they were 3-4.
Programs for toddlers for sports are more âfunâ, not so much âorganizedâ. They do games and fun things to teach technical moves. They donât use technical words, but again, teach young children in an age appropriate manner how to play a sport. My son started soccer at 3, baseball at 4. At that age, itâs not much of a commitment either. Itâs usually an hour one day a week. Iâm sure if you get in touch with some programs, youâll probably be able to sit in on a session and see if itâs something youâre interested in.
Also, if sports are something you want your child to pursue, the earlier you start, the better. My son is 10, and he has a natural ability in sports in general. He enjoys baseball and basketball especially and just gave up soccer as heâs also joining a travel league for baseball. Many kids on his teams do one on one training as well. Weâre in the south, so there are two baseball seasons, the big spring season and the more âpracticeâ fall season. Several kids also do travel ball on top of the regular league, as well as training sessions. Itâs a big commitment now, but my son enjoys it. Itâs overwhelming for kids that are new to the sport at this age, because of how serious many kids and parents take it, I see it happen every season. And to think, my son and his teammates are only 10. Something to think about as you consider sports.
I know in my city, pretty much everything is 4 and up. Occasionally theyâll take a child that is 3 if theyâre only a couple months from being 4 when the program starts.
I think when I was 3 my dad put me in baseball (yes Iâm a female idk how he did it but he did lol) then the next year I was in softball and continued all the way up to middle school
I started ice hockey at 3
Depends on where you live really wheee Iâm at peewee doesnât start until 4
We started gymnastics at 18 months, itâs not organized so it was perfect. At 3 we started swimming lessons and 3.5 we started soccer!
Truth be told. From my experience as a father I have learned that starting young kids in sports is a good experience but starting them too early could potentially burn them out of a sport
Let the child make their sports decision
Tumbling is a great âsportâ for toddlers. Itâs like the toddler version of gymnastics
You can definitely put toddlers in sports. At that age theyâre not really playing a sport theyâre learning skills like running, jumping, throwing, swimming. Itâs great for their motor skills and their coordination. Plus they socialize and learn to follow directions. I think itâs wonderful. Just donât put your kid in only one thing and over train in that thing and for us more on the fun and the skills learned rather than the competition.
See what your local options are. If thereâs something offered that you think theyâd like I donât see why not. Itâs funny to watch when they donât know what theyâre doing. I love it lol. I definitely wouldnât spend too much though because you never know how theyâll react until theyâre there.
Swim lessions start early, tumbling usually starts at 2, and most prek sports start at 3!! Our 3 year old did tball this year!!
T ball starts at about 4 i think.
We started our two older boys around 4 & younger one at 5
I donât think you can start a child in sports too young. The really important thing is that itâs something they really enjoy. Not something that you really want them to enjoy.
My son started soccer at 2. Happy Feet or Soccer Shots
My four year old did swimming, hockey, gymnastics, tennis & BMX. Loved them all.
Why do parents want to take the joy of being a child away from. Let him .be a child not. Some trained animal
4âŚas long as they are potty trained and can listen to others.
My 2 year old did soccer and swim lessons.
My son started tee ball at 3, both my daughters gymnastics at 2. Great way to burn up extra energy lol
I feel about 4 is when they start actually understand the sport or activities. Younger is just fun play time to them
My daughter did mommy and me gymnastics at 18 months,
You could also try soccer shots
I wouldnât commit to any Rex league at that age but I grew up with sports so I am passionate about my kids doing sports. It is so good for them
I would say about 4 or 5. If too young attention span not there and they wonât listen. The coach ends up as baby sitter and parents upset because little one not listening ( canât help it).
Most things like Tball start at 3. Might be based on birthday month for Little League. But gymnastics at that age is fun. It improves coordination and listening and following institutions. Itâs not âgymnastics â really. But lots of fun things that build confidence. My grandchildren did it. They jumped, climbed and stretched. Learned to roll and balance on one leg and even walk on a very low beam
Sports instructors will usually advise the appropriate age range for various sports.
For kids of that age, instructors also usually know attention spans and abilities, and so would tailor the sports and activities to suit.
Try martial arts. Some dojos will take children that young
CheckBaby yoga, when my kids we going home crazy, Iâd take them for a walk, because of being little, we make it to the end of the block, they took forever because we touched rocks, looked at plants, flowers, birds then I take them home and nap them for my personal resting
Depends whats available in your area. Usually they have like tball for tots etc
I agree with your husband. Let your child learn with imagination and having fun.
Mine started soccer at 3 at our local AYSO
My son is 2 at the end of next month and is starting soccer next weekendđ it was the only sport we could find that have teams for 2 year olds
4 is a good age⌠anything before that is not organized at all. Maybe take him to places like dojo boom/defy/ski high (if u have one where u live) weekly so he can gain a little coordination running and jumping.
4 in my county my 2 year old looks like hes 4 and all his brothers coaches keep asking when I will put him on the team but hes to young to understand the rules and concepts so he will wait
My daughter did a tumbling/gymnastics mommy and me class that started at walking. My son started sports at 3. His first was a city league Tball, but the county leagues (which are more organized) didnât start till 4, so we switched after that first season. He also started soccer right after he turned 4. He was also very active and needed an outlet for his energy. He is now 7 and fixing to start travel ball next month
Try local YMCA. Start swimming lessons. They may also have soccer or t ball. Also check and see if there is gymnastics in your area, they may have a tumbling class
Swim, soccer, & gymnastics are all things I had my son involved with before the age of 3. It was more for socialization & room to run around with other kids than actually learning a sport. That started closer to 3.5 yrs
I have an almost 2 year old. I put him in tumbling/dance. For me its something to get him to socialize.
Swimming is always a good start. My son started âplayingâ tot hockey at 3, now heâs almost 6 and actively races dirt bikes. Getting them involved in something with other kids is great for them!
Swimming is always good!! I started my little guy at 6 months!! Heâs going to be 3 in a couple weeks and can swim! Most sports donât start until age 3 around here but I have him signed up for tap dance lessons in September and skating lessons in November
I tried karate but that didnât work out at 2, he was more of a distraction to other students. I did swim mostly and a ton of kids gyms. My friend just found a soccer team for her 2 year old. Tumbling and gymnastics classes would be fun too!
Our sons started around 3/4. They do have âtoddler timeâ soccer but do not at all expect it to be the least bit organized even with the 3/4 starting age it was kind of a nightmare!
Usually soccer is around 3. T ball in our area is about 5 years old.
Most organizations do not start sports with kids until 4-5 bc of insurance
My son is 19 months and weâve been doing toddler gymnastics for a few months now maybe look for something like that in your area
Toddler tumbling classes
We started soccer at 2 1/2 and we did swim lessons at 2
Iâve seen football for 2yrs and up where I live.
They can start at 2. Depends on what youâd like them to try.
In NJ they have soccer for 18-36 months Olds. Itâs games and following directions. My 2 year old grandson just started
My faughter started dance at 3, basketball and softball at 5. NMy son started t-ball at 4 and baseball at 5. He started hockey at 6. Most of the kids he played with the first year were only 4. With that said the attention span at 2 or 3 is not really there yet.
Look at soccer shots!
4 in my city in Georgia!
Little kickers do football from 18 months
I would go with swimming lessons. First it could save their life and second they arenât out in the heat playing some sport that is not really going to get them anywhere in their adult life
Most sports have an age limit when they can start. I think the youngest here is soccer at age 4, I believe. Could look into skating lessons too. They all will tell what the age is.
