How early is too early for a toddler bed? My little girl will be 2 and we’ve switched her to a toddler bed. She does great at night but will not take a nap. What can I do?
My youngest (now 2) has been sleeping on a big girl bed for almost a year. We decided to skip the toddler bed and just have a twin mattress on the floor for now. If she naps, it’s in the car or on the couch
We don’t do nap time but lay down time. Everyone in my house has to go to their room and rest for about an hour a day. Me included. And there is no right age to switch to a toddler bed. We did it when our crib was as low as it could go and our kids weee climbing out.
We switched our daughter at 2.5 but it could’ve been earlier lol
Also, we don’t force her to sleep during nap time. We remind her that it’s quiet time and she should get rest so she can have energy to play later. Then we put up the gate and let her play with toys in her room. She puts herself to bed. Or not. Either way, she takes qt
I Switched my son at 18 months, but it was because he was climbing out of his crib and I didn’t want him to get hurt
We had two issues baby could get up easy and out of bed with out use noticing “so we got a pressure alarm” when baby got up alarm sounded
Second was the little half rail kids kept getting hurt and stuck on it in their sleep we took it off one was a close call not to many blankets still they get caught in them and sleep with blanket over their head ect

my son was in a toddler bed before two because i needed the crib for his baby sister. he still napped every day through 3.5 years old, and sometimes napped just because his sister was too.
Kids stop naps at various ages. If she absolutely needs a nap, lay with her, in the floor. Make it calm. Read a book, brush her hair, something quiet. I used a calendar. For every 3 days my daughter napped or laid quietly for 30mins, she could pick a nail polish color. Hands or feet. It worked off and on for a year. By age 3-3.5 she just didn’t nap very often.
Let her nap on the sofa instead
Stop giving her naps if she doesn’t want them. I tried to force it until I couldn’t anymore… always a sad realization when they’re done napping lol
My kids stopped napping at age 2 regardless of what bed it was. Made bedtime easier though.
It was hard for me as a mom because I coslept with my son & then my daughter as well. She was born 1yr & 2wks after my son. They moved to their own room at 2 & 3, sharing bunk beds. It worked. My kids father and I seperated and my kids that are now 5 & 6 have their own rooms at my house. At their dads, they don’t have a room at all. They have adjusted and love their own space here. It takes time momma, it was hard on me to let them sleep alone. As far as nap time, we cut that out early on. If my kids nap during the day, they will give me a hard time when it’s bed time.
2-4. My middle child switched at 15 months because little brother was coming. However, my oldest usually slept with her which made the transition easier. Little brother to this day will not stay in his own bed. He always. Climbs in bed with us. My oldest daughter slept in her crib from the moment she came home from the hospital. If we stayed at someone’s house, she slept in a play pen with padding at the bottom from 1.5-2 years old. Then got a toddler bed. She was always pretty independent with sleeping so she could have gotten a toddler bed before 2. (I did co-sleep with the younger two because they were breastfed though.)
All kids are different so you really gotta just feel it out.
Editing to add: my oldest will still nap at age 9. My other two stopped at age 4 and refuse to nap. Not much you can do about. maybe just enforce a dedicated time for quiet time every day.
Once bubs is to big for her cot
Re:naps. One child gave them up early, the other 2 were easy. When grandchildren visited, we each got a book to lie down with, no talking. I would put mine down after a few minutes to snooze, and they would do it too, and take a good nap!
My son was in a floor bed by 11 months🤷♀️ went from co-sleeping to floor bed. Never slept in a crib. Some days he naps and some days he doesnt. Its entirely up to him. If he doesnt nap he goes to bed at 730-8pm. If he does nap he goes to bed 9-930pm
There were days when my then 2.5 yr old would skip nap. Then she’d pass out for the night at 6pm.
Both of mine stopped napping at two.
