We will be doing a road trip before school from Wisconsin to Gatlinburg, TN, anyone know some cool places to stop on the way home? We will be stopping in Indianapolis on the way there and going to the children’s museum but would also like to break up the ride on the way back. I thought about Louisville as it’s close to a half way point but didn’t really see anything there that interested me (or if anyone knows anything to do there that would be helpful as well.) It will be my husband and I and then 4 kids ages 16, 12, 11 and 7. They are into everything from nature to sports and anything in between. Thank you so much!
Hi! I live about 10 min from Louisville on the Indiana side. Louisville has a great zoo! If you stop there make it a day trip and don’t go out at night with the kiddos. It can be pretty sketchy down town there after dark. We also have KY Kingdom, a great amusement park. The Science museum is pretty nice also.
Just south of Louisville in Clermont Kentucky is Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest they have 3 of Thomas Dambo giants as well as lots of hiking trails, nature scape playground and a cafe that serves foods prepared with produce grown on site. Bardstown has My old Kentucky home, a dinner train as well as a civil war museum/village. Not far off path is new Haven with KY railway museum and train ride. Louisville has the Louisville slugger bats museum/factory tours, Kentucky science center and Churchill downs. Head east a little to Lexington and visit the Kentucky horse park or keenland (horse) race track.
Louisville has the Louisville slugger museum. If driving through on a weekend, you could pop over to santa claus indiana and go to holiday world/splashing safari.
