Can google maps be wrong about someone location?

Can google maps be wrong when it comes to places you haven’t been to? For example, I saw a notification on my boyfriend’s phone saying 20 minutes to some hotel he’s work is about 6 min away from that hotel!! Is it possible that he’s never been there, but because he works close to it picked it up? I’m trying to stay positive here and don’t want to mention anything to him and start a fight unless I know for sure please ladies no rude comments any info would be appreciated.

I’ve had my phone say weird stuff like that before but not like a specific landmark like a hotel. But more of a street address or vicinity to my daughters school

Definitely possible mine says that I am in one of three locations throughout the day even though I’ve been sitting at my house all day the three locations are just close to my house

Yes they can be inaccurate

Maybe they park there and car pool

It can pick up anything your close to. Mines picked up a hotel that shares the same parking lot as one of my favorite restaurants while I was in the restaurant with my husband. Maybe it picked it up bc of a stop sign or stop light?

I’ve never had that issue. I always look at my map history and its always correct

Last night a location popped up on my phone saying I recently visited a park I had never been to, it is a couple blocks away from where I pick my daughter up from work

Yes, even though with the technology that we have today and how accurate it can be at times, when you do the research GPS can be off slightly from where a person actually is.

It may be an ad. I use Waze and it will say “6 minutes to x restaurant, go now?” As an ad to drive traffic there. Places I’ve never been or even heard of pop up like that for me.

Yes, my phone constantly puts me 15 mins away at a Mexican restaurant while I’m sitting in my damn house. Lol. Also tell me I’m at the grocery store instead of my actual work which is 3 blocks away.

My husband was sitting next to me and his gps said he was 3 hours away.

Google will pick up locations and ask how the visit was or whatever if youre just stopped at the light

It could. He could have stopped for food next door to it, or was at a red light next to it…it isnt 100%

I have an iPhone but sometimes my phone will say something like 5 mins to home or traffic is light to a certain place. It just seems to say it at random times but it’s always places that I’ve been to before. But I’m sure it’s possible it could be wrong.

Mine always shows me random locations saying I’m “30 minutes from home” but the address is blocks away from where I live when I’m out of town

My husband is a guru with Google. Our phones are the pixels. He said it most definitely can. His picks up the shopping center by our house even when he hasn’t gone there. Nothing to worry about girl.

Honey if you need to keep that close of tabs on him, your relationship is doomed. Give it up now.

Just ask him. Don’t be that psycho person

Yes! I have that happen all the time. Even with just driving by.

My husbands said that he was at a bar, on the coast of Louisiana, when he was actually 50 miles offshore, working on a rig in the ocean.

Mine told me I was in New York once and I live in TN so it does happen lol

The fact that you’re checking his location says a lot so go with your gut. Shit I’d show up at said hotel and see if he’s there.

It’s only accurate within a few miles of where you actually were. That’s why sometimes it asks you to clarify where you were

Ask him and also why GPS tracker on him? That seems strange to me…I only do that for my kids if they are going somewhere…lol

Yes ! It does pick up locations just because you are close by sometimes

Yes it can be wrong.

"Google bases it’s gos based on recommendations, your proximity, and how popular the place is "
From my husband.

Yes it happens. I get on my bf ass all the time. :joy::joy::joy:

Mine regularly says I’m at the church by my house which I most definitely never am lol :joy:

I live in Carthage and my google always tells me I’m in Dallas which is 150-200 miles away from me :woman_shrugging:

Google will send me notifications asking how my experience was at “such and such” when I was actually somewhere else 1 block over.

Yes . it did that with my man . he was near a place but not at it. But he has his location on and it recognized the closest place to him. It also says my aunt is like 20 mins from where shes actually at on Facebook check in . its a pain in the ass

Yes I get notifications asking how was this or that place and have never been there but went past it or near it.

We were in Costa Rica a couple weeks ago. We went to bed together. He always falls asleep first. I woke up first and there was a notification from Google asking him to rate the resort a few miles away. We didn’t even have a rental car, as we were at an all inclusive resort. No need to leave. Learned first hand that Google can be wrong. Never had any reason to give it any thought before that though.

**Side note… there’s some really bitchy judgmental people in this group. No need to attack the poor girl. She just asked a question. Geez

Yws he could have driven past it etc. Mine ask me all the time to review places I’ve been to when all I’ve done is driven past.

If you’re really that worried go to his job and say hi to him and hug him just say I wanted to surprise you and if he isn’t there then go check the hotel

Bring him a coffee or energy drink he likes as a cover he’ll never suspect any other reason for you showing up

Google tells me I’ve been to places that I haven’t even seen before so I wouldn’t base your suspicions on Googles accuracy

I have been asked to rate places that I have never been to because I was close to its location. It could be incorrect, however something is making you question if it is or not, maybe a feeling.

It definitely can do. I used to use it on the days my husband would try to suprise me. He traveled for work so he would come home on Fridays

Yeah if it’s close usually it does stay a bit off. Like it’ll say my hubs is across the street from where he really is but never too much off

Yes my boyfriends location says he’s two blocks from his work all the time

Bc I text and ask for him to send his location

Sometimes it drops where you have been and can get stuck on a place you drove by for a while, so it is possible. Also, are you tracking his whereabouts?

Are u talking about the ‘check-in’ on Facebook? If I go to mine now to check in - it gives me about 20 options. The closest being 500m away- the furtherest being 18km away!! Some I’ve been to, others I never have except driving past!!

It just asked me if I had been in a school I walkedby.

Yes, Google maps can be wrong…I have went thru this crap as well…I actually went with him to baton rouge and Google location said we were elsewhere…saved him an ass whoopin lol

When I sit in my office at work…the GPS thing on my phone says I am 2 miles away from where I am actually sitting… I would need more information than that

Yes cause my sons school is next to a park and his phone will say hes at the park

Yes it can. I have gotten into it with my husband over the same thing. It would show him somewhere else so I just asked and he would video chat me and show me he was actually at work. So yes it can be. Even my google maps will show me at places/ houses I’ve never been.

We have Life360 and it’s very accurate and also tells the route in which they drove and their top speed lol. Mine has me, my neighbor, and my boyfriend. The reason is my neighbor works about 2 to 3 hours away and drives nonstop in case something happens, I can let his dad know where he is (his dad lives in front of me). My boyfriend works 13 to 14 hour days and works about 40 mins away. He has his days of exhaustion. So, we have it for our peace of mind purpose.

Mine actually did that today my maps predicted I was going to Carl’s Jr. but where I was headed was in the vicinity of the Carl’s Jr.

I had some lady come into my work and insist her daughter was there (she wasn’t). She got irate and showed me that Google said her location was there but I convinced her to just call her daughter and she was at a place 2+ blocks away.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense. You saw a notification telling him it was 20 minutes to get to a hotel? And you’re wondering if this could be wrong? Unless he’s using maps to find his way to work I would say it’s very accurate and you have a problem to deal with.

If it automatically pops up, it’s bc he frequently visits that place. When I start my car, my phone gps tells me my expected drove time to the house…or to my work…my number two most traveled places.

It’s wrong all the time

Yes it can bounce several miles back and forth, not that uncommon.

Mine pops up all the time asking me to rate this or that place just because I either drove past it or was close enough to it in Google world for them to think I was. Google maps are great and can be right about a lot of things but its wrong a lot too. Plus some places pay to get picked up faster because we see the name and then down the road can be like I want to try that place.

Yes it’s possible every now and then mine tells my husband I’m in Japan when I’m at home in Oregon we laugh about it

Yes. Google maps can be certainly wrong. I get notifications ask me to rate my visit to a business adjacent or down the road from where I was all the time. The app also displays incorrect address for our house. It sends people to the middle of an alfalfa field. :joy::joy: We have to use our neighbor’s address when giving directions to people.

Google can tell me im dying if i have just a generic flu.
So i would say yes it can be wrong.

Yes! My Google maps use to say i was at a house around the corner all the time when i was actually home.

Yep it asked me before if i wanted to add to my timeline nd I never went there just was at a stop light by it

Mines normally 26.7 miles off.

Yes! I notice if youve been to places and drive by it’ll pin the location to that place too! I notice mostly bc when we’re both in the car and i pull up my map for directions, it’ll say he’s somewhere else when he’s sitting right next to me

Yes it can . I have passed close by a place and they would ask me , How did you like your visit to that place !

It is definitely possible that it is wrong. Don’t freak out. I’ve seen mine say that I was some place that I just drove by.

Mine shows where my car is parked. I know good and well my car is the under the carport but sometimes it will show it still in town somewhere. Hell it’s even showed me in a completely different state!

Yes mine does that all the time

Absolutely google maps can be wrong. When I give people my address it takes them to a field full of cattle lol

Yes it’s entirely possible. I’ve had a notification that my husband is in the middle of a river that he wasn’t working far from and I asked him ‘why does it say you’re in the middle of a river?’ He jokingly sent back BECAUSE I CAN SWIM but then sent me a picture of where he was working showing me he could see the river
Sometimes even when he’s working in the same spot all day it jumps back and forth locations around him

Not for 20 mins Hun he was there

I say follow your instinct. It’s usually spot-on. I personally don’t feel the need to check on locations. You should trust your partner.

Absolutely! Mine has my son leaving school in the middle of the day ALL THE DARN TIME!

My Facebook says I am in California lol but I am in Alaska so yes

yes and depending on which tower it’s bouncing off of depends on where exactly it says that you are there’s times that my husband will be at work out in three points on the south side of the freeway and actually be working up to a couple miles away but that’s the nearest tower

Yes. Once a taxi used it and drived me to 10km off the correct adress.

The day I start checking up on my partners location is the day my relationship is dying.

That’s funny you asked. My fiance works 15 mins away from home but a few years ago it said he was in Michigan, then an hour later it said he was back in town. It takes longer than an hour to get from Michigan back to where he works. 🤷

If you feel the need to track his location I would say there is already problems.

Yes happens all the time to me. When I got to my moms my map automatically shows that I’m going to a barber shop because my mom lives close to one

Yes. Ours says we live inside the store across the street

We can say it was wrong.

I don’t know about that far. But my work is close to a liquor store so my phone assumes that I’m at a liquor store for 8 hours a day.

That happens to me a lot. My gps on my phone used to think I lived at the autozone that was 10 minutes from my house lol

It’s wrong sometimes. It would say rate Walmart, just because I drove by it.

Yep all the time mine is asking me if a restaurant or hotel stay went good…

If you need to be following his locations like this you don’t need to be with him (or he doesn’t need to be with you).

Just ask him & see what he says🤷‍♀️… Don’t get all upset just yet…just calmly be like, so hey my Google maps is messed up…is yours? Lol…or something like that…And go from there. Could be nothing. Goodluck girl

My heart goes out to you.
It’s hard when you have trust issues, and as a person who has a hard time trusting anything, the whole “A relationship without trust won’t last” thing seems so unfair to always hear.
Sometimes just seeing how wonderful they do by you, when you’re not there, works wonders on your mental health and healing process.
So I hope it’s just a weird coincidence.

Google maps is always wrong about locations. No offense though but if you already have doubts about your partner, trust issues and such, then it’s time to leave. Doesn’t sound like the relationship is even that healthy

When I’m at home mine as well as my husbands shows us like 10 minutes from our house…

Yes it can be wrong mine always says I’m at hip hop class when in fact I’m down the street getting tacos.:unamused:
