Can having an IUD and covid cause issues?

So I currently have Covid and it’s my first time having it. I know it can cause issues with your cycle, but I have an IUD. I haven’t had a real cycle in about a year and just occasional spotting. But yesterday I started bleeding pretty heavily, no pain or cramps. Just wondering if anyone with an IUD has had this issue and can offer any advice.

I personally went through this. I had bad periods after having my kids and after my IUD was inserted it took about a year to simmer down to a slight period, no cramps. Since I had covid in January, I have had regular heavy periods with cramping and headaches. It’s like starting all over again. I hope you have better luck!

Yes I had covid in January I have morena now I have periods again it’s true

I started getting the worst periods after COVID, no iud tho

Covid can Jack up cycle- as can the Maxine

There’s been studies done and it has been said that having Covid has changed some womens cycles.

Interesting.
My daughter has Kyleena and hadn’t had her period for a year. She had covid a few months ago and is now menstruating

Has absolutely nothing to do with COVID. Talk to your Dr.

Go see a Dr. These type of posts shouldn’t even be approved.

I’m not on any birth control but I have heard it does. The vaccine made my cycles shorter and less heavy.

Funny how ppl are still trying to say covid is not the issue

No BC and I’m 42 but my cycles have been wayyyy worse since Covid. My OBGYN said to expect it. Apparently it will resolve after awhile but I had Covid in January and they’re just beginning to go back to “normal”. The worst PMS!! I did have 3 vaccine doses fyi.

If you’re coughing a lot and contracting the area it could cause a puncture. I would call and get it checked. I had my iud poke a hole through my uterus and they had to do surgery to go and find it, it was under my rib…

I never had stomach cramps before till I was on that IUD!

If yall have covid and get on antibiotics it will cancel out any birthcontrol

No IUD but my cycle started early and was incredibly heavy when I had covid.

I’ve had mirena for 12 years now with no periods. I had Covid about 2 months ago and it didn’t change anything. That being said, every person is different and if she is concerned she should talk to her OB.

I can’t answer your question, but I can vouch for how well they work. My wife had one (yeah this is a Dude), plus had her tubes tide and low and behold she ended up pregnant with identical twin boys We call them “emaculant deception”. You see we had no idea she was pregnant, she was four and a half months along when we found out. She was having regular monthly cycles and all, it was 100% a good deal, So good luck to you.

Yes. I got the vaccine and everything went wonky. Heavy periods came back. Then I got covid after the symptoms of the vaccine began to wear off and it all started again. I went in my washroom and fished for the string. I pulled it out. My period started a few days later and it was HEAVY. Leaked 3 times on the first night. Then it all calmed down after that.
They definitely didn’t do research on how COVID or the vaccine would react to and IUD.

If ur sick with an illness it messes with ur cycle

I know mine has been super irregular since I had the vaccines but it did get significantly lighter, but it does last longer now. I do have the mirena as well.

I have the mirena iud and have had covid once, no vaccine, and it didn’t mess with mine at all.

I’ve never heard of covid messing with a woman’s cycle. That being said if you are all the sudden bleeding heavily get to your doctor ASAP. If I were you I’d take the IUD out, they’re not safe.

When I was bleeding heavy on mine went in to find out it was lost and they had to find and remove it

I didn’t have cramps or pain but never got it again

I’ve had mirena for like 3 years, no periods whatsoever, but I got covid back in January and I’ve had regular cycles since then, I honestly had no idea covid affected your cycle :open_mouth:

You should talk to your OBGYNs office on whether or not you need to be seen. Any change that is abrupt like that could indicate an issue.

I’ve got the Paraguard, non hormonal IUD. Every 3 years my periods become SO heavy.

I’m not sure but you should go to a doctor. A few years ago a week after my period I had extremely heavy bleeding, to the point I almost needed a blood transfusion. The doctors said it was called dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Maybe that?

I don’t think it has anything to do with covid and most likely the issue is your birth control.

We aren’t doctors, I’m sure of you call your doctor he’ll be able to tell you

I don’t think anyone here would be able to tell you if having covid correlates with your heavy period and IUD. Since it’s something out of the norm for you, I’d say an appointment with your obgyn is in order. Not saying this to scare you, it’s just my experience; but I had to have 2 IUDs surgically removed because one had traveled into my abdomen and the other had begun to imbed into my uterus lining. The third IUD I had was the copper IUD and that’s how I found out I was allergic to copper. I ended up getting the paraguard implant and had no complications with it for 5 years until I had a tubal ligation.

Yes it can and the vaccine if you are vaccinated can also cause problems. I have and a few of my friends who have been vaccinated and also who have had Covid have had their cycles disrupted in some ways.

Call your doctor’s office or medical provider to get checked out

I would contact your doctors office and ask to speak to your doctor or a nurse that is working to see if it’s a cause for concern and if you should be checked once your covid is gone (since your doctor might not see you as you currently have covid especially if it’s also an OB office)

I’ve had an IUD for 6 years. I have the Mirena with higher hormones. I had covid and I still haven’t gotten a period in 5 years. Breakthrough spotting is normal with some of the lower hormone IUDs, like the Kyleena for example. Hope that helps.

I would suggest talking to your doctor. I could be your body not agreeing with iud anymore. People change birth controls all the time if there’s a conflict out of no where

Always ask a doctor. I have talked to my doctor in the past. About covid & women’s health. As well as the vaccine and women’s health. My doctor educated me that covid vaccinated or not vaccinated HAS 0 affect to women’s health. Absolutely no connection there.

I’ve never had an iud and have always had regulars periods. I had covid in December and my period started two weeks early and was way heavier then it normally is
