Can we talk about how unfair youth sports is?

Can we talk youth sports and how unfair it is! If you don’t have the right last name or you don’t know someone forget about fairness. I truly feel at the youth level it should be about learning, fairness and teamwork- not the same kids playing and the others only getting a few plays. It’s so frustrating. Thanks for letting me vent.

Yep, what’s sadder is when your child keeps saying it’s ok mum I didn’t really want to try it anyway I wouldn’t be as good as (one of the athletic kids name) anyway, I didn’t really want to try it anyway

It gets worse as they get older

Depending on age, I agree.

So volunteer to coach a fun for all team! My daughter did this, but trained all the girls well. Eventually one of her teams even won the district championship in spite of this!

It’s all in finding the right coach, not someone who is living out their fantasy of being a professional sports team owner or reliving their previous “glory days” or a win-at-all-costs type. If it’s too much for you alone, go in with friends or acquaintances with a similar style to team coach a sports team.

Deal with this with my oldest. He also didn’t start sports at a super young age like everyone else.

My son did travel team instead of the school team through elementary. Didn’t have that issue.

Games aren’t about being fair. It’s about playing the game. Some kids can play others need more practice. Not every kid can play.

Yep! When i was in highschool i tried out for cheerleading in a small town. I only went to that school my last 2 years of high school. I did well and even got complimented a lot. But since I didnt have a good last name there, i wasn’t chosen.

So start your own team.

In California we have completive leagues and community leagues. My niece is probably near the bottom but gets to play a lot. Maybe check around your area see what your options are.

Sounds like someones kid is not as good at sports as u may think/or want them to be.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Put him in dance or something if you’re going to whine like a child. Face it, ur kid just might really suck!!

Look at all the moms of kids that treasure participation trophies :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: if your kid sucks, either get more practice or find something else. It’s sports. It’s competition. Ur not always going to be the best or play as much as the kid that is actually good!! The goal is to win. You guys are hilarious

I sort of agree. But I also disagree at the same time. If your kids sucks then your kids sucks. Not to say your child sucks. Because obviously I don’t know. The point of sports is competition. So they let their best players play. Coming from a tackle football mother of 8 years. You kind of learn to suck it up and deal with it. And my kids learned at an early age that they have to do their best in order to keep their spots. So they do their best.

Time to look for another program - or voice your concerns to the people who run the program- ask to see the programs mission statement, who funds these programs, rules and regulations of the program

It really shouldn’t matter, all the kids get a trophy anyway
