Can you vape while breastfeeding?

I am by no means a medical expert or a lactation specialist, but I do have 10 years in the vape industry so I will give you my 2 cents. Vape juice is essentially made up of 4 ingredients. Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, food grade flavoring, and nicotine. The first 2 Ingredients are stabilizers and used in food, vitamins, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical medicines. The 3rd ingredient speaks for itself. The only thing questionable is the nicotine. I never breast fed my kiddos and vaping wasn’t around that long ago but it does make sense that the baby would get traces of nicotine from you. If you absolutely need nicotine, I would go with a 3nic, which is the lowest and mildest strength possible. Id agree with others and say pump and dump if you jeed the nicotine. Next option is no nicotine at all and you may be fine with that if it’s the sensation of “smoking” you are mainly looking for. With no nicotine i would say its safe to breast feed. Don’t let anyone mom shame you about your choices. I smoked during both my pregnancies. Yup, I said what I said. Generation after generation of smokers in my family so it wasnt frowned upon back then. Was it smart? Probably not. You are asking and there is no such thing as a stupid question. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. While vaping isn’t considered 100% it is way better then smoking. At least you know what’s going in your body with vape.

Anything you eat or drink goes into your blood stream and passes into your breast milk. I think inhalants do too. I wouldn’t vape until you check with your doctor.

Less than 3% goes to your baby and nicotine goes out of your system so fast. Just do it right after.

I’ve heard of doctors telling people not to quit smoking even when pregnant because the withdrawal symptoms would stress the body out too much. I would cut back. But I’m also not a smoker and I dont know how hard it would be for you to do so. Good luck either way.

I would get nicorette gum. Vapes still give off second hand. I started smoking a month after my son was born, and if I could go back I’d chose gum. It’s inexpensive at Costco

Before every judges me but I smoke when I was pregnant, while I was breastfeeding too. My daughter is fine, she’s still healthy. But while those times I did cut down alot. But while smoking when you are breastfeeding make sure you wash your hands after you smoke. That’s what I still do my daughter is 4 yrs old. I smoke outside as well.

Don’t pump and dump. Just let it exit your breast milk it is a waste and very unnecessary to pump and dump. breast milk is like the bloodstream, when you drink/smoke etc it’s filtered out after so long.

Unlike during pregnancy, a nursing woman who smokes occasionally can time breastfeeding in relation to smoking, because nicotine is not stored in breast milk and levels parallel those found in maternal plasma, peaking ~30 to 60 minutes after the cessation of smoking and decreasing thereafter and with drinking…

Expressing or pumping milk after drinking alcohol, and then discarding it (“pumping and dumping”), does NOT reduce the amount of alcohol present in the mother’s milk more quickly. As the mother’s alcohol blood level falls over time, the level of alcohol in her breast milk will also decrease.

Same as smoking. Not preferred

Bro some of these comments lol some of you are just shameless, and downright carelessly spreading misinformation that is not supported in the medical community. Please do not listen to some of these clowns and ask a doctor.

The way it was put to me is that nicotine, like alcohol takes 2 hours to basically no longer be in your breast milk. They told me that if I had to smoke to do so directly after a feeding and wait 2 hours to feed again

What’s with the angry reacts? It’s a question. If you dont think she should vape at all, just say so. No need to be “angry” at this question.

Yes if it has :leaves: in it!!

If you have to look up how much goes into your milk just so that you don’t put much nicotine into the milk. Also do heavy metal detoxes so that you get the extra substances out of your body as much as possible.

You shouldn’t vape period. Very very unhealthy

Nicotine-free vapes exist. Stick to those if you must

Im a smoker , after baby I stRted back. My dr said absolutely no on the vape. He said they r too new to know the damage they will do to breast milk. He said smoke a reg cig if u can’t not go without , then pump and dump. U so have to wait in btwn feedings I think it’s 45 min after u smoke. My kid is 2 and that’s what it said when I had him. Pump and dump just like w alcohol.
