I need ideas for cheap homemade Halloween costumes. It’s got to be from a storybook character. Not much money to spend and something pretty simple. It’s for my 6 year old to wear to school on Halloween.

Good to your local goodwill, blue Jeans yellow top with a red ponytail or red bow, instantly snowy white lol let her hold a pet animal also to signify snow whites love of animals
Do “a blessing In disguise” write blessing across front of a shirt (or put it on tape if preferred) and provide them with a hat, glasses etc. for the “disguise”. My daughter did this one year and it was a huge hit. Simple and quick
If it for a girl do Fancy Nancy! Just put on frilly clothes and a tutu and costume jewelry! I did that for my daughter! We also did if you give a mouse a cookie and did over alls, a I made mouse ears and a cookie with cardboard

You can make a full mermaid costume from there guaranteed. They have a ton of stuff though, I would suggest going to your store and just using your imagination with what they have
Try a dollar store. They usually have like cat ears an tail sets for like 5 then dress in all black
My kids did a trunk or treat as a UPS driver and a package… I printed the UPS logo, colored it with a marker and glued it to her shirt and hat… Huge hit, they got so many compliments
“The girl with the green ribbon.” All she would need is a green ribbon to tie around her neck.

Brain storm what you have and possible transformation red hoodie= Little red Riding Hood
White T-shirt and white leggings= dalmatian puppy or you could check thrift stores
Go to goodwill, they have awesome costumes for good prices , that’s what I used to do

White sheet. Cut out eyes and arm holes. Boom a ghost. Toilet paper wrapped around a white outfit. A mummy. Overalls yellow shirt and some goggles a minion.
Thrift stores in our area are pretty decent prices and you can find costumes for around 5 to 10 bucks .
I just got a yellow tshirt and some felt at Michael’s. So simple!

Throw a sheet over them and call them Casper?
Cinderella: blue dress or “rags” (dress with apron).
Belle: yellow dress and a book
Red riding hood: red dress and a basket
Princess and the pea: dress and a can of peas 
Madeline: blue dress and a hat
Pippi Longstocking: any dress and braided pig tails
Harry Potter characters: outfit colored for house (ie green for slytherin) and a “wand” (chop stick will work)

you just need a piece of cardboard, white paint, and a black marker. Secure with a headband.

We did Charlotte from charlottes web. I took a black shirt and stuffed black socks with plastic bags (I didn’t have stuffing) and hand stitched them on the shirt to look like legs. Then I glued Googley eyes on a black hat.
