Child support without the father listed on the birth certificate?

Does anyone have any experience or advice on filing for child support on a father who is not listed on the birth certificate in Texas?

Texas, no clue. But in Wisconsin, if there’s no father listed than a dna test needs to be done to determine the father before even beginning

They’ll order a dna test n if he’s the biological father then they’ll go after him for child support but if he’s not the father then obviously they can’t get child support from him

Not sure about Texas but in Ohio they will do a DNA to prove paternity. If father refuses to take test he will be listed as the father by default and they will start child support.

I live in Texas, father has to be on the birth certificate to get child support. Since you waited, you will need to do a DNA

Honest question though if he isn’t on the birth certificate which probably means he didn’t want the Baby to begin with why would he have to pay child support?

You can file for child support in Texas without the father listed and give the attorney general the persons full name and as much info as you can and the they will have to go to court for DNA verification but it’s all free

Short version- Yes, you can. Attorney general will order other parent to take DNA test and will be added to BC once paternity is established.

He doesn’t have to be on the birth certificate… In Texas, it’s the fathers choice if he wants to do a dna test. If he doesn’t, he’ll sign an acknowledgment of paternity to say he’s the father. But he has to request a dna test on the first court date.

In Texas they will have him do a DNA test and what ever the results are will determine child support or not

Some states, if you don’t have the father listed and he has nothing to do with child. He can opt to give up all parental rights and he will not have to pay child support.

I live in indiana. Just took mine to court. The first thing we had to do is get a dna test because he’s not on it.

My sons father has never been added to his BC and he paid child support. They didn’t have him do a DNA test he just had to sign an AOP (acknowledgment of paternity)

You can 100% get him to pay. The court will have him take a paternity test and then they’ll move forward. Just go to
Your family court area in the courthouse and ask for child support paperwork. Fill it out, get it notarized and they’ll schedule your hearing date!

And no he won’t have to go on the BC. Mine has never been and still pays and pays the arrearage for the years he didn’t pay.

File the application for child support and list the father on the application. The agency will begin the process, and request a DNA test, since the father didn’t sigh the affidavit of parentage to be listed on the birth certificate. Once paternity is established, they will enforce child support without him on the birth certificate. Assuming he is the biological father, the case will be retroactive to the date you filed, meaning he will start out owing back child support from the date you filed.

A lot of you are reaching so hard.

I wanted to terminate and he didn’t. I respected his wishes and decided to go through with the pregnancy. My first his third. He then waited until I was 4 months pregnant and ghosted me to get back with his ex. He “comes around” every once in a while but ghosts me again when he sees I’m not interested in him. It’s not always the women who are monsters.

I will always leave the door open for him to come around as that is his father and it’s not my right to take that away from my son. So yeah. If he decided to have this baby and he decides when he wants to come around and I always allow it without trouble then yes he should 1000% be helping me.
I’m not on government assistance I’m not on welfare it’s me doing everything on my own.
Y’all acting like I want this man to pay my bills. I just want him to be held accountable.

Also thank you to everyone who answered the question & shared your personal experiences without looking for something to be judgmental about

Nj DNA needs to be done first they from there if it’s the father then u can go after child support

He has to be on birth certificate and they will ask if father wants to do dna test to prove its his child (even if listed on birth certificate) he has the option to decline the test if he wants to

Lol i’m not gonna keep repeating myself I don’t think it’s right that someone wants money out of someone who didn’t want a baby to begin with it doesn’t matter if he helped create it if the roles were reversed it would be different so I’m not even gonna reply to all of you guys all day long simple minded that’s all…

DNA test ordered by court and they search for him. Took me 3 years to find him. But since opened he owes back. So go for it and open a case.

Either take a dna test or he has to sign an acknowledgment of paternity and yes I live in Texas and been through this already

I currently get child support for 2 of my kids & their father is not on the birth certificate. You will just need a voluntary acknowledgment of paternity or a dna test… They will offer both when you go to court or at least they did for me!

As long as the father doesn’t fight it. It can totally be done!

A dna test will be done

My middle sons father isn’t listed on his birth certificate but we have been getting child support for almost 6yrs now. Had to get a dna test done to prove he was the father.

Court ordered dna test. My child’s “biological dad” is not on the birth certificate but pays child support every month. And also, even if it’s been years since the child was born, he will owe back child support.

Get a DNA test then go from there.

The courts will get your a dna test when you apply for child support and if he gets served multiple times and doesn’t do his dna test he will be presumed the father and you’ll still get child support. One of my baby dads wouldn’t show up to his dna test after being served three times I think so they just slapped the support on him.

File for child support, they will do a paternity test through the court. Once paternity is established, they’ll add the name to birth certificate and they’ll decide on an amount for child support.

No need to do paternity first on your own. The courts will take care of it for you.

In my case, the father had to pay the cost.

If you don’t want me on certificate don’t go after them!
