Has anyone had the copper IUD? Did you have side effects from it? When I had a hormonal IUD, it threw off my Ph down there really bad so that it was really metallic. Does that happen with the copper IUD?
Do not get an IUD. They are dangerous and can turn sideways and rip your vaginal wall and uterus lining. They are not very effective as they move around and some men can fell them during sex. IUDās should be banned. Please donāt get one.
I had it for 10 years, just recently took it out. I started bleeding really heavy, would always get headaches before my period and spotted more frequently. This started happening the last 5 years of having it.
I didnāt have any complications while it was in (great experience, no side effects or pregnancy for 6 years)
, but it was absolute hell getting it removed. I had to have awake surgery and after two births, one all natural and one c section, getting the IUD removed was still the most painful thing,
I had hair loss, headaches just about every day, and red bumps on the sides of my armsā¦ I took it out after 6 years. Bumps havenāt gone away yet & that was 2 years ago!! It also got embedded so I had to have it surgically removed.
It threw it off and really long cycles
I have a heavier flow, 7 days, some cramps, occasional spotting. Iāve noticed i get headaches on the week of my period. I havenāt noticed any metallic. I do plan on changing birth control at some point. Iām over the 7 day period.
I still have it, been 4 years and no problems at all. But remember, everyoneās different
I had it! Hated it! It caused the WORST cramps ever 2 weeks out of the month
I had terrible cramps and migraines. I have several migraine disorders so it was a risk trying it in the first place.
Had mine for a year now so far so good except longer heavier periods
Had it 2 years it never broke or moved and I got pregnant on it.
Have had mine for 3 years and not one issue
Had one for 10 yrs and it was awesome, I took it out to conceive and after giving birth got another one put on and no problems
With working in an OBGYN, I can most certainly tell you that EVERYONE is different and everyone reacts differently. The copper IUD (Paragard) does not have any hormones in it. Also, itās your vagina. Itās like itās own eco-system. Crappy to say, but certain people are just more prone to imbalances when itās messed with.
Rare reactions is mostly due to cooper allergies/sensitives. I havenāt had any reactions and Iāve had two Paragaurd IUDs.
I loved mine! I didnāt have periods, just mild cramping here and there. About 3 years, I got pregnant on it (didnāt remove it quick enough so ended in miscarriage). I also didnāt have any problems conceiving after it was removed. Removal was quick and painless too!
I havenāt had issues with mine except heavier periods and cramping a whole week before and during my period . I had the mirena before and it was horrible . This one isnāt bad but I do hate the cramping and heavier/longer flow.
Iāve had mine for 5 years, no issues! Love having no hormones!
I had it and completely hated it but couldnāt risk getting pregnant back to backā¦ I ended up taking it out myself.
Just a heavy periodā¦ like extremely heavy
Heavy periods, intense cramping and it went missing so Iām currently expecting. They canāt find it on ultrasound. My first copper iud lodged itself sideways, too.
Had it twice, never had a problem some periods were heavier then normal but definitely manageable
Iāve had mirena I loved it changed it to paraguard and I hateeeee that I smell like pennies like all the time
I have had the copper IUD for 3 years now. 0 complaints. I have tried so many other birth controls and they all mess with my hormones and mood swings. The copper IUD has been great.
I am on my 2nd Copper IUD now. You will have cramping and some spotting on the 1st few weeks. After that, I would say the side effects for me would be PMS cramps, and spotting/discharge here and there. But other than that, I would say this is the best contraceptive for me. I donāt have to worry about pills or patches. But again, our bodies are all different. On my 12th year now with it and never been happier.
Heavier periods but mine were only 48hrs long. Other then that no problems
I had one after I had my son, I was 19 at the time. I get bad periods anyways which causes me to be anemic. but this was a whole other level of huge clots and bleeding super heavy that lasted 10 days at a time. I literally used my sonās diapers for pads when I had the copper IUD. Was terrible. Got it taken out after 4 months.
I had heavy bleeding for 2 months and then I had it removed
My doctor told me not to get the copper unless I was 110% sure I was not having any more children.
Had heavy bleeding when I removed it looked super rusty
I had lots of cramping at first and really really heavy bleeding. Cramps and bleeding did lighting up over the years. After 3 years of having it, I started having irregular periods and went to the Drās about it and they couldnāt find nothing wrong so I had it removed. Ever since then my periods are regular and very light.
I had mine for 5 years and no issues. Had it removed and no issues with conceiving after removal.
I had a Copper 7 IUD for years. No problems. In fact, I never had a yeast infection after getting it.
I had the opposite happen to me with the copper ! The copper made my PH balance down there brutal, so I changed to the hormonal one and it was fine. Hopefully this one is better for you! Goodluck
Iāve had mine for about a month now and itās been really good. There was minimal cramps at the start, periods last longer. Ie: my regular 8 day cycle went to 12. some more lower back cramps. Thereās no weight gain or hormones with copper, I know copper doesnāt really affect Ph balance, but it also doesnāt protect or prevent those things either. But honestly I recommend copper over hormonal hands down. To anyone wanting to get an IUD. Worth it. itās also an instant working contraceptive, thatās a bonus.
I got one for 4 years after having my daughter with zero problems, then planned my son, had him and tried it again when he was about 3 yo and I bled for over a month, wouldnāt stop. Finally went in and said take it out, in less than 24 hours bleeding stopped. She had no answers and said she never heard of such a reaction. I wish it still worked for me tbh.
Iāve got the copper iud, Iām on my 9th year with it. My periods are more painful with it but itās bearable.
I had the copper paraguard for 10 years with 0 issues. No worsening cramps or periods. No funkiness. Best of all, no hormonal side effects.
I had a copper IUD put in a few years ago and would honestly never go back to anything else. Hormonal stuff sends me crazy and wrecks my mental health. I get more intense menstrual cramps but it is totally worth it compared to the side effects I had on the pill/implant etc.
I had leg cramps that was all. It really stopped me getting preggo for 5 years.
I have the hormonal iud after a bad experience with the copper. I would get bad infections and I noticed that although yes I get some with thr hormonal one I started taking AZO that specializes that and I havenāt had issues since then.
The copper iud was the best decision I ever made, I wish Iād done it sooner. I really struggled with the additional hormones of every other contraception but the copper has been perfect! Iāve had a few side effects but nothing big and definitely nothing as bad as the others. Bit of breast tenderness monthly, thatās about it really. Honestly best thing I ever did
I had copper toxicity from the pill and it made me really sick for a long time. I would imagine itās not much different for the iud
I loved it at first but my cramps gradually got worse and worse until they were debilitating. I would be down for a minimum of 3 days at a time occasionally ugly crying from the pain and attached to a heating pad. My periods were much heavier than they had ever been. Getting it out was the best thing I ever couldāve done. Though the heavy bleeding stuck aroundā¦ The cramps didnāt. But your experience may be different. My bestfriend had it and loved it with no side effects whatsoever.
This is my third month on it. It made my periods a little heavier, no change in cramps. I do bloat really bad tho. Love having no hormones, they make me crazy.
I had a copper IUD because my hormones were so sensitive. 7 months later I had them remove it because my periods were so heavy, I felt like an alien.
I was desperate for the copper coil as Iād tried the Pill, mini Pill, depo injection and the implant, and really struggled with the hormonal side and the horrific weight yo-yoing.
I had the copper coil fitted and my body rejected it. Big time! I had horrendous bleeding for 3 months, was put on a drip and was told I had to have it replaced with the mirena. That was 5 years ago. Iāve had no issues with the mirena at all and have literally had it replaced yesterday.
Itās so hard asking for advice on contraception as everyone will have a different opinion/experience. Itās something you need to try and see what works for you and your body
It made me have unbearable period pains. I ended up removing it within 6 months.
Copper IUD was great but I did get pregnant while it was in place
I got the copper iud in 1972 after having my son with zero problems,
I had one for about 10 yrs with out any issues. My cycle got heavier but it mave have been due to me getting older not the iud. My cycle was very irregular before the iud, but that stopped. I got it out about 10 yrs ago. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone that has trouble with hormone based birth control causing problems. However, everyone is different
No issues other than heavier/more painful periods. But overall definitely worth it.
Pill/hormones had me all over the place and I was a wreck more often than I wasnāt.
Oh my gosh my experience was HORRIBLE. BV all the time and definitely metallic down there. If you had that issue with the hormonal one I wouldnāt recommend the copper. My bits literally smelled like pennies 10/10 wouldnāt recommend.
I have the paraguard and I loooove it! No hormones and good for 10yrs!!! Canāt beat it!!
Iāve had mine for 4 years now. At the beginning my periods where super heavy but they gave me a pill, then the depo for a couple of months with my iudā¦ now Iām just on the paraguard (copper iud) ā¦ I have to be careful with my hormones an mix them. An at 24 they would not tie my tubes, so we went this route an I love it.
I had it for a few years and loved it!!! It did make my periods heavier but overall it was great. I will take that over hormones any day
I had it for about a year, bled for nearly 6 months straight at the start. Then started going thru pre menopauseā¦ never again
I had it in for a couple of months. Didnāt work well for me. I broke out all over my face.
I have the copper non hormonal iud for almost 3 years, it doesnāt give me any trouble besides sometimes itās uncomfortable like I can feel it inside my uterus
I was thinking about getting this as well so Iāll keep an eye on comments lol xx
I got another 18 yrs as a mother. But that wasnāt the IUDs actual fault. Other than that I had it for 2yrs the last time. 7yrs the first time.
Iāve had absolutely no side effect besides the extremely heavy cycle for 1 day out of the 5. Cramps arent bad either on most months.
High copper can impact mental health too!
Had for 3 months now and Itās been a roller coaster. First month I had 2 periods then lost my period all together. My doctor claims thatās not due to the IUD
this happen to anyone else?
No issuesā¦
Been using it for 10 yearsā¦
Just my menstruation heavy some months
I had several. Not a single issue.
Had for 10 hrs with no problems!! Took out and got pregnant 2 months after.
I had the copper T. Not a days problem with it
My mum fell pregnant with twins on copper iud.
I had EXCRUCIATING cramps and Iām used to the bad cramps because of PCOS. But those cramps had me down and out. It also came out during sex. Iām not sure it was ever properly placed though. I never had it put back in and just went to a different pill.
I had one and got pregnant and my baby died.
Had mine for 11 years. Should been out earlier. Never had any issues.
Google or ask your doc
Iāve had it for about 3 years and at first I bled real heavy but now itās normal. No hormonal side effects
I got pregnant on iud n birth controlā¦so IDK what tell ya!!
Great radio reception.
The copper IUD uses the chemical reaction from the copper to make it uninhabitable for sperm
They put mine in upside down stupid fools
I had one for 5 years, and had it taken out so I could get pregnant, had my son and then had it put back in two years ago. I do have heavy periods, but I always have. Iād never use anything else. All other birth controls mess with my head or make me sick.
Do not get an IUD. They are dangerous and can turn sideways and rip your vaginal wall and uterus lining. They are not very effective as they move around and some men can fell them during sex. IUDās should be banned. Please donāt get one.
Iāve had mirena and lilleta, completely stopped my periods. But everyoneās different
Very heavy and painful periods. I ended up having it removed.
Iāve had mine for almost 4yrs now. Just a heavier flow & spotting right before a start. Some cramping during my cycle, but nothing that isnāt tolerable. Otherwise, never know itās there
So much so thur taste and smell! Yuck thatās why I have the Mariana
I had the copper for 3 years and loved it! No side effects at all other than heavier periods (extremely heavy) for the first 8ish months.
Iāve had Paraguard copper IUD for about 8 months now and the only side effects were super heavy and very painful periods and for the first 4 months or so my periods were coming every 2 or 3 weeks instead of 4. Iām on month 8 and theyāve been coming almost right on the 4 week mark and the cramps are still bad but not super painful and I think this is only gonna get better with time. You just gotta stick it out. No hormone bs is the absolute tits tho
Well mine has been in for 2 years but back in December, I noticed that the strings were longer than usual, so booked an appointment with my gp and she said oh they are quite long so she trimmed the strings and got me booked in for a scan which I then waited 3 months for. Straight away they noticed that the coil was in the wrong place and that I would need the gp to remove it ASAP. So I went back to the gp and she tried 3 times to remove it but she couldnāt find the strings. So Iām still waiting for an appointment with a gynaecologist to have the Coil removed. I have terrible pain most days low down and it gets even worse when I have a period. I would never have another one put in, as it could be another 6 months before I get it removed x
If you have metal (copper) allergies you will not want to use one. My Daughter broke out in painful itchy hives within a day of having it. She had to have it removed.
Only thing that went wrong when I got mine was my cramps were extra bad before my cycle and my girls get super tender before my cycle too, never had that happen before with other birth controls. My cycle is a bit heavier but Iāve always been a heavy bleeder but itās just a little heavier now. I sometimes will feel the pressure of it but other than that I have no regrets. Best decision Iāve made. Getting off my pills made me extremely hormonal and I felt like I was going crazy.
I have had one between my kids and after, a total of 20 years and no problems at all
Had mine for over a year only complaint was like the 1st 5 months periods were heavier but now my periods r like 3 days with 1 of normal bleeding then 2 with very light bleeding.
I had a copper iud & couldnāt have sex normally Iād just bleed & bleed. My partner could feel it in me & after 6 months it didnāt get any better so I took it out.
Worst experience ever, had it placed in c section, two periods a month lasting 9-12 days each , horrible lower back pain
I was one of those people who had horrible side effects from the copper IUD. I personally would never recommend it but once again I had a very bad experience with it. (It got stuck, caused major scaring, caused horrible periods which Iām still in treatment for to this day)
