Could lap band surgery be the reason I cannot get pregnant?

My fiancé and I have been together for a while, and we have wanted to try to have a baby. He thinks because he has had lap band surgery that it causes him to not be able to have kids. Is this true? Does anyone else have any experience? Thanks in advance.

I would think it would help, losing weight always helps with things…

it may boost levels of testosterone in men, but has no positive effect on sperm quality. Sperm count doesn’t increase but it doesn’t decrease either. The surgery shouldn’t affect his ability to get you pregnant. But if you’ve been trying and still no luck and feel strongly this could be the reason, I would definitely talk to his dr that performed his surgery. I have found most family drs just dont have enough educational information on surgical weight loss effects. I’m almost 18 years out from my gastric bypass and have found I’ve had to educate my own family dr. But yours could be very educated in this department. I just recommend talking to the dr that actually performed the surgery. I already had children and a hysterectomy before having mine so I’m not much help there but I’ve done alot of research and worked with my dr speaking at conventions with information about the surgery and its effects. I wish you all the best and hope you get good news.

:woman_facepalming:t2: your fiancé’s lap band surgery would not cause him to be infertile. If there’s a reason he thinks he can’t make babies, then he should see a fertility doctor. If he’s just assuming because you haven’t got pregnant yet, then give it time.

Honestly it could be either of you on why your not getting pregnant. Go see a specialist

  1. Relax and breathe
  2. Don’t try so hard to get pregnant, just stop all birth control and forget about. Just go about your life. Less stress about getting pregnant is a big help.
  3. Ok, bear with me, it sounds insane but here goes, stop using any plastic that gets hot. Example, plastic utensils in hot pots and pans, plastic used in the microwave to heat stuff.
  4. Lots of vitamin c
  5. Best of luck to you both.

dont have sex every day give time up sperm count

Doctors recommend giving it at least a year of trying. If you don’t get pregnant within that time, then start seeing a fertility doctor.

No. It took me 12 years to have my first kid then another 7 years to have my second kid. Some people just have a really hard time getting pregnant an if ur obese it’s even harder

No, lap band weight loss surgery will not stop him from being able to produce children. There are a plethora of other reasons and answers can be had, if you go see a dr.

Not true. I have plenty of friends that actually ended up pregnant faster afterwards because being obese can cause infertility.

So real simply, NO. Now go see a reproductive endocrinologist and have testing to see what you’re actually up against, if anything…

Not likely from the lap band. But, there definitely could be other things going on in terms of hormones.

Best thing, get some counseling as a couple and commit to each other with marriage. That child you want, has a life time need of two.

Not unless it was placed in the wrong place… the healthy you are the better Chances you having a baby you sure he didn’t have a vasectomy and just doesn’t want to tell you? I know a man did that.

Lap band has been discontinued for many many years in bariatric surgeries due to the band slipping and breaking and causing medical issues… Definitely a question for a medical professional

I’ve known females who had lap band surgery and have had children, so probably not the reason…

I had gastric bypass a year after having my first kid before that I was told I could never have kids got pregnant had him had bypass got BC about 2 years after bypass decided to try for another kids and with in 3 weeks of getting BC removed I was pregnant

He needs to talk to his dr. Has nothing to do with the lap band.

The best thing to do is go to a doctor. You need to go to an obstetrician and explain to them you have been trying to conceive. They will examine you and write an order for him to have his sperm tested. It could be something with one or the other or both.

Why do t you get married first and then try for a baby!

Unless they put the lap band around his ball sack it shouldn’t affect semen levels

Feel pregnant 3 years after lapband surgery, shouldn’t be a problem.

No he may have fertility issues but Not from lap band surgery

Ask him if he ever had the mumps…that could lead to low or no sperm count and he may not know that that is a side effect of having the mumps.

You both should undergo some fertility tests. Oftentimes the female in the relationship is automatically assumed to have the “issue” when in reality it turns out to be the male or a combination of both.

My friend was able to conceive and she had the lap band.

Your best bet would be to speak to a medical professional.

No. Have seen many women have babies after lap band surgery.

it was not the lap band surgery. you should both get checked by doctors.

You should both see a doctor.

That is definitely a question for your GP & unless there is a doctor " in the house " I can’t see anyone with a true answer . Every person is different !

My DIL is pregnant after lapband surgery

It could be PCOS which causes excess belly fat so could be related to the problem

I don’t know how a band around your stomach could affect the production of semen in your testes…I would probably consult a fertility doctor.

Go to your doctor ask them to check your tubes

It’s 2 different bodily functions.

It’s probably a hormone imbalance.

Please read the question he had surgery NOT her. How can you post if you’re not reading the post ???

No. But he should go to dr

Why are they asking Facebook instead of a doctor?

I doubt it. But y’all need testing

I would speak to a professional or a fertility doctor but I did find this on the internet. It idoes not mean it is true or untrue, just an article.

He’s pulling your leg! Lol

Negative. He needs to talk to a doctor, if you’ve been cleared as fertile.

All of these internet docs. …

Malnutrition is common in barriatric weight loss sergers patients.

Malnutrition will affect many aspects of ones life such as fertility.

But don’t take my word, I am just a nurse..... please consult a doctor.

Like another person suggested you need to have sex less often. Frequent sex and self love on his part lowers his sperm count. You need to focus more on sex around ovulation. They sell kits at the store to help you know when that is for you. Also were you on any birth control before trying? Takes a while for that to wear off. You can look that up by googling what you took. Good luck!

No, it should have NO bearing on his ability to have children. My advice, STOP having sex to GET pregnant. Have sex for the fun of it and the love and closeness. Stressing o we not getting pregnant makes your body react in odd ways! Enjoy sex and it will happen when it’s meant to be!

You- take prenatal vitamins with Folic Acid.
Him- take testosterone pills.
Wait it out from there.
That’s what my husband and I had to do with our first baby.

I would make an appointment with a fertility specialist, thru can run tests and see what’s going on and hopefully get you some answers.

I would check health issues first. There have been some very good suggestions given. Lap band generally just keeps you to eating smaller portions. It is for weight loss, not production loss.SEE YOUR DOCTORS. BE EVALUATED.

Ask the doctor. It also could be other reasons. Maybe God is saying it isn’t time yet. Just be patient ask the doctor and God. I was only blessed with 2 babies and in reality I couldn’t have any. But God had plans for me to be a mom. I can not have anymore cause I had a hesterectomy.

You Both Need To See A Doctor, for the guy, a Urologist to start with, and the woman should see her Gynecologist and you both should make sure your parts are working before you get worried…It’s the place to start. Good Luck !

I got a feeling your husband isn’t sharing his whole reason he can’t have kids

I would consult an OBGYN and fertility specialist. They may be able to give you some better answers. Anything can affect fertility and it could just be that it’s taking a while. When sperm is injected, thousands of active sperm die on their way to the egg and it’s very luck if one attaches. The female body is actually designed to reject sperm and kill it because it sees it as a foreign body. So becoming pregnant is not an easy thing by any means and it may be that there are several difficulties at play. Don’t worry.

Not the result of a surgery. His sperm May be a little slow and not able to penetrate your egg. Go together to a urologist. Even if you had children in a previous relationship, for the two of you together is may be difficult. Also, if the two of you had a child together there can be difficulties with conceiving another child. Best of luck on your journey.

I had the surgery as has a male relative and it doubt effect reproduction at all

All she wants to know is if anyone else has experienced this. I’m sure she’ll consult a dr too

depends where they put the band

My husband got me pregnant twice with his LAT band in place so I’d say no.

lap band has no itching to do with it . could be his sperm
quality or quantity

See a doctor! He could run tests! How do you know it’s him?

He could have a veracosel. That has to do with the veins in around his scrotums. Ask dr.

Try TRS! Its a zeolite used to detox heavy metals and I personally know of several people who used it (along with a few other detox techniques) to get pregnant!

Sounds like he’s making excuses.

Marriage is suspose to come before kids

Why don’t you try talking to your doctor…

A lap band on a man isnt likely going to prevent him from producing sperm or getting you pregnant. I’d maybe go to the hospital and have you both checked. My grandmother tried for years and it wasnt until she stopped and got back on BC that she got pregnant. .

Not unless they put the band around his testicles.
