Did you take Zoloft while pregnant?

Do any moms take Zoloft during their pregnancy? Specifically, the 3rd trimester? I have read everything online and spoke to my OB and psychiatrist about the risks, but I want to know about someone’s personal experiences.

Yes I did starting in my second trimester with my second child because I had post partum horribly after my first child. No side effects or issues with my second child thus far. She’s 9.

Following! I’ve been taking it and currently in my 3rd trimester. My dr has been fine with it throughout the pregnancy

I did! I’m prescribed 100mgs never had any problems. Zoloft is one of the safer antidepressants/anxiety medications you can take!

Yes I took Zoloft while pregnant with my 5 th child
But eventually I took my ownself off of it bc of the same concerns you have as well
Of course,?I did notify my doctor bc my opinion I just didn’t feel comfortable taking not just Zoloft bc I’m really not a pill person anyways
Now I have a regimen bc of other health issues but it’s ok to question anything that goes into your body

I did. 50mg a day. It is one of the safest ones, or at least was three years ago. I also took it while breastfeeding and had no ill effects there either.

I took it while pregnant and my anger and hostility was waaaaay worse on it then off it

Yes’My Dr. prescribed it to me in my 2nd trimester and my baby is ok hes 5 years old now

I took it while pregnant and my daughter had withdraws from it for about a week. (Shaking her hands, sneezing). After that shes been fine and shes almost 3

I did. It helped me well enough.

I took 100 mg both my pregnancies. My first did have some shaking when he was born due to withdrawal that only lasted a day or two, but my second wasn’t affected by it at all

I had to take it during my third trimester of my last pregnancy. It was a VERY low dose of 25mg daily. I didn’t notice any differences in my son once he was born or throughout his infancy. I was on it for a few months while breastfeeding too. It helped me a lot as I was to the point of wanting to hurt myself, etc. It helped me stabilize and feel like I could cope with things and enjoy my family again. It also helped me sleep as I had trouble with that before taking it.

My midwife told me I could take up until the third trimester but I would have to come off of it however I stopped as soon as I found out I was pregnant

I took sertraline 100 MG throughout my whole pregnancy and did not have issues. I did however need to change my antidepressant after having my son to something else.

I’m prescribed it. I quit taking it due to the fact I’m almost due. I feel fine just worried about the baby so I quit

I took it during my pregnancy and my daughter is just fine but it gave me horrible migraine headaches while pregnant so I had to stop taking it.

I did through my whole pregnancy. Was on 100mg Zoloft, it did no harm. My son was born 100% healthy. I still take it to this day and it’s been almost 2 years! It helped with post partum a lot!

I have been on it for a few years. 100mg took it while pregnant with my son taking it now and I’m
Currently 28 weeks pregnant. I’ve had no issues with pregnancy nor did my son. I read the risks to but they have to put that on there and my doc assured me it is safe

I took it my entire pregnancy with my son and daughter. Different doctors, but they both told me that if it would be more dangerous for me to stop taking it then I needed to stay on it. Both happy healthy great kids 2 and 4 now. Mommas mental health is so important before, during, and after pregnancy :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’ve been on anxiety and depression meds since I was 13. When I was pregnant I had to switch to a safe one (Zoloft/sertraline) for my daughter. It didn’t work as well as my normal meds, but it was better than nothing (kept me from going over the edge). I was on the maximum dosage. Safe for me and my daughter. Had a healthy baby girl 6lbs 13 oz, at 39 weeks and 5 days. Absolutely no withdrawal symptoms from baby. It was safe with breastfeeding too. Daughter is now 11 – happy and healthy!

Good luck!

Also, IMO, its better to be on meds that will help you from going over the edge, than not taking meds and potentially ending both lives because you needed help.

I took it during my second pregnancy start to finish - no complications with my son who’s 2.5 now :hugs:

I took it throughout my first pregnancy and my son was born with withdrawal issues and the shakes. Doctors said it was caused by Zoloft. He is almost 3 now and still suffers with the shakes. We were that small percentage that had side effects from taking it while pregnant.

My doctor is refusing to put me on it

I took it my daughters came out just fine

I was switched to Wellbutrin which is safe in pregnancy. I was able to come off everything after my pregnancy. Never been back on antidepressants.

I decided not to continue the prescription during pregnancy the second I found out I was pregnant as I found it it actually hasn’t been tested on pregnant women I didn’t want to take any risks . I had a hard pregnancy emotionally but when any other pregnancies I would stop also

It’s a serious relief to see that most of these comments resulted in a healthy pregnancy. I was prescribed and decided to start taking it about 4 days ago. My OB wasn’t 100% in approval of it and I heavily researched and asked my psychiatrist 100’s of questions before agreeing to take it because at this point my depression has almost completely bedridden me and i felt i had no choice but to take something. This post has greatly helped me cope as i was very distressed about the possible side effects but getting real reviews has helped alot. Thank you all so much

I took it my third trimester with my second and throughout my entire pregnancy with my third baby. All was fine

I’ve been on Zoloft since before I had kids, I have 2 kids and my first 2 pregnancies I stopped taking it then I fell again this year and didn’t stop and lost the baby at 9 weeks… it’s supposed to be the safest antidepressant to have while pregnant but I’ll definitely stop again next pregnancy

Yes and I can honestly say it saved my life because I almost killed myself

My dr got me to stop at 2 months to go so that the baby wouldn’t have withdrawals.
Either you have the withdrawals or the baby does

I did will all 4 of mine they were all ok

I did and all is fine with my 4yo

Yes, I did my entire pregnancy with my daughter. I was sick almost everyday until I took it

Yep everything just normal. Benefits outweigh any risks and the risks with zoloft are rather minimal

I was taken off mine during my pregnancy. Started it back up after he was born and the effects were so different. It made me feel super depressed mixed with my post partum hormones which sucked because it worked really well for me before. I havent taken it since.

I took it my whole pregnancy. No issues. It’s the one that’s recommended for pregnancy.

My dr told me that if I can go without then I should but if I cant go without then I can take it.

I did, I was fine until I had my son then things got worse so I had to get taken off of it

I was told Zoloft was the most preferred during pregnancy and post partum. It didn’t work for me post partum so they let me stay on Wellbutrin through my entire second pregnancy

I was on Zoloft before getting pregnant, and asked my OB about it when I got pregnant. She said it is important to continue taking it. Also, my baby (3 years old now) is in amazing health and never had any issues while I was pregnant or after.

I took it with my middle two children and both ended up in the NICU after birth due to low oxygen. I spoke with a NICU nurse who said that it can cause babies to be lethargic at birth. With my last baby I decided not to take it and he came out screaming and was perfectly healthy. They are unsure if it was the zoloft but I’d bet it was.

I did with both my kids. They were perfectly healthy.

I took it my whole pregnancy, no issues! Managed to come off it after my son was born and haven’t needed medication to help with my depression/anxiety since!

I did not take any of my meds for bipolar disorder while pregnant and was the healthiest mentally that i had ever been! They say that while pregnant your body produces extra of those chemicals we are lacking and most mentally ill are at their healthiest while pregnant. My mother worked mental health for years and noticed that seemed to be true.

I did. No issues as far as the pregnancy was concerned I just really hated Zoloft in general.

I did! I just had my baby girl almost 3 weeks ago and she’s perfect.

Yes I everything was fine

I did with my last 2 babies. They are both 17 and 18 years old now and perfect young adults.

Yes, I took it with my third. The benefits far outweigh the risks.

My ob actually prescribed it during my third trimester. I took it for about 2 weeks. I didn’t like how I felt, kind of being on autopilot so I stopped taking it. My daughter was completely healthy and is now a very happy and mellow 4 yr old.

I took Zoloft while pregnant with both of my boys.

I took it during all 3 of my pregnancies. Everything was fine
I’ve been told it’s one of the safer ones during pregnancy

Personally I tried it in the 1st trimester and it gave me several headaches. I stopped taking it until I had my next appointment with my doctor. She gave me something else to try, it’s been working so far and I haven’t had any side effects and baby is fine.

I took it and i and the baby was just fine, when you think about it when you are depressed you are puting the baby at risk also by all the stress you are on so there is risks on both sides chosse what you are comfortable with.

Starting taking Zoloft when I hit my second trimester. I hated it. Made me feel emotionless and like a zombie. My baby turned out completely healthy. Had no complications when being on that med except for how it made me feel.

Took it thru both my pregnancies . No issues at all

I did not but I did get back on medication and have been taking Zoloft since my son turned 3 months while I breastfeed.

I took it throughout my entire pregnancy and honestly, I don’t feel as though it worked for me . Started out at the lowest dose and worked my way up . After my son was born, my dr put me on Trintellix and I’ve been on it ever since ….it seems to help me much more than Zoloft did.

Started it back up around 20 weeks, no issues at all. Even as a NICU nurse I felt the benefits outweighed the risk for both my son and I.

I took it until the end of my first trimester. I was just way to scared about the risk

I’ve taken Zoloft for years. I took the lowest therapeutic dose (50mg) from weeks 19-36 of my pregnancy with no issues.

I wouldn’t suggest zoloft at all personally. Most women it takes away your sex drive and makes it harder to orgasm. I had to switch to a different medicine. Everyone’s different but from what ive read and heard it happens to majority of women on it.

I took it during the first and second trimester of my second child’s pregnancy. I was suffering from depression/ PTSD. I was already in therapy when I got pregnant. Taking it while pregnant scared me, so I quit taking it. I slipped farther into depression and had a panic attack in front of the OB. His words to me were “keep taking it. If momma ain’t alright, then nobody is alright.” I was able to wean off it in the beginning of the third trimester because of the progress with my therapist. Baby turned out fine and is a healthy 4 year old now.

I understand the risks of taking antidepressants (or any drug) while pregnant can be quite scary. But if you really need the medicine for your well being, then the risk is worth it. Depression without treatment is also thought to affect babies. I’m no doctor, but that’s what I’ve read and been told. Now, as far as Zoloft, specifically… every antidepressant is going to work differently for each individual. I had to try 2 different ones before trying Zoloft. What works for one person may not work for another. Just make sure you’re honest and open with your doctors and therapists. Good luck, momma. You got this. :muscle::two_hearts:

I’ve been taking Celexa 40mg through all 4 pregnancies and they’re all healthy… I’m 35wks with my 4th rn and so far so good!

I took it through my entire pregnancy and my son is perfectly healthy. Honestly, for me, I think it makes me a better Mom, wife, employee, etc. I love it.

I have all my pregnancies all the way through. I’m on 100 ml also. Everything was fine

I took it but soon after birth his movements were jerky/shaky apparently that was normal but everything was fine lasted around a few weeks

I have not, but I took Celexa, when I was pregnant with my first child. I had too, because I was suicidal during my pregnancy🥺

I did for maybe the first month after I found out and then weaned myself off all antidepressants all together because they made me feel worse. Only thing that helps me is paxil

My OB switched me from
Paxil to Zoloft when I started trying to get pregnant again. Paxil may cause birth defects.

Never. I got put on it after I had my son and it was the worst choice ever.Makes you gain weight, grind your teeth…just had a horrible experience while on it. I have been off of it for five months just took myself off after Xmas and I have so much more energy.I feel like I want to do things, feel happier. I have lost weight, stopping grinding my teeth and i had a lot of headaches before…they are all gone.

My dr stopped my zoloft when I found out I was pregnant. I felt when I was pregnant I didn’t need it. A month after I delivered my hormones and emotions were everywhere. I call the dr to get my script back.

If you. Can go without antidepressants I would. However if you need them and the OB declares it safe then it’s okay.

I took it my entire pregnancy with my 2nd child. He’s 4 mo on Tuesday. No issues thus far.

I also did and still am during nursing. There has been no issue with my little one. She was full term and a very healthy birth weight

I did for the whole pregnancy. No problems with it or the delivery. My baby girl is 100% healthy

I’m on my third pregnancy and I took it with all mine

Took it my whole pregnancy, she is healthy, happy and 11.

I would wake up in the middle of the night with sweats, my heart racing , sweaty hands && ugly thoughts i did NOT have any good side effects got off of it quick …

I took zoloft throughout my entire pregnancy, has zero complications.

I’m taking 50 mg a day since like 16 weeks. I’m 38 weeks now. I tried coming off it and mentally it’s nearly broke me. Dr said baby will be fine. Especially since I’ll be breastfeeding baby will still get low amount thru my milk so she wont have bad withdrawls from it

I took it through out my whole pregnancy and was on it pre pregnancy, No issues for me or baby.

I took it with all 3 of my kids. No issues they are 22, 21 and 19

I take 100 milligrams of it and I’m getting ready to go into my 3rd trimester. I’m also high risk and my ob has not said anything about me stopping them.

I took it but chose to stop during my 3rd tri just due to what I read myself about the 3rd tri. My OB said up to 50 was fine as far as dosage goes.
