Your best bet is to contact a tax professional. He may be able to file head of household if the babies are his as well.

Yes. You still have to claim the payments you received.
If the payments are in your name, he can’t claim the child.

Yes I didn’t work and filed and still got the other half of the child tax credit.

I don’t think your fiance can claim you…
Since you worked in 2021, even if only 2 weeks, you need to file taxes. You would claim your children as long as you don’t have a court order with dad that states otherwise

You can file for free on tax turbo . That way your info is up to date

Your fiance may claim you and the kids as dependents.

If he supported them all year and you live together he can claim them. Especially if they’re his kids.

You technically still get a W-2 from whatever job you worked no matter how long you worked there, so yes you have to file

If you live together he could claim them, but I think you’d have to repay the payments and then he’d get them.

I’d definitely talk to a tax professional. Is he the father of the children? If he is yes he can claim the kids.

My parents claimed my oldest daughter with child tax credit one year for whatever reason that was years ago though otherwise I’ve claimed her except 2 years of her life like said years ago

You still file even if you didn’t work. File jointly since you’re married.

Yes you need to file. You can do it free online

If your in Canada yes he can file you as common law and the children as dependents. I worked for a couple months and my hubby was still able to claim me

Yes he can claim you and your child. If you use turbo tax, he will claim you both as dependents and it will ask for your income you made that year .

Yes I went though this last year and I didn’t file and they took it and it took me 3-4 months to get it back !

I didn’t work in 2021 but I still filed because I’m the one who claimed the kids in 2021 for the advanced child tax credit.

He can claim you as well. Ask about it. He can get a credit for you
You didn’t work., he took care of you.

Yes, this is the first year you can file even if you made $0 in 2021

If you got the child tax credit than nobody else can claim the kids this year. You have to claim them. Go to irs.gov it explains everything.

Yes he can claim you on his taxes.

I thought if u got the credit u had to have something to file or else you owe that money back…is it not an advance on ur taxes?

I filed and got my money today

It depends if the kids are not his then he cannot claim them but he can claim you. If they are his then yes he can claim them.If you have any income at all you might be able to even get like home heating credits and stuff like that even. If it’s disability but yes you still filed so that way you can get the child tax credit. You don’t need income for the child tax credit this year.

If you filed last year to receive the Child tax credit then you need to claim them this yr or they can make you pay back the advanced payments

If the kids are not his, he can’t claim them. If they are then he can. But if you received the child tax credit I believe you have to claim them even if you didn’t work. I may be wrong, but it’s best to talk to a tax professional. Since he’s only your fiance, I don’t think you can claim taxes as a married couple.

Yes you should still file- if you let him file and he gets the CTC than your going to end up having to pay everything they gave you back because what they gave you was an advance on the ctc- also even if you only made 2 weeks worth of income there allowing you to use your 2019 income if it was more again this year so if you had more in 2019 than than you’ll get to EIC off that income instead.

So how can another person file for them if she got the child tax credit then they would be paying them twice for that money we got

I know in Ontario you have to files your taxes no matter what to receive your baby bouns.

You always file. Period.
He may be able to claim you, if you lived together & depending on the state. Some won’t file it that way.

I would be careful claiming the children with you getting the tax credit. Last year. My fiancé claimed my kids and then the next year I claimed them but because he was getting the money and then I claimed them I think it made my fiancé OWE unless it was some other dumb shit his ass did :joy::joy:

I’m in the states and I had my fiancé claim me and my two children a couple years back, we ended up getting audited and our taxes were months and months late.

Long story short: He wasn’t legally able to claim my children because he wasn’t a relative. Unless you two are married, the children would need to be related to who is claiming them. Aunt. Uncle. Grandparent. Parent. Legal guardian. Etc.

I also did not work this year but a few weeks, and still filed with my kids and am set to receive the other part of the child credit.

I would recommend just filing yourself for you and your kids so it doesn’t complicate things or cause a delay in either of your refunds.

Please talk to a licensed tax preparer. Laws have changed greatly. There’s a lot of misinformation here. Talk to someone who knows.

Hi look up the look back rule. That’s how I’m filing this year!

Your fiancé can claim you but you still have to report wages earned.

The don’t file hold of household if your not head of household. If you live with a man and he claimed head of house you can’t.

He probably can’t claim them because u already claimed half the credit for the year if he does I would put that the tax payments were recieved u don’t want one of you owing it back . Are the kids his if not then no .

Yes, your other half can claim you and kids but you have to file with him. You do have to claim any money you did it.

I would just to cross all your lines; you never know

You can still file your taxes by using your 2019 Income as this is allowed due to a lot of people not employed due to Covid. Since you have received your child tax credits for your children you will receive the reminder of the credits. If you’re fiancé files there is a possibility his return will get flagged and investigated since you received the payments. Talk to your tax preparer and ask all these questions.

Seek advice from a tax preparer. Every state is different and each situation is unique. Would hate for you Or your fiancé to get audited based on receiving wrong information on Facebook

If you had no income in 2021, they are allowing you to use your 2019 taxes as income. You will get the remaining CTC. Even those that received unemployment last year are choosing to use their 2019 taxes.

Taxes seem so complicated and frustrating. Grateful I don’t deal with this stuff. My brain would melt.

i don’t work but my husband claims our children and myself

Yes you can still file and claim the kids on your taxes.

Go to a tax professional and ask them the best way to go about doing it. Yes he can claim you and the kids but if you received any of the advanced child tax credits that would have to be paid back. Not sure how it works with that. Ask someone that knows the newest information because a lot has changed this year.

U worked. U can claim them. You will get a huge refund. Doesn’t matter if it’s a week. My husbands ex used to work 2 weeks just to be able to claim them every year then not work and live off that and child support

Any income over $600 should be filed

Soo I did my taxes and said I made 0 this last year but in 2019 I worked so does that mean I did it wrong

You still worked in 2021- even if it was only for two weeks…You still need to file.

How can you file for a tax return when you haven’t paid any taxes ?

I’d ask a professional tax person. Here in Florida, my fiance cannot claim me, been together for 13 years, tax lady told him we aint married so he can’t claim me, just our son.

Call TurboTax and ask.

I havent worked in 10+ years and still file my taxes every year. Hubby claims me and all the kids as dependants though.

If you worked in January, you did have some income. If you’re not married are the kids all his? If not, he can’t claim them. File taxes yourself. You can do it for free online by answering the questions on taxfreedom.com. (it’s turbo tax free for those with low income)

Also if you worked and made more in 2020 you can also use that income to get a better refund . Ask a tax professional .

Yes, file, so you continue to receive CT and GST. If you do not file, you will not receive… they do not deduct them. If you live together, you can file together, but best to file separately as CT is based on income.

In Indiana he can claim Head of household with you all as dependents.

I worked for about 2 months in 2021 but mind you I was sick for the majority of those 2 months so it was actually like 3 weeks worth and I went ahead and filed. It turned out better than I thought.

Yes, you need to file so you can get the rest of your Child Tax Credit.

You have to claim them no one else can if you got the child advance payments. Or you have to pay it back.
File head of household.

You need to file this year even if there was no income. If you got the ctc, you’re due the other half as a refund. If he claims the kid now, you owe the first half of the ctc.

The ctc was fully refundable this time around so you don’t need an income to receive it.

Yes and yes. In my state (IN) if you make less than $12000/yr, you do not have to file. My ex claimed me one year, I was a stay at home mom

You still get the child tax credit if you didn’t work, and if you received it during july-dec, you’re still owed the other half and you have to file a return to get it. If you didn’t get it at all, your husband should be able to get it if he claims your child. You can also get tax breaks for things other than working, like going to school, paying school loans, paying rent, and other tax exemptions. So, I would definitely file if you already got half of the child tax credit, or if you want to get the whole thing in your name. You didn’t have to have worked at all to get it this year.

If your fiance supported you and babies, yes, he can claim all of you as dependents (it’s only a $500 credit for you). But also need to show child credits received, and if that’s in your name (assuming) then I would recommend having a tax pro do your taxes to make sure i’s dotted & t’s crossed. Anything not done correctly delays return greatly. It also may be a bigger credit for him claiming everyone if he worked all year-child tax credits can be maxed with higher income, very limited with very low income (below $4000/year)-and earned income credits go up with additional dependents and phase out at higher incomes for him. I’m not up to date on changes for 2021 tax season, but have done taxes for 3 years prior with a well-known company.

This year the CTC is refundable so you do not need earned income. So yes it would benefit you to file.

If u live together an ur man works an supports u an ur babies… He can claim u… Also this year u can file child tax credit even if u didnt make a single dime!!
