Hi Ladies,
I’m a first time mommy, I’m 39 Weeks thurs… baby has always been showing bigger than average, was in hosiptal today. He’s roughly showing 8.12:face_with_hand_over_mouth: Worrying part is, I still have another week to go. They gave me the sweep which I’m hoping will start me? Otherwise I’m in next Monday for an app, and booked for an induction on the 24th of this month How likely is it il go in the next day or two after the sweep? Also what do ye think of his weight? And what’s yer opinions about being induced and how exactly is it done? Sorry, I’m all questions but I’m super eager and excited now but I’m anxious over his weight

my doctor told me that my baby was going to be almost 9 pounds at birth, so to get induced at 39 weeks. I ended up getting induced at 39 weeks, after 12 hours of labor had an emergency C-section and my babe came out almost 8 pounds. They can never exactly hit the nail on the head, just to give you their best educated estimate

My son was 10lbs 3 oz. he measured about a week ahead of what he was, he is still a big boy. I also pushed him out and luckily no stitches!!

I was induces with oxytocin a week ago because my water broke at 36 weeks. The contractions were the worst i ever had and it was my 4th delivery. The actual delivery was over very quickly

I was induced. It was fine. The weight should be fine. Don’t worry too much because it will give you unnecessary anxiety. If the doctor thinks baby is too big they’ll do an episiotomy and you won’t even notice until the 1st time you pee. Hang in there, you’ll do alright.

My baby was 3 weeks early and 4lbs 15oz. I was induced for medical reasons and it wasn’t bad. I was induced the 6th, they stopped at midnight cuz I wasn’t dilating, restarted at 5am the 7th, and she was here at 3:10pm. It all depends on how you react to induction. I had every method they could offer done before my baby girl was born
You can be induced a couple of different ways. There’s the slow and steady and the quicker way. I’ve been through all of them. The slower methods are inserted by your cervix to ripen it. Those didn’t work on me to we switched to an IV.
Ultrasounds can easily be a pound off. Babies can gain up to 1/2 a pound a week at the end but in reality it’s the head size. Lol fat is squishy. My 8 lbs had he same head size as my 10 1/2 lber I wouldn’t worry. I was induced but not until after 40 weeks. Induction has more of a chance of csections.

I had a sweep with 2 of my children both worked for me. Good luck mama

I was induced on a Monday at 8am and had my daughter Wednesday at 102pm. She was 9 pounds even and I pushed for 20-25 mins. My Dr said my baby was weighing about 8pounds a week before I had her and she was a pound heavier. She didn’t want to come out so I had to have my water broken for me.
My daughter was my first, and weighed 10 lbs.
Oh honey don’t be anxious and don’t rush it. I was measuring 10+lbs at 38 weeks and almost strong armed into a c section scheduling but I stuck with my gut and said no. Went into labor naturally on his due date and he came out at 8 lbs 14 oz. I don’t trust the US measurements

Honestly it’s really all just guessing/ estimating the weight. I just had my first and my first ob was talking about inducing b c baby was always measuring big!! She went on mat leave and my new ob had no worry saying it was my first and we will see. I had the sweep done at around 39 weeks and I had her less then a week later weighing in at 8.8. They kept telling me close to 10 lbs. If everything is good he or she will come when ready❤good luck momma hope everything goes smooth.
I gave birth to an 8.5 pound boy naturally, just fine. I did tear, but I fully believe that was on the midwife changing my position mid delivery with out my permission, not his size.
Also, it is extremely difficult to actually determine the size of the baby in the womb. More often than not they are incorrect, and they just seem to stress new Mama’s out.
Just remember, your body was designed to do this.

I was induced on July 30th, baby was due on 9th of August but my water broke the 29th at 8:00 pm during intercourse !! Lol. I was t feeling contractions much so they induced the contractions with pitocin and it only took 8hrs I was in labor and I pushed for only 20 min! my lil boy was only 6 pounds and 2 ounces and I tore a lil bit the mid wide said. Very small tear . I didnt feel the stitches while being stitched but oh boy after when you pee is the worse if you do tear keep using that hospital numbing and cooking spray it works so well, take it home with you , and the witch hazel pads along with the hospital undies . I got a bunch and in still wearing em! Good luck mama. He was also my first baby too! You’ll do fine
I was induced my baby was 8lbz 14ounces when he was born
I was over 8lbs when I went to the doctor. Was actually scheduled to be induced the evening I went to the doctor…due to low fluid levels. They didnt induce me til the next day, I had her at 5pm… she came out only 7lbs and a few ounces. they aren’t always right. Good luck tho! I hope you have a smooth delivery! & you and baby are healthy!
I agree with other comments that the estimated weight can be off. They told me at around 34-36 ish weeks my son was around 6 pounds already and he was only 6 lbs 11 oz when he was born at 39 weeks 5 days
I’ was induced 6pm and gave birth at at 9.06pm. I was in active labour for 1hr 12 mins and this was my first
I just had my 2nd child July 24th I had him at 38 weeks 4 days he was 9lbs 6oz when I had him they had to induce me that day cause he is measuring at 40 weeks if Dr isn’t worried then u will b fine my 1st born I was induced at 39 weeks 4 days n he was 9lbs 12oz when I Had him lol
My Dr with my 2nd child said he estimated at 9lbs 8oz n he was 9lbs 6oz he was only. Off by 2 oz
My kids were 8.15, 10.8(10 days early-not induced) and 11.8(1day early-induced by caster oil. My own decision. He was due on my moms birthday and she was being selfish). I had no epidermal with the first. I regretted that greatly. Screamed for it as I was wheeled in for last 2 babies. No episiotomy for all 3. A slow birth process is the best course of action. Dont let them talk you into a c section due to sz alone. They tried with me and I did just fine.
Also, your baby will come when ready. Do not get induced. Why hurry something along that’s meant ty o take a certain amount of time?
My baby was supposed to be just over 9lb, I was told this from my 32 week ultrasound all the way until delivery. I was terrified! She was born 7lb 10oz with a super easy, almost peaceful natural birth🤷🏼♀️
The weight can go either way… the are usually pretty good about guessing within a lb up or down.
My first boy they guessed was about 7lbs 14oz came out at 6lbs 13oz… my 2nd they guessed was going to be in the high 9lbs… came out 8lbs 10oz. I wouldn’t stress the weight to much…
I think 8lb is a decent weight
My first baby measured 8lbs 7ozs at 36/37 weeks… he was born on his dude date at 9lbs 1oz. But ultrasounds can be off by a pound or two.
I wouldn’t worry, those are just guesstimates and baby usually isn’t that big.

I was sweeped and it didn’t work at all so they tried one more thing. Ended up using the Pitocin. I had her in four hours. Very long baby. She weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. It effected my bladder. I leak a lot easier but overall I’m fine.
I was told my son was going to be big , 9 lbs and up.
He came out and weighed 6.8, its an estimation that most times is wrong. Its just one more week, you are fine momma Just remember to listen to your OB when it comes to pushing. If you push too hard too fast, no matter how small he is you can still tear. So pace yourself and count slowly with you OBgyn.
Good luck and congratulations!

I was induced on my due date. Had a sweep ended with c section because nothing happened. My daughters estimated weight was correct. I was measuring 4 weeks ahead the last month… She was 10lbs
I was told my baby was gonna be 8 and he came out at 6 lol
I’d rather bet on winning power ball numbers than if ultrasound weight guesses are right. At 37 weeks they told me #1 was already 8+ pounds and she’d be at least 10 at birth because I was overweight and probably had undiagnosed gestational diabetes (I didn’t). 12 days later she was born at 6lbs. 12oz. I won’t bore you with the details but similar story with #2 and she was 7lbs 4oz.

Estimated weight can be off by a matter of pounds! So put your mind at ease.
If you’re not dilated they will put a pill on your cervix every four hours until you dilate, then they will start an IV of pitocin which kickstarts those contractions.
But you may never need it. Your body may do everything for you! It was literally built for giving birth! Let your body do its thing.

i had 1 normal delivery she was a 7lb 60z on time 2 days early from due date and she walked out too.and i had a 8lb 15 oz that was due fools day induced on the 13th and after being induced she kinda walked out. . and i had a 7lb 13 oz due date july 4th induced on the 9th at noon didnt come till the 10th at 1:am.
My first was 8.12 when she was born and I honestly thought she was smaller than that… I’m not sure about the sweep as I haven’t had it done (but am Wednesday so fingers crossed it works) I’ve been induced with both of my kids and it’s not horrible. I’ve gone in they’ve hooked me up to an iv and put me on pitocin (think that’s how it’s spelled) with my daughter I was in labor for 16 hours and my son for about 14.
I went 6days over my due date my indusement date was 2 of April at midnight , i ended up going on my own 30th of March my due date was March 24th (I had sweep 6days before i went into labor )
It doesn’t always work ! Or put u in labor in 24h or 48h it can take days like it did with me !! It also depends on how many ur dialed already , i was only 2cm and my water broke at 2cm lol
I was told my son was going to be 10lbs, mind you this was a week before he was born. He was born 40weeks 4days and weighed 7lbs 11oz.
Try not to worry too much about the weight they’re usually wrong with those predictions they said my nephew was going to be almost 9lbs and he was 6lb 2 oz
I had stretch and sweep. My mid wife was sure it take that night but I went in labour the next day. My son also big and endured . It is nothing really a drip. I am being induced on the 19 at 38 weeks because babys gonna be almost 10 maby more if I wait longer.
Ultrasounds can be off.
They estimated my son at 7 pounds and some change. He was born at 9 1/2 on his actual due date.
Also I have gestational diabetes definitely don’t need the ultra sound to see baby’s big. I have little fluid and all baby. And like I am not big it’s just my belly . So trust me I don’t doubt baby is gonna be almost 11lbs if I waited the 2 more weeks
If that baby weighs over 9 pounds you get yourself checked for diabetes I heard that rule didn’t believe it well for me it turned out to be true I’m Type 2

8.12 is a perfectly healthy weight. Also, ultrasounds can be off on weight. I was told I’d have a huge baby and he ended up being 7lbs. As for sweeping, it’s different for everyone but I went into labor the next day. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all.
Doc was telling me my son was 9.2 lbs he came out 41wks 1 day at 7.10. I was induced never had my membranes swept
A friend just had her baby…
10 pounds
We are so close for our due dates. My due date is August 18th. I just turned 39 weeks yesterday. I wish my doctor’s would tell me how big or how much the baby weighs. I hope the membrane sweep works. I was 10lbs 11ounces when I was born, my mom was glad for a c section😅

My boy was big. He was always a week or 2 ahead of my. If I was 32 weeks he was showing 34. He was born at 39 weeks 4 days 9 pounds 2 ounces. Which was better then what the doctor told me he’d weigh. They all thought he’d be 10 pounds at least
I went into labor 8hours after my sweep at 36+6 after having on and off contractions 4-6min apart for 2days. Had my son 23 hours AFTER labor started though so 31hours after the sweep.
Ultrasound scan be up to 4 pounds off
Measurements arent always right, I was told my baby would be 7 lb 6 oz and she was born 6 lb 2 oz. So dont be too too worried
I got it done 3 times with my first to avoid induction since my daughter was IUGR. It didn’t work either time.
I got it done with my newborn while I was in early labor that wouldn’t progress…it worked within a couple of hours for her.
It won’t work if your body isn’t ready.
Also, I was told my second was 6lbs 4oz at 37 weeks. She was born 39 weeks 2 days at 6lbs 3oz. So she was WAY smaller than that over 2 weeks prior. Unless you’re seeing a Perinatologist and have the most perfect machines to do these measurements…they are not very accurate this late at all.
I had a sweep done with my second just after I was 40weeks and it didn’t do anything other than give me contractions for just over a week, I went 9days over with him, he was average for weight at checks and was 9lb1 born. They guessed the weight right with my 3rd though, told me he was gonna be big I expected around 9lb again but he was born 10lb9.
Dont worry about baby’s weight. It’s off by 1-3lbs as a rule. They told me my baby was 3.4lbs and the very next day she came out at 5lbs even. Another of my baby’s they said was 4lbs and 2 hours later I got a csection and she was 6.2lbs. So the weight isnt always right. My sister was overdue and they said her baby was almost 10lbs and 3 days later baby was born just over 8lbs. Dobt stress about it. Induction suck I won’t lie. If they can do it WITHOUT pitocin I would make every attempt to avoid it be7it makes everything hurt 100x worse. Just relax and go with the flow. Baby will come. Due dates are never exact.
I was 41 weeks when they did mine with my first. Early labor for 3 days with no progress. Finally the 3rd day we had some movement but I honestly wouldn’t recommend it if you can avoid it. It hurts and my experience I wouldn’t wish on you. To answer your question though, yes it would most likely cause contractions
I had mine done with both of my pregnancies and both worked. Good luck x
