Do you get your kids teachers a Christmas gift?

Is it really a thing to get your kids teachers and bus driver a little present for Valentine’s Day/Christmas/end of year?

I do it more so to teach my kids the importance of gift giving to the people that matter to you. Your children spend hours, day in and day out with these people. They might not matter to you but they definitely matter to your kids.

We buy gifts for Christmas and National Teachers day.

Absolutely! They are with your children 5 to 10 hours a day. Absolutely get them a gift even if it’s some homemade craft from your child! :white_heart:

Christmas and end of the year gift. Christmas we try to get a gift card to a coffee shop or somewhere we know they like to go and can treat themselves to something nice.

End of the year we try to get them a small gift card to a coffee shop again or a restaurant and also a gift card to staples or office Depot or wherever they can go to buy stuff for the classroom. Or of course Amazon.

We also try and get the bus driver something as well, considering they usually almost always have some type of small treat for the kids during the holidays.

Even a card to let them know you appreciate them and all of the work they put into providing for your child’s education is nice.

You don’t have to. It’s just a nice gesture. With the economy being what it is, don’t feel pressure to do so. I’m sure the teachers understand.

I did I would pick out a few ornaments and gave them as a teacher’s gift I did this all the years my daughter was in school
It was like a tradition we gave ornaments and sometimes they were engraved with the year ect
They loved getting a ornament every year

We do elementary teachers and bus driver same driver for 4 years running! We do small things usually the girls pick out a coffee mug with things in it. For sure something most will use. My middle school kiddo does for wrestling coach and her homeroom teacher who is also her math teacher but again it’s like a 10 dollar starbies card or a new coffee mug with treats. Nothing over 10 bucks

Absolutely, Christmas and teacher appreciation week. A Target gift card has always put a smile on their faces.

Usually, yes we do teacher gifts. This year specifically, absolutely not lol.

The best gift I’ve ever given teachers/school staff were charm bracelets & keychains made with shrinky dink charms my kids made. Those brought tears. Was expensive either.

I always did Christmas gifts for the teacher.

My daughter always made and gifted tote bags in elementary school. We would do her handprints and year then I woukd use a felt marker and write down all her favorite things about the teacher and things they did during the year. If money allowed we would go to dollar tree and out a few supplies in tote bag

I do.
Christmas and teacher appreciation week…

I do about $10.00 each typically a gift card or something they like especially if they had an introduction bio at the being or school.

Remember gifts don’t have to cost money either.
A homemade card goes a very long way

As a teacher, it is appreciated but never expected. The best things are homemade like an ornament or card. Amazon gift cards are amazing too because then we can shop for our classroom and all students benefit.

If a specific teacher and my son have a great bond than we purchase a small gift for them, but that ended in jr high for him. Before then it wasn’t really as popular as it is now.

I homeschool, and their teacher is DEFINITELY getting a gift.

If you can afford it yes. It always nice to show the teachers some appreciation. I brought a small gift to my teacher up through Middle school (6th-8th grade). In middle school I had multiple teachers so I would just bring a gift to my “core” class teacher. We didn’t have much money so many times it was something hand made but they were very appreciative regardless

If you can afford it all the power to you but this year we can barely afford to do our own immediate family.

It’s a thing for some (even when I was in school). There were a few students every year in elementary that would take something in for a teacher. After grade 4 it didn’t happen.

With that being said, no we don’t.

My mom was a bus driver for 20+ years. Gifts from her kids were very special to her. Some families gave the same things every year (homemade treats, mugs, gift cards etc). She looked forward to that. 1 family gave her a mug every year with that years calendar on it. She used that last 1 for over a decade. Others gave homemade cards or gifts. They had to go out every year. The kids were in highschool or college & the ornament they made her in kindergarten still went in our tree.

I do Christmas and end of year only. Typically I’ll bake a small loaf of banana bread and grab a cute holiday oven mitt or kitchen towel and wrap them in a ribbon with a $5 coffee shop giftcard or something similar. For end of year my son loves doing a succulent in a cute little pot and I have him write a quick little card saying thank you.

Yes! My mom and I did it all through public and high school even my EAS got gifts. Mind u we would bake Christmas/Valentines day/end of year goods and wrapped them up nicely and they loved it

If you can afford it then an Amazon gift card for your child’s teacher is a nice little gesture. Remember teachers rely on donations or have to pay for classroom supplies from their own pocket. End of the year I try to do some spiral hair ties, gift card to Starbucks/Duncandonuts or chick fil a but nothing too extreme as my child has 3 teachers in her class this year

I use to when he was in elementary but not no more lol. Do you know how many teachers my kid goes thru now each day? About 8 different teachers since he’s in high school now.

Yes. I always get something small from dollar tree. We buy for the bus driver, teacher, cheer coach, principal, and 3 coaches at her gym so it’s a lot.

I ordered a customized ornament for my son’s teacher. I’ll probably send that with a Starbucks gift card. She’s amazing.

My kids always bought something for their teachers thru Elementary school. I think it is good for kids to choose something and find the joy in giving as well as receiving.

gift cards. they get enough stuff they don’t want/like/need.

they appreciate gift cards. trust me.

If I can fit it in my budget I always include a small something with a hand written note of appreciation.

I do, my daughters are in elementary. I usually buy the bath and body works candels, get them when they are in special. One for each main teacher, each has 2 teachers, and they also have music and art which as they both have the same we do one from both. They love the candles. I truly appreciate the teachers from years before and I also get then a little something. I always get things in special though, like when christmas it’s over I go and buy things that I know they would like or something for the classroom and save it and already have it for when events come around. I do for christmas and teachers appreciation day/mothers day( they land in the same week). They are amazing teachers so I try to make it happen even on a tight budget. Been through some hard times with my girls so I am truly grateful.

Ive done christmas gifts at preschool elementary school age ive gotten them ornaments of something they liked or just a teacher ornament with there name on it. with some candy but when i do the candy i avoid nuts and peanut butter products because of allery or just in case. and something else small. and teacher appreciatin gift when its appreciation week. and an end of the year gifts the female teachers ive done flowers and male teachers ive tried to figure somthing out ive only delt with female teachers. except one year a male teacher. ive even done a crossing guard forgot to mention.

I never understood this what about the ones that can’t afford this, Don’t you think it would make the child feel bad or possibly get picked on

We always get the teachers gifts throughout the year . Nothing crazy . Just about $10 each .

remember teachers do not want anymore cups

Yes when elementary we always got teacher gifts now in middle school (Jr high) we will likely only get for the ones he connects with and likes most. We just can’t afford gifts for all of them even if we wanted to. if you do please remember their bus driver they are so often overlooked.

We do something small and gift cards all around. Specials teachers get $10 and teachers and bus drivers get $25/30 plus small b and b works gift. Christmas and ends of year. V day they get a small box of chocolates. And every time kids write out a card

I don’t do gifts anymore when u have 4 kids there’s like over 10 teachers

We always do through elementary school. Middle school and high school my kids make homemade cookies/brownies to give out to the teachers… they seem to really love that and it’s all made by the child so it makes it more special to the teachers. My high school daughters teachers always look forward to her homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Yes we do Christmas, teacher appreciation week, and end of the year. We do the teachers and crossing guard. Usually a gift card since I know they get so much stuff they most likely throw away

I make ornaments for my kids and grandkids’ teachers, aides and bus drivers for Christmas. End of the school year it’s usually a braided keyring in the school colors or a small pocket photo album with a note that says “thanks for helping make memories this year, here is a place to keep some of yours”

We raised ducks and geese . Mother would dress and wrap a bird for the bus driver and the mailman. They would seem very happy with these unusual gifts. The bus driver told us his goose was their Christmas dinner.

I do not! I never have! I do however supply the teachers what they need when requested. (Snacks, supplies, my help etc)

If you loved your kids teacher then I would. I def love my kids teachers so I have. But i wouldn’t id I wasn’t so keen on the teacher or how they taught my child.

I got her teacher a few things and then I got her principal, vice principal and school nurse (she goes to her 2-3x a day for her inhaler) all a small gift🤷🏻‍♀️

If your student likes the teacher, you can afford to do so, and the teacher does a good job, the sure

Teacher? Yes. Bus Driver? No. B should have kept her hands off my kid and then maybe she would have :woman_shrugging:t2:

Only for daycare and elementary school years.
