do you think it’s bad luck to do things like pick out names, start registries etc. when it’s still early in the pregnancy? I’ll be 8 weeks on Friday.

There’s no such thing as bad luck. What will be, will be

Not necessarily bad luck, but it’s a good idea to wait until you’re out of the critical period( first trimester) just because so much is taking place as far as development of the baby and at any time something could go wrong.
