Are you expecting the child to use a stove unsupervised? Even microwave ovens use should be supervised. Start instructing your children. Start with grilled cheese, stir fry, making sandwiches. My son could cook on a stove when he was 6. He wanted to write a book about all the different ways to make Ramon noodles when he was in grade school. Cooking is good bonding. Baking is math.
I do. In a frying pan, 1 tbsp olive oil. 1 tbsp crushed garlic. Sautee until fragrant. Add grape tomatoes (at least a pint). Add a cup of white wine, juice of half a lemon and 1-2 tbsp of dried basil. Let simmer for 30 minutes. Cook angel hair pasta and mix together. For more substantial meal add shrimp or serve with pork chops
Chicken nuggets and vegetables on the side.

Baked Potato Soup in a CrockPot. One bag of frozen hash browns, one 32 oz. box of chicken stock, one can of cream of chicken soup. Stir it all together and cook on high to get it going then down to low. Cook time is about five hours. An hour BEFORE serving, add a 8 oz. block of cream cheese (cut in smaller pieces) and stir it in until it is all blended. Serve with shredded cheese, chopped green onions, sour cream and bacon bits. You can also serve it with cornbread or homemade yeasty rolls (my fav). I use a liner in the pot for easy clean-up.

Not sure the age of the child, but both my niece & nephew could do Hamburger Helper solo at around 10/11. My other niece has been making deviled eggs & homemade guacamole since before 10. Betty Crockers
cookbook for kids. My kids got one when they were 7 and 5…meatloaf chili, etc. Once a week one kid would be responsible for choosing a meal to make and they should work on it together.
Depends on how comfortable you are with your kids are different items around the kitchen. Start there and ask them what they want for dinner and have them help make dinner or dessert. I have always had my nieces and nephews help in the kitchen with what I felt was safe for them to do. It gets them comfortable in the kitchen and familiar with everything. If it could be chopped with a butter knife that is what I let them do. Wash veggies and fruit. Stir if I was right there with them. Basting food they liked doing ( although I have gotten basted as well) mixing dough. Making cavatelli or meatballs. But these are also things my family did with us growing up. I have been in the kitchen since I was 2. And I along with my siblings and cousins just continue to do the same with the next generation of children.
Hot dogs are easy for kids, taught my grandson to make spaghetti which is easy. I poured the water off the pasta because it is a little dangerous, but, he handled everything else.
