Hello! My son just turned 1 on march 2nd. I had him transitioned to whole milk and he was doing fine, then he stayed the night with his grandma and came home and is now refusing milk in its entirety. I tried using a different sippy cup, I tried silk milk, almond milk… everything. He will not drink it. I have called his pediatrician, but came here for some advise until they get back ahold of me. How can I get him to drink milk? What’s the best kind for his other than whole cow milk? Does he NEED milk?? THANK YOU
No you don’t need milk but I would get him a. Supplement like pediasure… something to supplement the vitamins he will be missing. Milk isn’t a necessity.
I never gave any of my kids whole milk or any plant based milk for that matter.
My son did this after breastfeeding at 14 months and wouldn’t drink milk till he was like two and now at almost 7 he loves milk still. He doesn’t need it but vitamin supplements probably
No, he doesn’t, but he does need the same nutrients, so yogurt, cheese, fish with bones (sardines) broccoli are good to replace milk. Full fat, it’s good for the brain.
If he’s eating yoghurt and cheese and another high calcium products and is drinking and water then no, he doesn’t actually require milk from 12 months
I just fed mine calcium rich foods, yogurt, cheese, etc, all of mine hated drinking milk
He doesn’t actually need to drink milk cause your child should be 100% on solid foods now which is where he will be getting his vitamins, minerals and energy from.
You can give his kids multivitamins to top up the vitamin that he gets from food but don’t stress about him not drinking milk.
Use other dairy. Cheese yogurt and keep offering. Maybe warm before bed. Try cold also.
My daughter had a milk allergy when she was little and I asked the doctor what to put her on after she came off her special formula. He just said that she’s a person like the rest of us so water is fine! She would be getting everything she needed from solids anyway. So no, they don’t NEED milk at all xx
I have 3 kids. And honestly none of them like milk. 3 dairy servings a day is what they need. That can come from any source yogurt, cheese. Etc.
He doesn’t need milk. Give water and heathly foods
as long as hes eating well balanced meal the milk isn’t important. but some kids at that age are not great eaters or are taking a little longer to transition so milk helps. my girl drinks oat milk 2x a day sometimes i do ovaltine or we get the ripple pea milk if shes having a bad eatinf week. it happens, it phases.
When my son turned 1 he refused to drink milk and still does at almost 3. His ped told us to make sure to give him yogurt, cheese or even ice cream something that we can find he likes to get the calcium and vitamin D.
Milk is not necessary, we are the only mammals that drink milk after we are done nursing or bottle feeding.
We don’t drink milk my kids eat cheese and yogurt other forms of dairy
My kids have all hated milk and any alternative so I just make sure they eat a lot of cheese, yogurt and etc to make up for it.
Talk to your pediatrician and see what they recommend. My son doesn’t take milk but we have to make sure he is getting stuff with calcium to make up for it.
Milk upsets my sons stomach, but can eat dairy no problem. He loves cheese and yogurt. The pediatrician said it was fine as long as he was getting his calcium. That was when he was 1, he’s a very healthy 6 year old now. Still rarely drinks milk.
My son stopped drinking at 3 he’s 57 made it without milk
I don’t have any advice… but he does need milk daily. He needs the calcium, vitamin D, and especially the FAT in whole milk. Children under the age of 2 need fat in their diet for brain development. My son will only drink his milk warm, maybe it’s that?
Have you tried chocolate or strawberry milk? Maybe even breakfast essentials to ensure he gets the vitamins he needs.
Full fat milk is a great resource since the full fat provides the healthy fat for the developing brain and muscles. It’s also full of vitamins.
Perhaps you could look into finding foods that do the same things at the same rate to ensure he gets enough
