Good big gifts for an 8 year old?

What are some good “big” gift ideas for an 8 year old boy who already has a phone, a switch, a tv in his room and his own computer already? I’m at such a loss because he doesn’t even know what he wants

A book. The best thing you can give your child.

Books. The biggest indicator for student success is reading/ being read to at home from an early age. He’s surrounded by so much technology and will continue to be, but that doesn’t mean drowning in it. Books open up whole worlds and are some of the most precious memories. One of the best gifts we can give kids is a great education, and that starts at home. That starts with cultivating a love of reading. Not every kid will love to read, but if they don’t start early then they are far less likely to.

A gaming chair with a desk, that’s what im doing for my 7yr old son

Four wheeler, Razor electric dirt bike, go cart, bmx bike, his name in a neon light up sign for his room, could buy a game for his friend so they can play together online for the switch, accessories for the switch (extra controllers so you could play with him), a “getaway trip” like great wolf lodge or a waterpark, skiing etc

A shared trip kayaking the Whanganui River

Something outdoors. A hover board, go cart if you have the space, a bike that you can go on rides together

He is a big boy, you can ask him what he prefers.

My 7 year old wants the oculus

A gaming chair with the speakers in it if you can afford it, light rope for the room that can change colors, neon light with their name on it

I just ran across this. It can be used as a reading book too, mine would hang curtains around it

Time! Meaning spending time with him and not park him in front of the tv or pc.

How about a bicycle to work off those electronics pounds.

In ground swimming pool, trip to Disney world, basketball court in the back yard, private jet, it depends how big you want to go.
I’m not one for anything with small motors. I know too many people who have been injured or died from them. I’ve seen some pretty good comments so far but have you considered volunteering for the day together and then going and doing something fun, like going to a Christmas production?

Bike, skates, hockey net, new bedding, telescope, toboggan, snow shoes, gymnastics, table tennis, foosball, punching bag and gloves

Gift Cards or Tickets to local attractions. Amusement parks, Zoos, Ski/Snowboarding hills (depending where you’re at) Waterparks, concerts etc. Check out Groupon because you can find some really cool stuff like lazertag, paintball, go kart racing.

Gift card? Money? Or if he is into games maybe like Roblox $ or vbucks or whatever currency it takes

Maybe he doesn’t need a “big” gift…, at least not a thing.

Is there a theater performance or other event he’d like to attend? Amusement park tickets? Think about experiences he’d enjoy, rather the stuff.

No 8 year old should have a TV and gaming system in their room. Terrible idea.

Make a donation in his name to something he cares about…i.e…animal shelter or homeless shelter.

Music lessons, start as a family volunteering somewhere, invest in a sport or hobby , travel the world different country each Xmas , put $ aside for the future . They don’t need more material things they need time spent with you , start a new tradition .

How about a scooter or a bike? Or even a pogo stick. Something to get him outside away from all the electronics.

Book series, gift card for gaming, gaming merch,

Sounds like he is too spoiled already to appreciate anything.

Why do you have to give an 8 yr old a big gifts
Perhaps get him some games , dvds or things that he actually needs
You are setting yourself up for expenses that you can’t actually afford
And with each yr your child will become used to getting big expensive gifts every year

Less screen time. More physical type activities

So my son is 7 and I want to get away from electronics so this is what one of the things I’m buying for him for Christmas

Limited-time deal: JOYIN Arcade Basketball Game Set with 4 Balls and Hoop for Kids 3 to 12 Years Old Indoor Outdoor Sport Play - Easy Set Up - Air Pump Included - Ideal for Competition https://a.co/d/1y5AVCY

Books. An 8 year old needs books not video games in their room. :woman_facepalming:t2:

I’m sorry but I am baffled as to why an 8 yr old has all of the things mentioned in the first place! We are talking a third grader!

You came to the wrong place for advice about ‘big grifts’ you get judged hard for saying your kids have electronics. Like we’re back in the Stone Age. Smfh. Also you never said any gaming systems for the tv so maybe a Xbox or play station. Or maybe a small atv!

Some of these comments are ridiculous. My daughter is 9 and she has all that stuff too, she also READS and spends tons of time outside in our pool and trampoline. Just because some children have access to more things than others doesn’t mean they are spoiled or arnt deserving of it. If your broke just say that, don’t be an asshole . Most parents work hard to buy the stuff for their kids, so when someone makes and honest post about ideas how the fuck does she gift some outside time. Or great heres a book, get a grip  were in 2023 people !!

Experience gifts are the best!!! Movies, theme park etc something you can all do together!

Plan a special trip. Better memories

How about a vacation… trips and family things are memorable. Or gifts of things to do together.

Mine loves our trampoline!

Get him gift cards for y’all to do special things throughout the year. An escape room, a theme park, paint ball, an overnight hotel stay, a day of whatever he chooses. Make memories all year from Christmas gifts!

He needs an outdoor gift. Something to get him moving and grooving in the sunshine such as soccer nets and a soccer ball or a nice hoop and basketball. You could add tickets to a game.

Sports equipment, bike, camping equipment…

A scooter, or get him into bmx, my 8 year old loves it! Keeps him moving, he still loves his video games but he spends more time outside riding bikes, and scooters than games.

Science kit and a magic kit. He can learn new things.

You could get him a nice gaming chair with Bluetooth speakers built into it. Either look at Best Buy or online or a Ps5. My husband just got a Ps5 and absolutely loves it.

A steam deck… if he likes video games. It’s like a switch but it plays games that are on steam (which is like a cloud for hundreds of games on the pc) that’s if he’s a gamer that plays on a computer. Or a virtual reality headset. I thought that was so cool but it made me wanna throw up. I’m not sure if there’s an age limit on them either.

I like the recliner/ gaming chair idea. Also the lights for his room would be cool. Maybe a whole room makeover?
A gaming gift card also, a Nintendo one or one to a local game store.
A smart watch that links with his phone?
A whole book series would be nice. My grandson has all of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, and the Dogman books.

A drone that takes photos would be pretty sweet lol.

Drone, ping pong table, air hockey table, set of golf clubs, go kart, kayak or paddle board with a vest, bike…

It’s called a “backbone” and it’s a thingy where you can use your phone as a gaming controller. It’s what I’m hoping to get my son this year!

Ummm my 8 year old asked for legos :woman_shrugging:t2::joy:

He already has everything he could want. Maybe ask what he would like to gift to someone else, experience gifts. Does he code? They have summer camps for everything. Go outside the box this time.

Get him a gift card for online video games. If he uses Humble Bundle or Steam to get computer games the gift card is great for that.

My 8 yr old grandson has one of these and loves it!

A mansion? A Lamborghini?

Start a holiday tradition of volunteering at a homeless shelter or nursing home. Instill in him the joy of giving. Teach him that Christmas is not about what kind of ‘big’ gifts you can get. At 8 years old it’s not too late.

Sounds like he can use some books.

Electric scooter or motorcycle swurfer swing basketball hoop pitting net racing set up for console or computer zip lining tickets big lego set mini fridge new shoes like Jordan’s a sport team jersey

Definitely something outside to get him moving. I didn’t have all that as an adult lol

My son loves the dogman book series

How about something that would make y’all spend time together? Family vacation? Arcade day, amusement park?

A trip to an amusement park

When screens are looked at all day…of course they dont know what or even how to play on their own. Maybe remove a screen for Xmas ?

Wow, some of y’all are bossy. She asked for gift suggestions not parenting advice.

An experience. Zoo, museum, theme park.

Season pass to an amusement park. Sports tickets. Trampoline. Basketball hoop. Or just ask him what he’d like

An experience or a trip to great wolf lodge

A mini fridge for his room!! I’m dealing with the same issue lol If he is a Minecraft kid, look at the Minecraft creeper mini fridge! It’s on sale at Walmart for $45! I believe it holds up to 10 or 12 cans

He’s got a lot already. Instead of a tangible gift give him an expirence. Do you have a ninja expirence near you? My kids love it.

Get that kid some Lego’s or dart guns or action figures… something he can play OUTSIDE with.

My mother in law just bought my 9 year old daughter a graphics tablet for Christmas. Her request!

The negative comments are disgusting, if your parent/parents didn’t love you enough just say that .

Experience.
A season pass to a zoo, amusement park, museum etc.

Nugget(or nugget like) couch!

why does an 8 year old have or need all that electronic stuff to start with. get him outdoors where a child should be playing with friends.

Mine is getting an the entire lankybox x poppy playtime plush collection. For his big gift. Smaller gifts are smaller Lego sets and books and art supplies. He doesn’t need anymore or any new electronics this year haha

You could always just ask him what he wants lol

My son loves his scooter. He’s rode the wheels off 3 of them :joy:

You all must have a lot money .I have my kids volunteered in a homeless shelter so they will Know the Facts of life (and that nothing in this world is Free

A dirt bike. Get him outside. Bb gun. Bow and arrow. My son is 8 and loves his bb gun and archery stuff wishes we could afford dirt bike.

We did stuff he wanted and some things for sensory and for getting the extra energy out like the floor is lava stepping Stones he can also balance on

Something he can do with you outside. I tutor kids and one had tuition on their birthday. I bought them a unicorn pen and a large tube of candy. You’d have thought I’d have given them gold with how happy my gifts made them. The same kid wrote how much they loved going biking with their Dad. When I told the Dad, he was surprised and a little embarrassed how much it meant to them. They said they’d love a mountain bike so they could go off-road with their Dad. A drone, a bike, a scooter. Something he can do with you. In Bridgerton (novels), Francesca points out that there is something seriously wrong if a child wants to spend time with their parents - it means they don’t do it enough. Sadly most kids these days are desperate for time with their parents.

Electric scooter, dirtbike, trampoline or mountain bike.

All the comments saying “oh he has enough already” or “he doesn’t need all the technology” can suck a big toe  my son is the same. He has a ps5, switch, phone, tv, and laptop  I’m stumped. I ended up getting him his fnaf plushies he has asked for. Roblox card. Some gamer posters, some blankets And tons of new clothes. He’s a gamer in and out. And guess what? He gets straight As :exploding_head: so he deserves his technology for being so bright. It’s what he enjoys and it’s his special interest (he’s autistic)

A room makeover maybe or if he is into art a easel and paint pencils art supplies

If he got all that at 8 years old, he surely doesn’t need anything, ask him to choose a few things to give to the underprivileged.

My son absolutely loves his trampoline.

Whatever the child wants - last year my daughter wanted to upgrade her iPad so I bought her the newest version…

It depends what’s the child wants

Roller blades… skateboard. … a BOOK… after exercise he could sit and read …

He doesn’t know what he wants because he has it all already. Get the kid outside and off all those screens.

A trampoline, camping tent, a bike, scooter, skateboard, telescope… Something that is not technology.
