Has anyone else been put on Metformin to help them conceive, and did it work? If so, how long. Have a four-year-old girl and wanted one more have been trying since she was 1 1/2. If it doesn’t work by my next appointment, she wants me to try Clomid with it. was wondering other people’s experiences with them

Clomid, No! Horrible side effects. I used metformin for 2 of mine and then discovered pregnitude. Best decision i ever made. Conceived within 1 cycle on it. Also upping your vitamin D intake.

I used Clomid and it worked for me I only had to take it for 2 months I had irregular periods and enodmetreosis I have not used Metformin
I got put on Metformin after being labeled as ”Gestational diabetic”, only to find out that I did not need it, because I was not. Being on the medication did give me was HELLP SYNDROME (VERY BAD), so just be careful when it comes to the need of it.
Isn’t that medicine used for diabetes? 
I was told I would probably never have children. I was put on it for type 2 diabetes in 2010 and was shocked to find at the begining of 2011 I was pregnant. I never took it to conceive…only to control diabetes…but I’m a mom of 3 now.

Fun fact. I’m type 1 diabetic and was on the birth control pill. I got put on metformin to help bring down my A1c and it counteracted my BC and now I have a 3 year old daughter! Lol

Clomid sucks, ask for letrozole. Letrozole gives you a higher success rate, I had a hard time with metformin since it’s so harsh on your stomach. Basically have to eat a diabetic diet (no sugars, carbs etc) in order for it to not give you the side effects.

I was given Clomid because I couldnt get pregnant because of my PCOS and it didnt work. I took metformin for 3 months because my sugars were not controlled because of the PCOS and ended up pregnant. I have a handsome 10yr old boy now 
Clomid works by itself,I took it and got pregnant 6 months later,I had no side effects at all
I was on metformin for a just under a year before I got pregnant. The first 2 months were the worst cause I lived in the bathroom from stomach issues. But it did eventually work.

Why would they put u on a medication for diabetes to help u get pregnant?? That medication has side effects. U need to do ur research.

Neither worked for me. I hope you have success.

What I know about Metformin it is a drug use to lower blood sugar for type 2 diabetes and to some people it has side effects on kidneys, liver and heart so be careful.
Listen to your doctor…he or she is probably prescribing you meds based on your medical history and health to which none of know…what worked for someone else may not work for you…I suggest not to stress too much about it and enjoy trying

Metformin can actually kill a fetus. Dunno who put you on it but they must not be paying attention. As metformin is for diabetes not conceiving.

Metformin is for Diabetes and not for conceiving, you have been duped unless you’re diabetic. Sounds like you need a new doctor, run, don’t walk.

Interesting topic. Ive been diagnosed with unexplained secondary infertility. Havent been able to get pregnant since 2004. Was prescribed clomid. Never picked it up so never tried it.
4 months metformin, followed insulin resistance diet added vit d3 and she’s turning 15 next month!!

Metformin is commonly used to help regulate blood sugar levels but it can also help with PCOS I’m not sure why it would help you to conceive. I’m pretty sure there are other medications for that such as fertility drugs and shots…
Yes! After trying for 2 years with no luck. metformin worked so well to treat my pcos for me right away, within a month or 2 of me taking it i was pregnant. I have 3 babies because of metformin alone. Its important to stop taking it as soon as you find out you are pregnant though.
I was, they put me on Metformin before my first dose of Clomid. Unfortunately after SEVERAL cycles it did not work for me. We ended up conceiving naturally after I was put on Phentermine to lose weight and balance my PCOS. After trying to have a baby for over 6 years and 3 specialists I was pregnant within 6 months of losing the weight.
Metformin cause my sister to go into preterm labor and stressed the baby causing an emergency c section. I’d never think about taking it to conceive or while pregnant. It almost killed my niece.

Metformin isn’t used to conceive. If you were given metformin then you most likely have PCOS. I have it and I’m taking metformin and progesterone. Metformin is used to reduce the amount of insulin in your ovaries which is what cause PCOS. I am not currently trying to conceive but it is good to regulate your periods.

I was on clomid from the beginning. After we got the dose right I was pregnant in less than three months.

Ive never heard of it for that, I was on it to regulate the amount of insulin my pancreas was making. It was over producing… I dropped a lot of weight while on it also.
My hubby takes Metformin because he’s pre- diabetic…

I was on Metformin for three years and nothing happened. My new Doctors she put me on Clomid and I conceived a couple of weeks later. With my second and third pregnancy it happen by itself.
I took clomid and metformin. Had my first child after three doses and the conveived twins a year later from one dose of clomid and metformin. It is used to help regulate PCOS when trying to conceive
I didn’t take metformin. My reproductive endocrinologist gave me Clomid and Ovidril before doing an IUI. The combination of the two usually helps women conceive unless there is another underlying problem. Baby dust.
I used clomid to get pregnant both times. Only needed one regimen each time. Never given an option for metformin. Good luck!

I was put on metformin and clomid . I moved shortly after beig put on it and my meds were changed.
My ex sister in law was on Metformin and was trying to conceive and no luck also. She was placed on Clomid and conceived. This was 17 years ago.
yes my daughter has PCOS and that’s what she was on Metformin and Clomid and got pregnant like within 2 months

Don’t understand a doctor putting someone on Metformin to conceive. My doctor required me to know not to ever try to get pregnant once I was on it for blood sugar.
I did both for 6 months no luck. I had iui. Got pregnant 2nd round. That was 15 yrs ago. Whats ur A1C??
I also took clomid…I also was already on metformin for years… after I started clomid 1st pregnancy in 1 month after I started …2nd in 4 months after I started again…
After 17 years im 10 weeks pregnant. Been taking Menformin for a about 3 years. Last year I lost a good bit of weight
I have pcos. Been on metformin since 2011 cause of the pcos. I am also on clomid. Been on clomid for 11 months now
I filed for adoption after 7 years of “trying”.Two weeks after receiving notice that we were “officially on the list” I conceived!

It didn’t work for us After we tried it I was diagnosed with endometriosis with an endometeroma. I had to have a hysterectomy
I was given metformin because of pcos and I wanted to conceive and I got a positive pregnancy test a month after starting it
I was put on it because of cysts on my overies but I got pregnant two months after I got put on it
Metformin has cancer causing agents in it

My cousin takes metformin for fertility but she also has pcos… n she has like 5 or 6 kids… But I know she on birth control now because she super fertile without it. So it seems to work well for women with pcos… Idk if it’s the metformin or she just extremely lucky… N has her pcos pretty well managed
Yessss, I have pcos as well and took metformin & clomid to help us conceive our first! Clomid made me crazy hormone wise. Metformin, lets just say I hope you enjoy being in the bathroom a lot. 
Took clomid, metformin, and progesterone 3 rounds, (3 months) lost 20lbs then quit all meds all together( except prenatals) for 1 month and got pregnant after not having luck for 5 years prior to starting the regimen.
With our second baby, our doctor told us to try naturally for 6 months then we would start our regimen again. Got my birth control took out last January and was pregnant in March on our own and had our second miracle baby in December! We were told we’d never have kids on our own, so I know how you feel. Yes I was diagnosed with pcos and put on metformin. It helped regulate my cycle but I had to also take clomid bc I wasn’t ovulating. 2nd round of clomid did the trick and we now have a 2.5 year old.
Also, My OB just told me that they now have a clomid alternative drug that does same thing without the side effects like mood swings etc.

U must have pcos?! I have pcos and take metformin to help me get a period (it helps sugar levels stay low and in return helping ovulation, but it’s really a drug used for diabetes. I have known a few people to take it to help them regulate and hopefully become pregnant. Some people swear by it. My friend tried clomid for 4 months it never worked for her. I had 2 kids previous marriage I was 18 & 20 had no issues conceiving. No symptoms of pcos either. I started gaining weight at 25 128-160 never thought anything of it. Divorced got remarried an stopped bc… Periods were 2 weeks late an finally stopped went to a dr said I had pcos due to my testosterone levels. Metformin made me use the bathroom 24/7. I had other test dome before put on Clomid. When starting clomid I started exercising an went on low carb diet lost 25 p in 3 months was on my last round an I now have a 10 month old baby Girl 
. After having her had bw done all my levels r fine!
I used it with Clomid and Ovadril. I now have a beautiful 12 year old daughter. Best of luck.
I hated Metformin for managing my pcos… Gave me horrible stomach issues. Losing weight helped me.
Clomid made me crazy. My emotions were all over the place. My husband also took it. We eventually had to do IVF to conceive
I took clomid and metformin, took around 9 months. I have PCOS so I was already on metformin.
Mine worked the first month but it does make your hormones crazy no one could stand to be around me while i was on if
A lot of women are extremely successful getting pregnant within the first 6 months of starting a keto diet.
Most of them have PCOS I have experienced metformin in the keto pregnancy group
No metmorphmin but my husband took clomid and I took progesterone and ta da! 3 months later! Good luck!!!
