Has anyone had this infection while pregnant?

I’m 37 weeks pregnant with my Second girl. I’ve been dealing with a really bad body rash for the past 2 months. My OB and Primary kept telling me to use over the counter creams to help it. (no other info was given on rash). Today I just went to my checkup appointment and the rash has gotten way worse and they just tested me with cholestasis infection. Has anyone else had this while pregnant? They are now inducing me a week from today due to it causing birth defects or still birth.

How is your blood pressure? Mine started to go up toward the end and my legs wouldn’t stop itching!!

You are 37 weeks pregnant which is far enough along. Why wouldn’t they do it now instead of waiting any longer? :pensive:

Yes, but not cholestasis. Nothing helped but I later found out I was allergic to scents and dyes. Sarna or Eucerine then cera ve healing ointment on top. Good luck with everything, praying for you and your little one💕

They tested u for that or they diagnosed you with it? I’m confused. I just googled that condition and it said you wouldn’t have a rash with that condition, just severe itching… your hormones can make you suddenly allergic to products like body wash, lotions, laundry detergent etc… happened to me when I was pregnant with my daughter.

Please fight to be induced now, too many risks to wait another week!

You might have PUPPS. Its a late pregnancy rash that goes away once you have baby.

Its a liver problem. The bile leaks through your blood and that’s why you itch like mad! I’ve had it twice. Induced both times.
It’s good it’s been found x

I had it, but I didn’t have a rash. I’d scratch myself so much that I’d be bleeding constantly.

Omg how terrible !! I had it only with my firstborn. But not my second child. Hope everything will be okay

I had it induced at 38 weeks everything was fine dont worry to much about it .

Ask about pupps syndrome

I had it with all three of my pregnancy. I never had a rash just super severe itching!! It was way worse with my daughter because of hormones.

Ive gotten a rash for 2 pregnancies and only thing that helped was a higher strength hydrocortisone that you can only get by prescribed. They labeled it pupps but they don’t know what it is really. I was told now that I’ve had the rash with these 2 ill probably always get the rash while pregnant. The first te having it I felt myself get better as soon as soon as I pushed baby out. The second time it took a few weeks. Probably because I had a csection.

I had Pupps I think that’s how it’s spelt from my late 2nd trimester all the way until after delivery itchy rash from belly to toes nothing helped

Yes! I had cholestasis and I ended up getting very sick. It then turned into preeclampsia. Once my doctors caught it, I had to deliver my daughter at 29 weeks. She spent 8 weeks in the NICU. She’s 12 years old now and healthy as can be. You definitely want to deliver as soon as you safely can. It will make you very very sick.

Look into PUPPPS (and acronym for the official name). Typically women have it that are carrying boys, although that isn’t a rule. I had it with my son. It is the worst itch EVER. Nothing touched it.

I had cholestasis and was induced at 37 weeks. It was horrible. The itch was constant. I kept telling them I thought I had it but they brushed it off at PUPPS and all this other stuff bc it wasn’t just on my hands and soles of my feet. It was literally everywhere and it absolutely sucked! They finally tested me and was like, oh yeah, you do have cholestasis. :woman_facepalming: so they induced and my lo had jaundice very bad. He needed a billy bed at home and stayed in it and had to have liver tests to make sure he was good. Lots of blood samples, but eventually, it flushed out of his system and he is a smart healthy 13 month old baby! My prayers are with you and your baby. My rash went away almost 2-3 days after he was born.

I did its called pupps I had to wait til delivery (it gets worse) but afterwards I was able to use natural solutions to rid myself of it I took dandelion root capsules 3 times a day drank stinging nettle tea twice a day and used tar soap when washing my body within a week I was better and I suffered the last trimester and 2 weeks PP

Ps. My drs told me to just use a steroid cream as well and nothing worked I felt like a leper I had a itchy visible rash everywhere!

Yes I had experienced this it was so bad. Itching on my feet and back and mostly at night more than anything.

It can cause early labour, that’s exactly what happened to me.
My son came at 7 months.

Cholestasis isn’t a infection. It’s a issue with your liver where it creates too much bile acid and leads to a rash and also can cause intrauterine growth restriction, meaning it stops the baby from growing further. I’ve had it, it SUCKS. But it is best to be induced early in most cases. They likely didn’t think it was cholestasis at first because of how far along you were originally (I had the same issue when I had it). I ended up having my son at 35 weeks. He was perfectly healthy though, just small.

What kind of infection is it sorry not familiar with it and what does the rash look like? Just wondering because I’m 32 almost 33 wks and have been itching like crazy

I had it all 3 pregnancies

Yes, I had cholestasis with my second pregnancy. I didn’t have a rash, but I was SO itchy, but I chalked it up to dry skin due to the winter weather. I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 36 weeks and was induced at 37 weeks.

I had cholestasis with my first and was induced at 38 weeks and my daughter is a rambunctious 3 year old now!

I had cholestatis both of my pregnancies. My first we didn’t find it until I was 37 weeks my second I went into premature labor and delivered at 31 weeks due to the cholestatis killing my placenta. It’s a very serious liver condition in pregnancy. I’m glad they caught it. Be prepared to deliver before next week though

I had this with all 3 of my boys now pregnant with a girl and I’ve had bloods done and haven’t got it yet. Its a liver disease that causes the itching, I used calamine lotion with mine. The itching is horrendous, they usually prescribe antihistamine. And should start you on medication to bring the bile acid level down. They also induce you at 37 weeks but could be earlier depending on the level of bile acids xx

I had a similar problem but with me it was more of the itchiness and they had to do a lot of blood work because they had told me it was the cholestasis too and they were about to induce me because apparently it’s a better option since it can affect the baby

I had that too! Also pregnant with my third (2nd daughter) and I was diagnosed with PUPPS. I used a steroid cream and Zyrtec and it went away in days. My ob did all kinds of blood work to rule out cholestasis. I’m so glad you said something. Good luck next week mama!!:heart:

No advice. Just hugs hun

Are you pregnant with a boy?

I had a rash and welts 35!years ago all of staff treating me with gloves :gloves: while I was in hospital 5 days before my daughter was born Chief of staff of entire hospital comes in with at least 10-12 staff members nurses doctors interns and he looked a round and said your the reason this is classic nerves it disappeared the day after she was delivered

I didn’t have a rash during pregnancy, my husband did! I was terrified I would catch it. He went to dermatologist and it was
Pityorysasis rosea! Dr. Said it wouldn’t hurt me or baby! Also said once you have it, you never get it again! Wrong he broke out 2-3 times!

They should of diagnosed and treated the rash way earlier. Creams aren’t going to help. Hope you and baby are feeling better soon

I thought cholestasis doesn’t have a rash? Just mainly intense itching and some other less common side effects. I had cholestasis with my last pregnancy, and I’m pretty sure I have it again. I ended up being induced at 36 weeks because the medicine wasn’t working. The itching should go away pretty soon after delivery and you and baby should be great! Goo luck momma!

It’s likely PUPPS. It’s supposed to go away once you deliver, but it doesn’t always. My SIL had it do bad during her last pregnancy. It lasted way passed delivery. She even has scars from it.

Cholestasis is a liver disorder where in bile salts that are not being filtered out of the liver deposit under the skin causing intense itching. Pupps is something different related to weight gain and often starts in the areas of stretch marks. Both can make you miserable. Cholestasis is a far more worrisome condition and consult your doctor with questions.

I had a friend who had it and they induced her right away basically

PUPPS and choleostasis of pregnancy are very different. I had the second with my third. It does have the risk factors after 37 weeks, but it goes away almost immediately after you give birth.

The rash is miserable and NOTHING helps—not even the oral medication helped me much.

Best wishes for you and your little one!

I also developed a rash that they associated with Choleostadis. They could never confirm it, but induced me a week early. As soon as she was out the rash went away

I had Cholestasis and had to have a C-section three weeks early.
The itching was horrible there wasn’t a rash for me though but all itching almost stopped right away after birth .

I got a rash when I was pregnant with my son. I believe they called it pups. I was allergic to my son :joy:. I had to take prednisone and then they weeded me off it the closer I got to delivery. I also had it when I was pregnant with my daughter but the rash was only on my forearm and wasn’t as bad

I had a rash with my last. They called is pups or prups. It was aggravated by the cocoa butter cream i was using. Stopped the cream and it was gone in about a month

No, but with all 3 of mine, I developed a rash that went away as soon as I delivered— dr said I must be allergic to pregnancy! This was in late 70’s!!

My sister had a rash but hers was with a boy. Guess thats common? I wonder if it could be something like that?

My daughter had this and all her babies were induced early and they were fine her condition caused severe itching

I had it with both of my kids. You will be fine after you deliver. Its more important to deliver the baby before 37 weeks or ur levels can’t be controlled. Both were early but generally healthy

I had what I believed was called pups or something like that it was kinda like chicken pox they said it was rare about2-3 months after giving birth it went away

I had it with my fourth child it wont go away until after you give birth i had in my whole body except my face it can get very itchy

My wife had a horrible rash which looked like hundreds of very large green pustuled pimples. Turned out to be a bacterial infection that had infected her nervous system and spread through her upper torso. Antibiotics helped.

Pupps is way different then cholestasis. Basically ones a begnin rash that’s annoying and the other is your liver isn’t able to process the bile build up and cause serious problems for baby if left untreated. My sister had it with her last baby and she was induced 3 weeks early. She was a little peanut but super healthy!! The itching and the rash went away about a month after.

I have Excema and I use Eucerin for itching. You will need to apply several times a day at the beginning.

I developed a rash over my whole body when I was 7 months pregnant with my son. My OB told me it was because I was allergic to his hormones. The rash did not go away until two months after I had him. There was nothing they could prescribe for me. The only think that gave me some relief from the itching was a cool bath and Sarna lotion. It has a numbing agent in it. I was miserable. I hope it clears up for you soon!

I got a rash when I was recovering from a c-section and changed my body soap to Aveeno lavender, it was because my body was going through hormonal changes and my body started to react to a soap I had been using for a while. Just a thought, hope it may help.

I had it with my son. From my neck down. Soaked in oatmeal baths. Applied RX cream. It was horrible. I had the rash along with hives for about 6 weeks.

As soon as my dr. Thought it was a possibility ofe having it she had me induced that day at 37 weeks without even testing just to be safe

I had it very bad with my first child, delivered early and it literally went away within 3 days

I had cholestasis of pregnancy with my 1st which was a rash something with the liver

It’s called papas rash. It’s what I had and the only way to get rid of it is not be pregnant. They induced me 2 1/2 weeks early

I had PUPPS. There is really nothing they can do, but it’s miserable.

It may be something you are eating that never bothered you before. Dairy alway did it to me.

I had a rash for a couple weeks but it went away. I used cortisone 10 and calamine lotion but I also have psoriasis so it only stayed on my leg

The medications helped but seems like ur already due

I had it and it will go away about 6 weeks after delivery it itches like crazy.

My sister in law who was pregnant with twins she went thru this . She was scratching all over. But as soon as she had the twins she got better.

It’s a common pregnancy rash called PUPPS. My sister had it with her 1st pregnancy. It will go away after you have baby.

I’ve never had that; but maybe CLR the shower head down? And hopefully it will hurt less in time

It’s called pupps it is common in pregnancy I had it with my son

My sister had it. Not much they can do for it except have the baby be born.

Sometime its kidneys or liver…

My granddaughter’s mother had cholestasis of the liver so severe that the doctor told her he had never met anyone who is liver function was in the thousands. Our granddaughter was scheduled to be delivered at 37 weeks but she naturally went into labor the day of induction and had her naturally. However, our baby did end up with some delays in her milestones and is autistic. I don’t understand how they let you go so long without testing you for that we found out when she was fourMonths pregnant because of the rash and itching

If can effect your baby why are they waiting a week

Sounds like drs didnt take it serious at first?

I had an itchy rash when carrying my twins. Dr. told me that my body was allergic to my pregnancy. Upon delivery it went away.

I had something when i was pregnant with my oldest child called Pemphigoid Gestationis. My entire body broke out in what looked like hives that would itch terribly and then turn painful. I had them everywhere. Even on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet. My OBGYN had never seen a case of it in the town i live in. Its very rare. I also had a secondary staph infection from itching and causing so many open wounds. It was absolutely miserable. They put me on a medicine called prednisone which completely cleared up the rash and stopped the itching. However the side effects if that drug were immense weight gain and mood disorders. I developed postpartum depression and anxiety and i gained over 100 pounds. Ask your doctor if theyve ever heard of Pemphigoid Gestationis. Do some google searching. See if it applies to you. Its so rare that it took months for my doctors to stop saying it was just PUPPS. It is NOT just pupps its far worse. I know how miserable it is. Push for answers. Suggest possibilities. Ask them to do a biopsy of one of the bumps and get a diagnosis.

My sister in law had it twice and they delivered her early both times

Grandpa’s bar soap helps

My daughter had PUPS, sounds like what you are describing

sounds like they are doing what they need to do. Prayers for you

prayers being sent to Heaven above for you and your unborn baby.

I had it , it was bad

I had it was my son too

I had it with my son.

Yesss me… It’s horrible and itchy

Cholestasis is not an infection. I am 35 weeks and have it. I don’t have a rash but some people get one it can cause still birth so you will probably see a high risk ob and they will not let you go past 37 weeks they will induce you.

Get rid of the quack

Samantha Crim, isn’t this what you had?

I had ring worm . was tild to put breast milk on it. Cleared it right up. May be something to try

Please take it seriously and consult with your OB Dr. I had this with my third pregnancy.I told the Nurse Practitioner I was having serious issues with itching. She blew me off. My baby girl died at 36 weeks. All she needed was a blood transfusion and to deliver her. With my next 2 children, they delivered early to avoid another loss.

I had very bad rashes with my son as well but not infection just my skin was super sensitive to everything because of pregnancy only went away after giving birth

I had it extremely bad! I was pregnant with twins. It was so severe I was scratching and making myself bleed. They delivered me early as it was that severe.

I developed a rash in 2nd trimester with one of my 5 pregnancies. It was a purple web like crash. Started on my belly in the morning, by the time I saw my Dr that afternoon it was everywhere. Itched like crazy… He put me on a 2nd allergy med and it cleared up. I had to take it until my daughter was born.

I’ll be praying for y’all
