Has anyone taken anti-depressants while pregnant?

Has anyone taken any anti depressants while pregnant? I know there’s safer meds you can take but I’ve always been ify about it. I’m just at a point now where my depression is so bad I think I might need some meds to help me manage. Can I get all the experiences with meds while pregnant, the good, the bad and the ugly. Thank you ladies!!

Yes, throughout my entire pregnancy. I had no negative effects, only positive. My mood was much better.

I have taken antidepressants thru each of my pregnancies. The hormones really affected my mental health. I was nervous about it too with my first - there’s a lot of misinformation out there. It is so so common for women to have mood affected in pregnancy and need extra help. I have 3 very healthy and happy kids who also have a healthy and happy mum!

I personally never took antidepressants pregnant however with my last baby I got really bad postpartum. I never experienced anything like that before, I just want to say in order for our babies to be ok, we as their mama’s have to be ok. Some people are really against medication some people don’t understand depression. Mental health is so important and your body is doing so much growing your bundle of joy talk to your dr, research and whatever one you decide to take you take. Do what’s best for you. Sending love and positive vibes, remember to take care of YOU. If we don’t take care of ourselves we can’t take care of our babies. Best of luck 🫶🏻

Yes! I did with my son who is now 5. Nothing negative to say they saved me. My mental health during pregnancy was so bad and I tried to hold off as long as I could.

I took Prozac throughout my third trimester with one of my children. No noticeable effect beyond me suddenly wanting to exist.

The question is will the benefits of the meds outweigh the risks. I have been on Anti-Depressants for 10 years plus. If it weren’t for them I don’t know where I’d be. I don’t Iike it, I hate the thought hid having to take a pill to be normal but my brain does not make happy feelings like other peoples. I had 2 successful 38 week and 39 week pregnancies on my meds. No way I was coming off them after I was pregnant because baby and I would probably withdraw. My doctor was perfectly fine with it. I was considered high risk and had to do more frequent check ups and ultrasounds to make sure baby was growing properly. Never one problem. Except when I got to the hospital. I feel they weren’t as open minded and kind of judged me. My babies were 6lbs 15 oz and 7lbs 5 oz and I was 125 pds pre pregnancy. I will say that I wish there was another option, more natural. I would say if I got pregnant again I would do it the same. I was and am a much better person with the help of medication. My kids are all happy, heathy and have never had any issues. Some of us can say I’d rather just be alittle sad and not take the meds but there are those of us who would be extremely sad, depressed, exhausted, irritable etc and there’s nothing wrong with get that the help you need.

We have to take care of ourselves to be able to take care of our babies. Mental Health for us IS SO IMPORTANT.

I did for my first two pregnancies and I was on ALOT of them. Drs assured me the benefits outweighed the risks. Mind you I had to take higher doses of folic acid throughout my entire pregnancy as well as prenatal vitamins and supplements but I managed quite well and both my kids where born healthy. I’m now pregnant with twins and haven’t been on any medication for 3 years and doing well. My advice is listen to your doctor and do your own research as well.

I did with my kids and they turned out just fine it’s the best thing I did for myself.

My psych switched all my meds when I was pregnant. I took zoloft and lamotrigine while pregnant. Baby was born on the 6th and has had no issues.

If you need something for your mental health, reach out to your OB/GYN. Also if you see a psychiatrist let them know. They will know what is the safest for you to take to protect your baby.

Please don’t suffer with your mental health being compromised.

Sending love , joy :face_holding_back_tears: peace :peace_symbol: and serenity :bouquet: to you that the baby!

I took zoloft all through my pregnancies and breastfeeding, no issues

Yes I carried on using antidepressants while pregnant. All was fine.

This is really a question for the right medical professionals. Discuss it with your psychiatrist and your OB. You need to know the current science, not anecdotes.

After discussing the side effects of multiple medicines on the baby with my psychiatrist I chose not to. Baby could have with drawl symptoms, growth problems, shakes etc and there are not enough human studies done on pregnant women to say it’s actually safe. They have the selling point of does the benefits out weight the risks and no amount of happiness, motivation or being okay was gonna have me put my child’s health in jeopardy. I bucked it up and just pray every day until I can take them again. This pregnancy has been really hard. I am incredibly stressed and unregulated but I feel like I don’t have any other option. I can’t make my baby have these side effects of possible growth deficits for it.
