I hesitate to consider any surgical intervention myself.
I would not have gastric bypass. Three of the five people close to me who have had gastric bypass ended up having permanent health problems. One, Cassandra (a vibrant mom of two in her early 30s), passed away a few years after gastric bypass from complications related to her surgery. Both of the two others have had a myriad of issues including severe nutrient deficiency and crohns . Specifically blood ferritin (iron) levels requiring frequent IV infusions. Of the other two, K, is doing well and seeing great results while B has hit a plateau and returned to her unhealthy habits.
The one friend I know who had the sleeve did not suffer complications from it although her weight loss was slower and she felt the surgery was not effective enough to be worth it.
I found excellent results with Adipex a few years ago, dropping from 240lbs to 134.5 (Iām 5ā6"). I kept it off until my lupus diagnosis and symptoms required me to take steroids. Iām currently working on losing the weight without meds but I plan to ask my internist to give me another prescription. Going on my own Iāve dropped from 235 to 211 since February and have been struggling to lose any further. IMO, surgery is a LAST resort I would prefer to avoid. Adipex (phentermine) is less risky and works well.

I have. 6 months ago I got the sleeve, itās a little Lengthy but most insurances require that. You meet with the Dr for a few months different drs, I didnāt have to do a sleep study because I already had a cpap and I had a psychiatric evaluation and continued to see the Dr. I started in Oct last year had surgery in March. Iāve lost almost 90 lbs altogether! And research both I was so dry on the bypass but ended up with the sleeve my Dr said he would do both and he was amazing throughout the process. I see him tomorrow for a flipping hernia repair surgery! (have had this hernia for 3 years now, umbilical)
Also! Join Facebook groups, there are so many for general or specific surgeries too!
Hands down best decision I made, and there are so many mamas hwo say that the Dr says they canāt have babies and after surgery they do, not all but! (=
I had it in 2018 and it was the best decision I ever made. My diabetes is in remission and I am much healthier.
A friend of mine did and she looks amazing.
A friend did this. So far in 1 year she is down 135lbs. But itās still hard work. Thereās a HUGE food change that has to happen or youāll literally make yourself sick, she also works out a minimum of 5 days/week.
I also have pcos and had the gastric sleeve done last year. Itās has helped Tremendously with pcos, weight loss, and infertility. I was told the sleeve is a safer Choice than the bypass.

Has anyone here ever tried the HCG shots? Wondering if they actually work or if itās another scam.
A lot of women I know with PCOS have tried KETO and PALEO as option before surgery hope it helps
Kelsey Penstone Thought of you and your experience, maybe you could tell her your story and she can decide.
Having pcos is hard to lose the weight mainly due to insulin resistance, try using myo inisitol, it can help on a cellular level to regulate hormones and insulin resistance levels.
Have you considered a more intense calorie deficit?
Truly, gastric bypass is just an invasive way to force your body to eat less. Thatās all it does, you still have to put in the mental and physical work. So
If youāve tried calorie deficits and it hasnāt worked, that means you probably didnāt do enough of a deficit for your body to burn that fat. And truly that surgery is purely to give you that same outcome of eating less. So if youāre able to try and do a more intense calorie deficit on your own, you may be able to avoid the cost and pain of surgery!

I wish you the best, if it were me though I would look more into nonsurgical ways. Stress levels, chemical imbalances, there are so many things that could be the factor in why you canāt lose weight. Chiropractor and aligning your body can help a lot. Tae bo helps me so much. It tones and gains flexibility. I lost 14 pounds the first month without changing my diet anyā¦ Then it slowed down but I gained muscle and muscle memory kicked in also bc I used to be very fit. But all of our bodies are different. As long as you feel good and fit, and are putting good things in your body i wouldnāt go by a doctors term of obese. Unless youāre having serious issues from the weight. But itās all up to you and what makes you feel better. I wish the best for you!

I have PCOS and was made to do a low carb diet during my last pregnancy last year due to gestational diabetes and I lost a bunch of weight even pregnant! It was 45g a meal 15g a snack 3 meals 2 snacks a day is what I was allowed. Maybe thatās something you could try! It actually wasnāt too bad
Look up The Trim Healthy Mama eating plan. So good for your body!
Iām waiting 4 years now there is a huge wait list
I had the gastric sleeve and I almost died. Spent the next year in the hospital having more surgeries unable to eat or drink ANYTHING at all without getting violently ill and even went blind for about a week without the dr even bothering to test my vitamin levels until we told him to. I lost 180 lbs in one year and could t walk by the time the year was over.

TOTALLY recommend gastric sleeve,But with that being said research the doctors find one with high success and high ratings. I had it done almost 10 years ago and not a day of regret I lost around 140 pounds and have kept it off. It is difficult and a daily decission to ear less and be concious of how much your eating or you will gain it all back and sometimes more

I have worked with people that had the bypass done. Some came out good but some had bad problems. One lady had problems with digestion and keeping up vitamins and minerals out of the food she ate. Kept getting cyst in her stomach which required surgery. Almost died from complications. I would not recommend surgery. Choose the sleeve or other measures to loose weight
Iām 31 and in the same boat, Iām the biggest Iāve ever been and nothing seems to work with losing weight I have PCOS as well and a thyroid condition.

My dr refuses to sign off to let me have it done even though I meet the requirements. However, Iāve also done my research. Here are some tips.
If your BMI is less than 40 most gastroenterologists will not do gastro-bypass surgery on you. Unless itās recommended by your doctor due to other underlying issues (asthma, ibs, diabetes etc). I also recommend making sure your insurance will pay for it because some Insurances will consider it cosmetic surgery if thereās no previous medical condition to have it done.
I had gastric bypass 2 years ago. Lost 150 pounds and maintaining so far! It was the best thing I ever did for myself.

I had gastric bypass, my sister had the sleeve. She lost 95 lbs and gain everything back. I know many, many people with gastric sleeve who have had the same results as her. The gastric bypass xy surgery was an extremely long healing process. I lost over 200 lbs in 6 yrs, which is slow for most people who receive the bypass. My doctor says it is why I have manage to keep it off other than the forty I gained after my pregnancy. That forty I now battle with up and down. Mine is one of the few success stories . Iāve heard of way to many obesity stories end in tragedy after the gastric bypass. One thing I always regret was that I loved food and now I miss out on that chance to really enjoy. Even for a day because you become tragically ill. You always feel sick even after eighteen yrs when eating. Especially know when the world evolves around eating. Birthday dinners, family holidays, Job celebrations. Letās meet for drinks. Letās grab lunch. Its a fact! A simple water fills you. My suggestion is to think long and hard. Is your life at risk with out it, can I not have children without it, I canāt stand everyday life? Donāt take a chance if you donāt have too. Gastric Sleeve is always the safer, better alternative just remember you still have to put in the work and keep that life style forever. But you can cheat once in awhile! Goodluck to you.

Try Optavia diet plan. Look it up on google. A lot of people loosing
I had the gastric sleeve. I feel it is the best option.
Try the Trim Healthy Mama way of eating. I rented some of their cookbooks from the library to see if I liked the idea of it first, and I ended up buying them all. They have their own line of ingredients, but also give you alternatives in the beginning of the book if you donāt want to use any special ingredients or are on a budget. I have been following this plan very loosely, like one meal a day if that, and Iām still losing sizes while pregnant. I have seen amazing success stories from others who are fully committed. You donāt cut much out except for pop, white flour, sugar(I still have these on occasion), so it seems more realistic than an actual diet(at least for me). The idea of the plan is to separate your carbs and fats at different meals to keep your metabolism going. They also stress to take measurements instead of relying on the scale, as your body will start to balance out. This isnāt anything like adkins or weightwatchers, no mlm. They also have groups on fb where thereās always people willing to answer questions.
Edit to add: there are plenty of women with pcos on the main trim healthy mama facebook page. I am not informed enough on the condition, but they have mentioned that their symptoms seen to be better with this way of eating.
I considered the bypass but got the gastric sleeve March 2019 I went to pompeii surgical in TJ Mexico paid 4800 10 out of 10 recommendā¦ I was 407 lbs im 5 ft 10 and pcos was sooo bad I had just become type 2 diabetic BP out of control and pretty sure I had undiagnosed sleep apnea ā¦ got the sleeve and have never looked back I tried to conceive for 10 years got pregnant 8 months post op after losing my first 120 lbs and now Iām currently 24 weeks with my second baby Iāve lost 180 ish lbs alot of the weight I have left is skin thay needs to be removed.
Feel free to follow me on IG to see the entire transformation ā¦ but Iām 228 now reversed my pcos no longer have hbp and Iām in the best shape Iāve ever been in and I tried everything before all the pills all the diets the gym ā¦ anyone that has pcos knows excercise donāt work with us our body chemistry doesnāt lose weight from diet and excercise ā¦ and surgery is not easy by no means you will 100% have to change your lifestyle its a tool and nothing more because you can absolutely go back to eating like crap or eating to much and regain .

I worked at a gastric bypass doctor office. Here are some things I learned. If the type of surgery you have does not remove the flexum from your stomach then it is possible for your stomach too get as big as it is now. The flexum allows the stomach to stretch. I suggest the Wood-Sapalla surgery. Your stomach will be the size of a grape (not a lemon) and stay there. In addition, you will need to take supplements for the rest of your life for nutrients and vitamins because you wonāt get any from the food you eat. Eat slowly and you wonāt get sick when you eat. I was told by a patient that she put down her fork or spoon between bites and took her hand off. Then picked it up again for the next bite. Good luck to you.

I would look into what is keeping the weight on. Are you insulin resistant? If so cut out starches and look into metformin or inositol supplements. I had a lot of weight loss with it along with cutting out starches

My momma had the bypass. She did very well with it. Iām currently obese and I have a consultation with a specialist for a weight loss surgery next week. Iām not sure if Iāll get the bypass or the sleeve.
I canāt imagine that a gastric bypass would be very effective if you have PCOS, I would be discussing with the doctor how to treat this first.
Iām in a group called Weight loss surgery support group for women here in fb, they are awesome and every question Iāve had someone has been able to answer

Def try all these different ideas, try to find a trainer that is well versed in women with pcos and possibly a nutritionist to give you the best chance. I think the surgery is def a great option but itās surgery and is a permanent option if you arenāt ready for everything that accompanies that.
To the creator of this post if you see this private message me! I have pcos and Iāve had gastric bypass surgery. I can help you with your questions
My husband started going through the process last year in August. He saw Dr Belafonte here in Charlotte. From what he was told he had a couple of options. The first was to take a medicine that suppresses his appetite. The second was a sleeve. The third they said would be almost at like a last resort if he wanted to was the gastric bypass. He has prior issues with anesthesia so he opted for the medicine. I will not lie in the first 60 days he dropped right around 25 30 lb. The only issue with the medicine is that you have to start taking vitamins along with it.
Saying all that it is a big decision and one that I suggest that you research talk to as many people as you can find out how their experiences were.
Also youāre going to need a support person no matter which option you end up choosing. His doctor told him that is the biggest thing is to have somebody that you can talk to about the stuff that will help you get you up exercising eating right.
Omg best choice I made I was 369 i had gastric bypass I now weigh 199 cant seem to get to 160 which is what I wantā¦but I donāt regret it I had no problemsā¦Iām 55 had mine in 2013
I have not had it dome but it has been an option for me also I know we have to be 100 pounds over weight to even be considered for It but I recommend using a powder I found itās called smoo and itās geared towards women like us and itās really good
Many women with pcos have benefited from weight loss surgery. However keep in mind that it will not cure pcos. Pcos effects more than weight.
You should get therapy to battle why you eat first or it wonāt work. āItās not what youāre eating, itās whatās eating you.ā You also have to change your whole relationship to food and follow a diet and exercise forever. If youāre willing to do that itāll be successful. If you donāt get to the root cause of why you overeat and sit on your butt, it wonāt. Or if you cheat with unhealthy foods or continue to overeat youāll just gain it all back. You have to permanently change your lifestyle.
I did I weighed 285 pounds and 5ā4 today 10 years later am 145 pounds ā¦ Before I was diabetic with high blood presser and pain in my knees and back I was on unhealed breathing machineā¦ Today I have none of the above Im only 58 and that was the best thing i have ever didā¦ So I recommend it to everyoneā¦my daughter had the gastrice sleeve she only loss 50 pounds but at 34 was able to conceive 4 timesā¦ So yes get it done u wont re great it

Yes. Lost close to 200lbs BUT you can restretch your stomach and gain weight back. Donāt be fooled into thinking itās easy or permanent. You need therapy before they even let you consider it. If you donāt follow the directions youāre given, for life, you will ruin it.

If you are addicted to carbs all the surgeries will not fix you! I am 66 and had that monkey on my back all my life. March 2020 my husband and I cleared our house of all sugar, flour, seed oil etc and began our journey. At this point health benefits are my number one priority though I have lost 60 pounds. I watch Dr Ken N Berry on Youtube and he has helped save my life. Carbohydrate addiction is real. At first I made keto desserts but now I just donāt crave sweets. I only eat when hungry and eat mostly beef and some salad. Food doesnāt have power over me except to improve my health. I had lapband but started gaining back. Unless you are morbidly obese and it is to save your life, I would believe those side effects of Gastric bypass.

I had it when I was 50, lost 120 pounds. I am 75 now and have only regained 10 lbs. Gastric bypass is just a tool, it isnāt a quick fix. I havenāt regretted my decision for a minute. Everyone is different and what is a problem for me may not be a problem for you. I canāt drink carbonated beverages, they tell you donāt drink anything for 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after you eat. That pouch is little, it only holds so much. I pay attention to that to this day. You canāt eat fast and you have to chew your food to death, lol. There are very few things that i personally canāt eat. Taking sublingual B12 is a must. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It is not the easy way out, it is hard work but worth it. I was hungry all the time before my gastric bypass and went to sleep hungry the night before surgery. I woke up after surgery not craving food like the day before and havenāt since. That was a real mind blower. Good luck in whatever you decide. I personally think that the pros far outweigh the cons.

My ex mother in law got this surgery, could never eat anything but baby food, and eventually passed away from complications caused by the surgery. I had it done. I regret it. I had lost 15 pounds on the prescribed liquid diet right before surgery, but only lost 25 more pounds after surgery. I worked hard with exercise to lose that 25 pounds. For years, I have thrown up a lot, have experienced constant nausea, and have had bad heartburn and indigestion since the surgery. The surgery only helps you to eat less. You still have to eat right and exercise. You just eat less with the surgery. You can eat less on your own with self-discipline. Such a surgery can change and disrupt your whole life. Eating right is more than half the battle. Exercise is an important addition to eating right. A smaller stomach is just a tool. The cons outweigh the pros, in my case at least. Best wishes in making a decision. A liquid diet before surgery worked the best for me. A liquid diet does include some food like yogurt and some soups. Anyway, I would not do it if I could go back.

Multiple health issues, weight comes back over time. Iād suggest something less invasive. You may have some food intolerances which can cause wide spread inflammation and hormonal issues. Gluten and dairy are two big ones. Good luck and hope this helps.

My mate has the bypass done, he lost heaps of weight and is looking really good. But it changed his personality and the person he used to be was a much nicer person. Safely to say after 10 years of a super close friendship we are no longer friends
I have seen it fail the patients. Iām a food addict and I realize I must watch my intake. Also, the comments about hypothyroidism and hashimotiās are worth looking into. See an endocrinologist before having this surgery please.
My daughter did this several years ago, she went to the doctor who originated the surgery. It was not easy and she works continually to keep her weight at the place she wants it to be. However she made the choice to go through life as she wishes to be rather than be trapped in a body that was not as she wanted. After 10 years she looks wonderful and feels good and is happy with the choice she made. It was not easy but well worth the work.
How is your thyroid, if you have pcos then a good possibility your thyroid isnāt working properly as well and it could actually be slow making you have hypothyroidism, but would want to have your antibodies checked to see if you could possibly have Hashimotos, which the antibodies are attacking your thyoid. Actually since you have PCOS and possibly an underactive thyroid then the AIP diet would be a good one to check in to. AIP means autoimmune protocol, you would cut out inflammatory foods and wat clean healthy foods, its a hard one as so much stuff has gluten and soy, plus the body craves that and becomes addicted to those things, but they can cause lots of health issues, gluten products arent the same as they was 40 yrs ago, now they are so processed that eating them causes our bodies issues.

I was 50 when I had roux n y gastric by pass. It worked for me, but is not the be all and end all. Alcohol consumption can be a problem, as well as other compulsive behaviors like shopping, gambling, and even sex. Plus weight gain can be a problem later, too. Suggest above all, that you are under the care of an endocrinologist who specializes in bariatric issues, especially since you are so young and have PCOS. Weight management is a life long issue that needs multiprong support and help to manage. Also the surgery has life long issues (nutritional for one) to consider and manage, which is why being under the care of an endocrinologist is so crucial. BTWā¦I am also an RN, so I understand the complexity of this issue from both sides ( as a patient and healthcare provider).

Surgery is not the easy way out of obesity. It was hard work prior to the surgery. Also she does have gastric problems still. She was 35 when she had her surgery. Make sure thatās the best route for you. Talk to your doctors.
I have PCOS. The best weight loss plan for PCOS is a low carb diet. Lots of veggies and fruits, moderate full fat dairy,no grains at all if possible, and a large variety of relatively lean meats and fatty fish.

Perhaps a Hypno Gastric Band may help? No surgery required but evidence supports its useā¦
A friend of mine had it done this past summer. I wonāt lie - her recovery was kinda rough. She got sick a lot and had a really hard time keeping anything down until she learned what foods agreed with her (although the first 3 weeks or so she couldnāt keep ANYTHING down. I think it took a good 6 weeks until she could really start to āeatā again without it coming right back up. I wanna say she said thatās typically not normal; although I canāt recall for certain). She still gets sick from time to time - but last I heard sheās lost over 100lbs! She also said her appetite changed because of the surgery and she now likes foods she hated pre-surgery and dislikes some foods she loved post surgery - and she canāt get enough salad or mushrooms now.
I will say from watching and listening to my friendās experience with weight loss surgery- it MUST come with a LIFE LONG lifestyle change. She had to work towards being approved to get surgery for nearly two years - and most doctors who perform it want you to lose a certain amount of weight on your own beforehand - both to make the surgery less risky; decrease chances of complications and to show said doctor that youāre willing and able to make the necessary lifestyle changes in order for it to benefit you long term. Yes; youāll feel full faster and get sick if you over-eat in the beginning; but if you donāt commit to a healthy diet (and exercise) for basically the rest of your life; your stomach can stretch back out and youāll start gaining weight back.
I wish you all the best and good vibes should you decide to go this route!
