Have you seen a fertility specialist?

Has anyone seen a fertility specialist versus an OB/GYN and it actually benefit/help? It’s been 1 year and going into 3 months that we’ve been trying. Nothing. I was wondering if anyone has seen one, the other, or both and have any stories or experiences to share? The route I’ve taken so far is GYN and so far hasn’t helped. Just wanting real experiences before I try, to make sure it’s worth it. Specialists aren’t fully covered under insurance lol.

I have. Did OB for one year and Fertility specialist for 1.5 yrs. Fertility places are definitely more equipped in monitoring your cycles and doing other things to try and get you pregnant. It’s stressful but so is having issues getting pregnant alone. OB offices can only do so much as they are not really there to get you pregnant but more to “keep” you pregnant and offer pregnancy support if that makes sense. Goodluck to you. It was a lonely road but I came out on top and I’m sure you will too :blue_heart:

Yep tried for years, spent thousands of dollars…learned afew things…but learned most all myself and conceived several times.

It took us 5 years to have our first. My ob told us it takes a normal healthy couple a year. He got tested and then i got tested and it was me. She put me on fertility meds and on the last round i got pregnant. Our next step was IVF and that was supposed to be our talk at that appointment

I have it helped a ton

My obgyn referred me to one

I was told for years I couldn’t have kids. My OBGYN was amazing. Gave me hope. He explained everything to me. I went onto bc for a few years to correct my cycles I went to make sure my tubes weren’t blocked. I lost 80lbs got off bc and 6 month later I fell pregnant. I had a baby girl. I was so lucky to have the 1. But 6 years later losing weight I got pregnant again unexpectedly with a boy. I never thought I would ever have a baby but my obgyn was amazing and actually cared.

I didn’t even know I could go to my ob. We went straight to a fertility clinic.ended up doing ivf and now our little guy is 4 months old. Uncovered for us, the process would have been close to 18,000 canadian, but the ontario government helps out with 1 round and covered 7,000 for the physical procedure. And we paid around 11,000 for our medication

Yep! And it was a great experience, I actually wish he could be my normal ob. I feel like my regular ob kind of brushed off my concerns, where my fertility Dr actually heard me and did the necessary testing. I had insurance and everything was covered minus the IVF meds and procedure.

I’d definitely follow talk to one or the other about it. You could also find a fertility doula to help. I have no idea if it would be covered but they are just as knowledgeable and incredibly helpful when it comes to tracking. And such a good emotional support on the journey

Definitely worth it but the tests you’ll need starting off an OBGYN can do.

I went to my OB first and she did simple diagnostic testing to me and my husband to find out why we weren’t getting pregnant. But that’s about it. After those tests came back we were referred to a fertility doctor and they were much more in depth and helped us conceive!

I can’t carry naturally but never saw someone for help with it. I ended up getting pregnant and have to have surgery and that’s when I found out I had endometriosis and my insides were basically glued together.

I had a coworker that her and her husband had tried to get pregnant and even adopt but when that fell through she went to the doc and they gave her a medication…(not sure the name) within a few months she was pregnant.

I have seen a fertility specialist. I got pregnant with both of my miracles after seeking help from specialist. I had endomitriosis and pcos. It is always beneficial to make consultation appointments with specialist bc in all reality your insurance will cover more than what you think. They honestly know how to code things so insurance will cover so much. My insurance covered everything on mine except my inseminations. All testing, office visits, ultrasounds, medications, etc. the only thing I paid was copay.

So I’ve dealt with both. The key to an obgyn is being actually HEARD AND CARED FOR!! I would definitely suggest having a consultation with a fertility clinic if possible. Sometimes they can do the necessary testing or even call your regular Dr as mine did with basically a “PLAN”

Yes. But I had a couple losses and then trouble conceiving before i was referred to a specialist. They did some tests but i ended up getting pregnant before they gave me any results and being crappy military doctors they told me that’s your OBs job now, luckily i ended up carrying full term that time. It never hurts to go once and get some advice, worst case you don’t go back, best case you get some answers or get pregnant.

I did, find you a Ob Gyn that specializes in fertility issues

OB referred to the fertility specialist. We went through testing and meds. Within about 4 months we were pregnant. We did miscarry that time. Got pregnant about 8 months or so later and she will be 14 yo this year.
Sometimes life style modifications and meds that you wouldn’t think of.

After 1 year of trying you can go see a Fertility specialist!! We had for all 3 of my girls, and got pregnant very quickly after getting the help we needed!

I saw a reproductive endocrinologist to have my first child almost 10 years ago. My husband I had been trying for 6 1/2 years before we had success. The last 3 were under the care of the RE. I had so so sooo many labs and tests over the years for them to tell me I have anovulatory cycles but for reasons unknown. My diagnosis: Unexplained infertility. Fast forward to 2020 and I conceived on my own. I have been using the Fertility Awareness Method to help understand my body. For years my doctors and I saw it as dysfunctional and irregular (it would be considered that I suppose) but there is a method to its madness and I have been able to understand it better, despite what many say and what I believed for years…that Fertility Awareness Method is not for people with menstrual irregularities. All this to say that seeing a fertility specialist is absolutely worth it but it is expensive and as you said often not covered. If you can try to decode your cycle you may be able to do it easier than you might think on your own.

It took me 1.5 years to get pregnant each time

Don’t concentrate on it I was married a little over 3 years never used any kind of birth control… And one day I was pregnant

Take folic acid and prenatel… That’s what I was told back in the day and it worked

Definitely don’t wait it’s been a year and nothing you should figure out why could be something simple don’t wait GYN always blame it on BMI lifestyle yet obsess woman get pregnant all the time get to bottom of cause go from there good luck :four_leaf_clover:

Ya y’all should see a fertility specialist then go from there

So, I didn’t get pregnant with a 6 year relationship. And we tried ALOT. No miscarriages, no late periods, we just didn’t get pregnant. I dated someone for a year and I told him I probably couldn’t get pregnant. So we tried after a year of being together. It took us 2-3 months of testing my ovulation, so I knew exactly when we needed to do the deed. I always would do it 2 days before my most fertile day and in 2 day spurts so that his semen was potent. I would use a lubricant. We aren’t always wet and they make baby making lubricant that helps the sperm find it’s way rather than hurting it. I now have been pregnant three times. Our babies are beautiful. I wish you the best of luck it is possible as long as you both can. Also the other guy I was with, he got a girl pregnant shortly after I was too! So it’s all timing and I believe my method.

Try preseed! I swear by it. Took us 31 months to conceive and on month 31 the only thing we tried differently was preseed!

I was referred to an OBGYN/Endocrinologist… ended up having PCOS, they checked my tubes to make sure they weren’t blocked and planned my route of fertility medication. Took 3 months from then to conceive.

My Fertility Specialist saved my life. I went to 5 different OBs for infertility and constant irregular bleeding for 18 months straight after a divorce and weightloss surgery. All of the OBGYNs said it was because I was still to fat and that’s why. I had lost 140 pounds at this time. How could it still be my weight? I braved marriage with a wonderful man a 2nd time and my husband was fed up with the OBs gaslighting me and even him when he explained the complications he also saw me having as we were newly weds, it kinda put a damper on things. I got divorced the 1st time due to infertility and other issues and my now husband and I had been together 2 years with zero success so I knew something was up with me because my now husband had 3 wonderful kids with his ex-wife. He got fed up with what was happening and took me to the Fertility Specialist. 1st visit the Fertility Specialist did a transvaginal ultrasound and discovered a tumor the size of a grapefruit on my ovary. We had to have the tumor removed removed before moving forward. It turned out to be stage 1 ovarian cancer and I was diagnosed April 2020. Luckily I was able to avoid chemotherapy after a 2nd staging surgery but already started down the path of egg preservation and out of 16 embryos we got one perfect little girl in the freezer after I was cleared to get pregnant. I was cleared for the embryo transfer in October 2020 and she took. I have a beautiful little girl in my life now. I went to check in with my oncologist and she said if we wanted to try again we had time to. We almost decided to not since it cost $33,000 out of pocket for the first time but another miracle landed in our lap. My husband’s company officially picked up infertility insurance with a company called Progyny and we only have to meet my deductible of $3,600 and are officially starting with the 2nd try at one more baby before I have to finish removing my reproductive organs to prevent my cancer from coming back. My case is extremely rare 1 in 100,000. With that said OBs are the absolute worst to work with on infertility. If it’s been over year definitely check in with an Infertility Specialist. Your issue could be as simple as a hormone imbalance and there’s so many more options than just IVF. There are medications, IUI, and other treatments I was not eligible for. Insurance covers some of the ultrasounds and mine covered all the bloodwork ordered luckily. If you really want to experience motherhood it 100% worth it. My daughter is one of the best things I ever decided to do.

Please take a look at the RESOLVE website and find a local support group. I used to facilitate a group for 7 years. These are your people  I was treated in 3 countries, 8 IVF cycles and another special journey to motherhood! Good luck to you!
