I’ve been driving for 11 years and it was a whole different anxiety when it came to having my child in the car too. If you’re confident in your driving all you can do is focus on destination and remind yourself it’ll be okay.

Its a great thing to do and to have. With kids especially. Its ok to have anxiety ive been driving since i was 15 now 29 and i still have anxiety some times and had it driving with my first kid.

Tips: take some drives on back roads by yourself, on the highway etc… you can start at a low traffic time and work your way up. Same with the kids in the car, drive around your neighborhood and you will get more comfortable and confident.

Just think of it like you’re giving someone a lift

I took three driving tests and passed on my third. The biggest difference with that wasn’t that I made no mistakes, but if I did make one I’d immediately verbalize what I did wrong. You’re not there to have a flawless test, but prove that you know the rules of the road. Scan every time you’re passing anywhere a car could be coming from, whether you have the right of way or not.

I’m not 100% sure I understand the question exactly however I think the trick is drive alone as much as you can. And find a couple of roads that you’re comfortable with. Like maybe something simple like the main Street and side roads in your town and just stick to that for a while. I didn’t get my license until I was 18 because my parents wouldn’t sign off on it and for the first like 6 months I would only drive on one particular highway and side streets and then I would work my way up to a new one and so on and so forth. I think it’s more responsible that you are taking it seriously. Plan some fun close trips to do with the kids. I don’t know how old they are but a local park or Beach or shopping area and just go during the traffic times if you can. Eventually you won’t really think about it.

Drive on backroads first/country roads. Don’t drive at night until you’re comfortable. Just take it easy! Start slow

Be aware of your surroundings. Just because you trust your own driving, doesn’t mean you can trust other people on the road.

Best advice I was given and use it every time I’m behind the wheel is “Drive like everyone else is going to make a mistake”. While it sounds like it’ll give you more anxiety, it actually helped mine… Obviously always focus on your own driving but just cause someone passed their test and is aloud on the road doesn’t mean they really need their license.

Just take short trips and the more you do it the better you’ll feel. It takes time to build your confidence.

Don’t think about it too much. You’ll be fine. Get the confidence in driving alone first, than slowly do small trips with the kids.

I was the same way. I just avoided busy streets and freeways until I felt 100% confident. But I had been driving 5 years before I had my first baby

It’s natural. When I gave birth it was scary having the baby in the car, eventually that goes out the door. Make sure they have proper seats and strapped

If the kids are young…a small bag of snacks or a favorite small toy to keep them occupied is very helpful, it depends on their ages, pre teens and teens are more apt to be less troublesome because they have a ipod, or listening to music, playing games.
Never let your attention to driving safetly be interfered with. Safety first and for e most !

Practice on country roads first. Then in parking lots for night driving. Large ones. You can practice your angle parking in the parking lot while you’re there. You’re best off to practice parallel parking later at night when traffic is light till you feel more comfortable with it. A couple things to remember. Don’t come to a complete stop to to turn right. Slow way down, but don’t stop. You frustrate the drivers behind you and your car can’t turn unless it’s moving. Pay attention to the traffic lights. You would be surprised how many people stop at green lights because they aren’t paying attention. Don’t take off right away when a light goes green, look first. Some people will run a red light. A lot of places have started having a yellow flashing light show for a left turn meaning you can turn if you have time before on-coming traffic reaches you. If you don’t feel comfortable with the amount of time you have, there’s no shame in not gunning it and taking the chance. Go ahead and wait for the green. Better safe than sorry. On the highway, if you are the slower traffic, keep to the right hand lanes. When traffic is coming onto the highway, move to the center lane and let them in. If a cop has someone pulled over on the shoulder, you must move over a lane when going by them . Then resume your lane. You shouldn’t weave between lanes, but be courteous. Always signal a lane change. When joining a highway, signal and try to get up to highway speed as much as possible. Slide into a spot in the closest lane. If you’re lucky a car will motion with his hand or flash his headlights to let you in. Most likely you will be driving close to home. That’s where most accidents usually happen. Always watch out for other drivers. Always presume they aren’t watching what they’re doing. Drive defensively. And last but not least, always watch out for motorcycles. That poor soul isn’t protected. Don’t pull out in front of him. Give him a wide berth. Pretend he’s bigger than you are. Then you should both be fairly safe.

Take a Xanax and drink about 6 bud lights before you drive and you’ll be super calm.

Don’t overthink it. And the more you drive the easier it is cause your getting used to doing it.

If you are that nervous, don’t drive

It’s scary first with your kids in the car for the first time, I was so nervous my girls weren’t allowed to speak and I drove slowly I mean not that slow but slowly, yes it is nerve racking but it will calm down.

Honestly, it’s always nerve wracking driving with babies/kids in the car the first few times. Don’t worry about it. Just stay alert, watch other drivers and watch your speed. you’ll be fine.
