How can I get a child to stop grinding their teeth?

Does anyone else’s child grind their teeth during their sleep? What did/can you do to help stop it? Thank you! (She already has a dentist appointment coming up in June)

Dr n dentist told me some kids just grind them n theres nothing you can really do about it. Mines 5 n still grinds them

Depending on the age of the child I think you can buy gum shields. My 5yo also grinds teeth in her sleep. :grimacing:

Sometimes they give a mouthguard

My son is 6 and has been doing it in his sleep. I would like to know also what we can do to get him to stop.

Mouth guard. I have a friend who uses one for his grinding.

Could be TMJ take her to a dentist and get a mouth guard

Football mouth guard.

They make a bite guard it’s like a retainer. Depending on the child’s age try that.

My son did it real bad till he was about 5-6… he is now 9 and outgrew it.

All my kids do this. The dentist said it’s normal and will help lose their teeth easier when it’s time.

Using a dental guard that you form at home will ultimately hurt the jaw joint more also bc the bite will not be level and the condoyle will become more inflamed. This is natural. I am a dental assistant of 18 years

You cant when they are little they do it cause of teething my 19 month old does It too. And I wanna gag

It is bruxism, no cure but the use of a mouth guard greatly decreases tooth damage.

Ugh, my kid did from 4-6ish years old.

She is 8 now and has since stopped.

All my girls did it. There’s no stopping it especially in their sleep bc they haven’t a clue they’re doing it. Best bet is to get a mouth guard. My girls are 21x2, 19, 15, and 12 and my oldest still does it. Basically good dental care and a mouth guard and pray they outgrow it bc sometimes they do an sometimes not.

My lg has done it since she got her teeth she is now 5 and has a appointment with dentist in june too, although over the phone they said she might not be suitable for a mouthguard due to age and asd but she has worn her teeth down something chronic so hoping they do something .x

Get a mouth guard made at the dentist. I have to have one and should probably have a sleep study done. You grind your teeth in your sleep bc your body is trying to get you to open your mouth and breathe. At least that’s what my dentist and doctor have said.

Pretty sure one of my kids used to, I haven’t noticed it for a while. Buuutttt, I grind my teeth, and use a mouth guard.

in Last month i have received $ 21961 by doing work on my mobile. I never thought I’d be able to do it but my buddy makes over $ 19638 a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The possibllity with this ls endless.

My 2 year old does this but during the day. I tell her stop with the teeth. She’ll stop but will do it again later

I work in a dental office. Grinding is normal but do take her in just to make sure it’s not causing any trouble, but it is normal.

You can ask the dentist about those mouthpieces they sell for people to put in their mouths at night who grind their teeth. I used to grind my teeth as a kid. It usually happened when I was under stress. Every night. It started shortly after my Dad died. I stopped after awhile. I don’t know why.

They make a bite guard. I get mine and my kids theirs at Walmart

I get paid over $ 130 per hour w0rking from home. I never thought l’d be able to do it but my colleague makes over $ 16687 a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The possibility with this is limitless.

Underlying anxiety maybe. Ask the dentist, find a psychiatrist/psychologist who does play therapy.

Years ago my 3 yr old son had a cross bite, end to end bite, and ground his front teeth about half way down. Our dentist placed I believe what he called “bite ramps”. Basically built one of the back molars up on each side a bit so he couldn’t grind the front teeth down anymore. We had to do it a few times (he ground the ramps down as well) before corrective measures could be taken at a later age.

Genetics: My husband had jaw surgery for class III malocclusion. (Bulldog look) This condition is hereditary- Our DDS worked to prevent my son’s top front teeth from resting behind the lower fronts which would have forced his lower jaw out. Fortunately my son never needed jaw surgery like his dad but… braces were an absolute.
