How can I get my breastfed baby on the bottle?

My bubs four months old and breastfed, any tips on getting her on a bottle? I’ve tried multiple times, and she doesn’t want any of it, I tried pumping and a couple different formulas/bottles too! don’t get me wrong I love also breastfeed, but it’s exhausting and could really do with some help

Have someone else give her a bottle. She might not take it from you.

My children won’t take a bottle ever, even when I was working,so they went straight to a sippy cup, from the breast, but I breast feed for at least a 1to 2 years

The only bottle my son would take is tommee tippee also have someone else feed baby and you leave the room. She can smell your breast milk and would rather get it straight from the source if you’re near by.

Agreed. Baby may not take it from you at first. You may even have to be out of the room.

Don’t wait until she’s starving. Have someone else give it to her and leave the room

I don’t have a hopeful story because the only time my son took a bottle was after his cleft lip repair when he was 3 months old and he only took that one bottle right after the surgery all children are different though…

try the lansinoh bottle, i excusively breast fed and my daughter wouldnt take a bottle at all, another mom told me about the bottle so i tried it and the rest was history lol good luck mama

My youngest refused a bottle. I had to work, I pumped, tried formularies all different bottles and nipples. Nothing worked for her and this was at daycare, so I was nowhere around. The provider would constantly try to feed her but she would refuse and just wait until I came to pick her up. I worked 5 hour days at the time so I would nurse her before I left the daycare and nurse her as soon as I got to the daycare.

Try the MAM bottles they might be helpful, that’s what my doctor suggested when I quit at 5 weeks

I used Dr Browns wide neck bottles with breastmilk to start. Only formula I can get my baby to take is the ready to feed. But I also gave her the bottle to try with breastmilk at maybe a week old because I knew it would be harder later on, and just randomly once a week I would give her the bottle so I knew she would use it when I went back to work.

I breastfeed mine and I tried for a few weeks to get her to take the bottle. I just kept offering it every day multiple times. At first she would just play with the nipple but not drink. She still doesn’t take it as well as she nurses but she drinks it well enough when she’s hungry.

Mine would only take a bottle when I wasn’t around and usually better for my dad and husband than for my mom. If boob was around she didn’t want th edd bottle

Have to find the right bottle. My son would only use certain bottle.

I’ve heard of mamas using a nipple shield the get baby used to the feel then trying a bottle!

Try to find a bottle that matches your nipple. Weather your nipple is big or small there is a bottle out there that will match it. My baby only took one that matched mine. We tried a bunch of different bottles and she would only take one kind

Oh yeah try a nipple shield

Try the plain old playtime bottles with the flat nipples they always worked great for mine and the lactation nurse said they were closest thing to a mother’s nipple

Try different types of bottles or types of nipples, also the nipple flow of the bottle, try and make it as close to body temp as well.

Let dad or grandma feed baby! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: my son took MAM bottles well, they are just kind of awkward for baby to hold.

My son refused a bottle if i was around. He took one from my mom everyday, i pumped and provided milk while i worked and she watched him. If my husband wanted to feed him a bottle id have to go outside LOL. So, it could very well be that. Good luck! Some babies are just stubborn

My daughter would not take a bottle. I tried all of them. At 4 months old she did take a sippy cup the silicone kind with the handles. That was my saving grace

Medela bottles with the correct nipple flow for their age and I agree warm up the bottle to a nice warm temp and that’s what always worked on all of mine. Good luck to you. I know that it’s tough!

The tommee tippee ones are the best! My son wouldn’t take bottles until I got those. I had a hard time getting him on bottles too but I just kept trying. I would breastfeed him for a second then take it out and give him the bottle.

Both my kiddos were like this, and I found most nipples were too fast. I also tried all the name brand, expensive bottles first, and found slow flow nipples or even premie nipples helped. I can’t remember which brand they finally took. Hang in there!

Are you warming the bottles? Mine will only take formula if its warmed! It took him a couple tries on the bottles too. He likes the Tommee Tippee ones.

Just keep trying different bottles and give it time… My two year old never would take a bottle. Thankfully he took to a 360 cup around 6 months

My spectra bottles worked and warming it up really good… took awhile but eventually that’s what worked.

When we supplement, we use MAM bottles and Enfamil Enspire. We struggled most with finding a formula baby could stand the taste of. Look into “paced feeding” if you plan on continuing nursing, baby’s can develop bottle preference from the faster flow.

You might get someone else in the family to try a give bottle.

Too late, made that mistake with my 1st one, refused to take a bottle, could not leave her with anyone…it.was.exhausting!! Learned my lesson on the next 4, bottle and book from day 1…good luck

She is less likely to take the bottle from you because she knows you have what she wants. Have a family member or friend try giving her the bottle first. just keep trying momma, you’re allowed to be tired and you’re allowed to want a break. You got this!

My son only takes his bottles super warm like on the verge of being hot lol. Try warming it up more. Also have someone else feed her so she gets used to it. My son barely wants to take it from me because he knows my smell and that I have the boobs lol

Do it gradually my son was 8months old when i got him on the bottles… It about 3weeks… I introduce one feed at a time… Let baby get alil hungry than try… It may not work untill a few times… These small ones can be resistant… By 9months he was fully on the bottle… But i did it very slowly and very gradually… I did not dry up my breast milk as i still pump him a feed… But he will not trouble me for breast at all… Also i had to try 4 formulars untill he settled…breastfed babies are sensitive to formulars… Novalac seems to be the best for him so far…

When I started to switch from boob to bottle with my son I had either my SO or my mum feed him his bottle (I also did boob, bottle, boob, bottle etc so I didn’t get uncomfortable as my supply went down) it took a week or 2 before he’d have the bottle off me because he could smell mummy and would try for boob instead but we got there (didn’t help that I caught a severe thrush infection in both my boobs so I was in agony every time I tried to feed him which is why I had to switch go bottle in the 1st place) you’ll get there hun x

They make a bottle that’s close to being shaped like a boob. That may help baby transition.

MAM bottles were the only ones my boy would take. Also get someone else to feed your little one and leave the room - my 7 month old wouldn’t take it from ME initially. When he was comfortable with it I was able to give him one/ it didn’t take very long at all!

I’ve been through this. We tried every bottle. Finally tried the mimijumi bottle. Only bought one Because they are expensive. But we just washed between uses. And now he will take any bottle .

I had to keep trying bottles until I found this one kind. Wish I remembered the name but it was shaped close to a breast. Only one he would ever take.

I would try a boob like bottle and slowly wean off. Mostly bm @first then less milk to formula over some weeks.

Try putting sugar water on the nipple of the bottle.
