Read to them. Every chance you get. My 5 year old loves books and my 1 1/2 yr old has seen us reading or looking at pictures and does story time herself and flips thru her Sesame Street books pointing out her favs. And as they get older take them to the library and have them pic out books based on their interests. We read lots of train/paw patrol/sesame books lol

I used to lay my boys next to me on the bed (twins) starting at 4 months. I would hold the book up in the air and we’d all lay in our backs. I would read to them whenever I could. As they got older whenever we were somewhere like doctor’s appointments or family events, even funerals, I would pick up a book and read out loud. They’d come over and sit on my lap. Just make it your culture. And if you can, at all costs, keep them away from screens.

I read to my children nightly almost from jump and they both in their own time developed a love for reading and books. They are both adults now and still enjoy reading. Just share your love for reading and books.

Start reading to them. If you haven’t gotten them signed up for Dollys Imagination Library you should see if it’s available in your area! They send 1 book a month up until 5 years old.

I read to my children, son ended up learning to read before he started school, just because he wanted to see what I was reading so I would put my finger under the word. Oh, I also bought computer word games for children, just for fun.

A/V books they can follow along with at that age are a huge help too! But yes, read to them any chance you get. Even if it just becomes a bedtime routine. The stimulation is great for brain development too!

Read to them every single day! That will install a love of reading! That’s why I’m an English teacher today! My mom and grandma read to me daily.

What about a 9 year old? Lol everytime i tell him to read he feels like its a punishment.lol

Read to them every day, age appropriate books - all sorts! Some interactive books are great at this age, especially with flaps to lift or things to touch and feel  as they get older you can work into bigger grander books, all types are great and help develop that love of books. My eldest is nearly 4 and she loooooves story time  we read stories, nonfiction books about various animals and other things she’s interested in, and everything in between. She even asks to listen to audiobooks like the magic treehouse series in the car!

Find time to cuddle up and read with them every day…picture books, simple books, rhyming books, pattern books, ALL THE BOOKS! We started with my son when he was very young as well, and he still loves to read and be read to. He is in fifth grade this year and his reading level, vocabulary, language development, and over all scholastic ability have continued to flourish. Take them to the library and book shops for story times too. They will love it. :blue_heart:

I am an avid reader. I will read anything. When my son was a baby, I used pop up books, picture books and soft books. As he got older, we read Golden Books together. Our nightly ritual was a bed time story. As he got older, he read a few pages to me nightly. Reading before bed became a nightly habit for him and his reading comprehension skills were above average throughout school.

Read to them every night. You can start now.

I read to my daughter every night after she was born and while she was an infant. She also had a lot of “infant friendly” books… she’s 9 now and absolutely loves reading and reads above her grade level.

Find books about things they like. For example if your child likes cars get books about cars.if they like dinosaurs get books about dinosaurs. Etc

You don’t. You can’t make someone like it.

Read to them. My Nana read to me as a baby and small child. And I absolutely love books. Reading is such a comfort to me. When I was a teenager and would get grounded? I wouldn’t get sent to my room. I’d have to sit down with the rest if the family and not be allowed to read unless it was school related as most of my free time, I’d hide in my room with my nose in some book. Lol

Finding the right genre of books… I got sucked into reading not because I was read to, but rather I found books I couldn’t put down. Ask my mom why I wanted to stay in a hotel room instead of go to Disney world…

Read to them. Storytime at night. And make it fun when you do.

Just read with them often. Make different voices for characters and facial expressions.

Start with the cardboard books let them turn the pages and find things in the pictures that makes it more fun!!

I read from birth to now, at bedtime. They are 7 and 4 and love their books and going to the library.
The 7 year old has read over 1000 books and reads at a 4th grade level. All because she would listen. I never forced her.
Same as to what my mom did for me. I was considered a speed reader and could finish a chapter book in just a few days.

Read to them starting NOW. Buy them books, starting now. When they are 2 and 3, start taking them to the library and letting them each pick out a couple of books and read those to them. Start helping them to recognize words that identify things and simple connecting words. They will probably have favorite books they will want you to read over and over. When they do, ask them to read the book to you… starting at 4 or so. They’ll take right off probably. Keep buying books. They’ll start liking certain kinds of books. Books about animals, the weather, mysteries, famous people, sports, whatever… Good luck.

Not everyone likes to read…I personally hate it…I read to my kids and hope they will enjoy it but you can’t make them

They have to start liking to read when they are very young that’s what I did with my kids

Put them on your lap and read to them. Let them learn that reading comes with cuddles and love.

read to them, read around them (and use other methods to read in front of them - like on your phone/tablet/audiobook), have ‘special days’ going to the library or bookstore, put a bookshelf/rack in their room.
Just overall do what you normally do, as a reader, in front of them all the time.

Read to them n read to them n read to them. Then in school have them read to you. Encourage so many books for pizza night or so many books for movie night etc.

Keep reading to them. Keep it as a ritual as they get older
When older simple s ntence books they can repeat after you.
A structured time everyday for everyone to read. Picture books make up your own stories

Read to them. A lot. Even when your busy and they come with the same book you’ve read 10 times in the last 3 days, read it again. Do story times and library days. Check out books! Let them pick books.

Read to them. I started mine at about 6-8 months old and she had her own I bought like 100 old kids books for $20 lol and just let her play with them. She liked looking at the pics and she liked how excited I got while reading to her. I always did my best to use different and exciting voices… she still picks out her books at 2.5

READ TO THEM as often as you can, let them hear how excited you are while reading to them

Read to them and make sure you use props and different voices. Make it fun! Stretch their imagination.
