How can I help my baby with constipation?

Okay mommas I need help. How can I help my baby with constipation and bad gas? I do bicycles, massage/rub belly, burp when needed, grip water, gas/constipation medicine, prune juice and apple or pear juice. Nothing seems to work good. And the formula he is on, is one of the easiest ones on the tummy, so I’ve been told by doctors. Nor can we change it since he was born prematurely 2 months early.

My doctor had us do 2 tablespoons clear Karo syrup to a 2 Oz bottle of water. It was the only thing that worked for us for constipation.

Id be having doc run some tests before doing anything drastic. Could it be a dairy intolerance/allergy? Not uncommon for some babies to have trouble with formula or even when BF if dairy is in the diet/formula. You need to rule things out before adding a bunch in otherwise it’s too difficult to tell what’s doing what.

Light Karo syrup in the formula.

My daughter could not digest milk so we switched her to soy and she never had another stomachache after that

I went through this with our oldest. We got these and she went within an hour.

It helped her. Worth a shot.

Depending on the age, make sure the juice is split with water. 60 water, 40 juice until about 18 months is recommended is they have trouble digesting it. If this is constant, you can do 70/30.
Under 6 mons shouldn’t really need water, but some may need a few sips to help get things going. You don’t give more than 1oz bc their kidneys can’t process it.
Also, if the formula is Iron Fortified, get a gentler version. Many babies have trouble with all that iron. It causes all of those symptoms. Iron fortified is mostly for babies with issues with anemia and breaking down vitamins.

My daughter is 15 months and struggle with being constipated also. They have prescribed her miralax and so far it has not changed anything. They did say if it doesn’t change by her next appointment they will prescribe her to a gi specialist. She eats fruits a lot but nothing seems to help her either :woman_facepalming:t3:

Christina Vinzant nope. BioGaia probiotics lol. I swear by it. Miralax is bad for babies.

Miralax

Oral dosage (e.g., MiraLax): Infants* and Children* less than 2 years: 0.4 gram/kg/day PO initially has been suggested; dose ranges of 0.2 to 1.5 grams/kg/day PO have been used in studies; in a trial of infants and toddlers, the mean effective dose range was 0.8 to 1.1 grams/kg/day PO

BIOGAIA PROBIOTICS and Mylacon gas drops, TOGETHER 5 drops a day, first bottle of the day. I promise you, this advice has worked on so many people I know. And I promise you those are the only probiotics that work. Yes, infants can have them. They are a literal LIFE SAVER. I actually swear by this advice lol.

Depends on how old your baby is. Fruit juice may cause gas if the baby is really young. I gave my kids sterilized water and put Karo syrup in it. Water needs to be as warm as the formula. Ask your Pediatrician for advice.

We switched to soy and used BioGaia Probiotic drops

Warm baths always helped my kiddos.

Depending how old few mil of water with tiniest bit of sugar

Our daughter has the same issue when she was 1 month we tried everything! She was backed up so the dr had to put his finger in her it was the worst but it helped! Also Drs don’t recommend gripe water try using mylicon. Eventually she went and hasn’t had an issue yet. It’s common for babies to have constipation. Just do what you’re doing and it will come out!

Liquid probiotics, put it in bottle daily!

4oz of Luke warm water or room temperature water depends on age. Little tiny drop of peppermint mixed in the water.
You notice you have to poop after you have that first hot coffee. Remember the days of restaurants giving you mints or peppermint candy after dinner. Helps with indigestion heartburn.
