I have a 4 year old that started swimming lessons this week in an outside pool. He loves the lessons but has been freezing by the end. I have him in a long sleeve top, trunks, and swim shoes. I come get him with a thick towel right after but he is so cold the instructor carried him out of the pool today. Everyone else seemed chilled but ok. Any ideas to help him stay warm?
The shirts make you colder. Just slap him with a bunch of sun screen and let the sun touch his skin to keep warm
Get rid of the shirt for one thing. It’s holding the wet cold next to him. The skin dries faster than cloth.
Get him a wetsuit. Surfers wear them to stay toasty warm in the chilly Pacific Ocean here in California. They work really well!
My question is, where do yall live lol. I’m in Louisiana and we’re sweating bullets this time of year
Wetsuit, a good quality one, the same that surfers wear
My 4 yr old wears a wetsuit in one of the pools in town. Helps a ton.
Following. We have the same issue.
Keep him in the sun with plenty of sun block and his towel . I can’t think of any other ways!
I have the same issue. It was 104 on Thursday and my son came out of the pool early because he was freezing
Orange juice and a 1/2 peanut butter and honey sandwich (or toast) about hour before lessons and when he gets out take off swim suit -put on sweat pants, shirt. Dry his hair and put a hat on him.
The food is for energy and protein- to increase body core heat
Removing wet and drying removes cold source
Sweat pants and shirt to heat up
Drying hair and putting hat on helps heat body up.
I taught swimming lessons a long time - even in the Southern California heat I had kids who’d get out shaking. So after a lil’ research, communication with a few local high school swim coaches, and whatnot- this is what helped us out
Where do you live? We are at the Atlantic Ocean (Canada) most kids learn to adapt. What did we do as kids=suck it up or do without
