How can I talk my husband to get a used vehicle?

Y’all how do I talk my husband into getting a used vehicle? We need to get something new this year because ours is just too small for our family of 5 and up until literally today we’ve been talking about looking at vans from 20-24 year ranges. Well today he said we are not getting anything used and are going to buy brand new, build on the website and order type van. Y’all those are $50,000 or more! I was hoping to not go over $30,000 if we could. But this man is all of a sudden wanting brand new and isn’t budging on that!

You know your finances best. Right now the used car market is tough. $20,000 for a vehicle with 100,000 plus miles on it. A lot of the new cars also have solid rate incentives. I purchased a 2025 Ford Explorer ST Line and have an interest rate of 3% due to the incentives they had going at the time. I’d look at both options and make a decision from there.

A big purchase like that should be something that is talked about and agree on. I can see both sides but l personally don’t like car payments. He’s probably also thinking all the mechanical issues that you could have with a used car. If you get a used vehicle and end up having a bunch of problems with it you might be better off with a new one.

Ask him why and ask him about the family finances…is this a sensible decision? He needs to talk it through with you instead of just going with what he wants

That’s where communication about finances comes into play. I went new because 2 years old was just about the same price. Plus sometimes you can get a better rate for new. But if it’s finances, both adults should know how much you can spend. Or how much you can afford for a monthly payment. I would get monthly payment rates for both used and new.
