How can I treat my really bad anxiety?

So I’ve been taking anxiety meds for a while… At first, they helped, and now it seems like it’s not helping anymore. I have really BAD anxiety attacks in cars… A million thoughts run in my head SUCH AS I’m going to crash, the roads are never going to end as in highways, it feels like the car is getting smaller, someone is going to hit us, OR I’m going to tip! When I get like that, I NEED TO STOP ASAP and get out of the car! I feel like I’m going CRAZY! Somedays, I can’t even go to a town away that’s only 7 miles because I get these stupid thoughts OVER & OVER! Some of my family thinks I’m faking to get attention, but no, that’s how I truly feel! When I tell my med doctor about it. It’s like she doesn’t even pay attention. Like the last visit, I tried to tell her, but she didn’t switch my meds… she just said, see you in 3 months… I’m losing my mind! Please tell me I’m not alone! How does anyone deal with this if anyone else feels this way?

Hi! I also have a generalized anxiety disorder and can relate to everything you say. Look into grounding techniques if you have not already. They are very helpful. Medication never worked for me.

You need to learn how to relax and control it. I know it sounds easier said then done. Try breathing exercises, plenty of rest/ food/water. if you find yourself getting an attack, step outside to get some air and to collect yourself. Do something for yourself that you enjoy and brings you peace. Most importantly pray. Pray and ask God to help you, talk to him, pour your heart out to him. He’s always listening. Life gets hectic and especially in these tough times. Best of luck hun

Either call your doctors office and speak to the nurse or leave a message explaining your meds are not working like they used to and you either need a higher dose or a change in meds and please call me back as soon as possible… Or make an appointment with a different doctor. Some will even do phone appointments. Also counseling will give you tools to work with when you feel the attack coming on and you can even stop the attack… I promise it can get better but you have to do some of the work to learn the tools that work for you. Praying you get the help you need. Best wishes. I also agree with Mayra… God will be there, but you must invite Him and thank Him.

Have you had blood work done recently? Have them check your vitamin levels and thyroid. I frequently have low vitamin d, and When my levels are low I am a mess. Also when I Iam having an anxiety attack taking a vitamin b complex capsule and letting it dissolve under my tongue helps to calm me tremendously.

I have generalized anxiety disorder and I take Buspirone (Buspar) daily. It has helped tremendously but it takes about 2 weeks to a month to really see a change. I take 15mg in the morning (use to take 2 pills a day once in the am & one in pm) and now I’m only down to one dose. Ive been on it for almost a year and a half and it’s helped more then any other pill out there ive be prescribed. On a side note grounding yourself outside in the grass barefoot helps far more then anything ive ever been prescribed.

All the females in my family have anxiety. I used to take Clonopin but then I had to get off of it because obviously it’s Very addictive. I also had to learn to control it myself. You can learn behavior modification and meditation that can help you get through those things. You need to tell yourself that you’re not gonna die and you haven’t died yet and you’re gonna be fine. Easier said than done I know but if you don’t wanna be on medication or the medication is no longer working I highly recommend you getting some books on anxiety and learning how to practice meditation

Have you happened to mention any of this to your doctor or have you just been miserable on the same dosage and havent said a word to your doc?
Talk to your doctor first and not the internet. Medication is important and you have to be 100% honest about your symptoms otherwise your doctor cannot prescribe the most effective medication for your brain and body.

I agree try cbd along with your med. I too have bad anxiety and a horrible overthinker which can be hard to control. But since starting cbd gummies it has helped. I also take buspar 3x a day because once a day wasnt doing much. I also ended up getting a puppy which has helped me cuz im so busy i cant worry about overthinking lol. But i can relate anxiety is not easy to deal with. I also try to take a hot bath ever night to help relax

Have blood work done. I’m a huge ball of anxiety. I was taking klonopin but it stopped working. Come to find out my thyroid is out of whack. Hyperthyroidism is what’s been causing my extreme anxiety. Now I take medication for that and I’m no longer anxious.

Your meds probably need to be adjusted. It’s normal. Talk to your doctor.

Switch doctors immediately.

Try to talk to her again, and explain. IF it doesn’t work this time, find a new provider who will listen.

You have the " what ifs ". Write down all the things that bother you about driving and make a list of what HAS happened while driving . Just pull off the road until you calm down and go again . I suggest you tell your dr the meds are not working and maybe contact a psychologist to talk over your fears .

I have anxiety also. It got on medicine that worked for a bit then i had to change and now I feel so much better. I would get a new doctor if this one doesn’t take you seriously. I know some of my anxiety doesn’t make sense to some people but my doctor never brushed it off they helped me find what works for me so you should really find someone new ASAP to help you.

I get SUPER bad anxiety in the car so I developed coping mechanisms. Like, I always have a sweet tea or soda. I play music, roll my windows down, take back roads, etc. It helps me alot and may help you until you change your meds or see a therapist

Are you working with a therapist to teach you coping skills and specializes in anxiety and not just general anxiety? Personally I take Valium for anxiety since 2011/12 but only sparingly. I use all my tools first. Have you told your therapist you are having intrusive thoughts? They can teach you “stop thoughts”, so when you have these moments you can picture a giant stop sign, a piece of paper with the word stop or even just saying self stop highways end they have to the land doesn’t go on forever, etc. You need a therapist and probably a psychiatrist to take over your meds Bc a PCM isnt going to be trained as well to handle such extreme mental health issues.

Cbd or thc helps tremendously, I have bad anxiety along with depression and ptsd and both have helped me, been off my xanax for almost a year now and so glad.

Maybe you are suffering with agoraphobia. You will need desensitization therapy and meds. It’s very treatable if you can find a good therapist.

Medication alone will probably not change such fears. It sounds like you need some cognitive behavioral therapy or some desensitization therapy to help you work through these issues in addition to medication. Good luck.

Praying helps me a lot. It takes my mind off the anxious thoughts.

This sounds like OCD. True OCD, not the kind people say they have over being clean and orderly (pop culture term). True OCD is exactly like this. I would really recommend seeing a psychiatrist.

You are not alone. I’ve been suffering through the same thing since I was on a really strong antibiotic in February and March. I was good before I started the antibiotic and I read reviews on the med and everyone said they’ve never had a problem with anxiety until they took it. I’ve been on Lexapro for my anxiety since March, 5mg, first few weeks then upped to 10mg and been on that since end of March. I still have anxiety attacks even with the Lexapro. My dr even tried putting me on Buspirone and mirtazapine. I started the mirtazapine, then after a week I had a breakdown with 2 bad anxiety attacks where I had go to er. I was given ativan by the er dr and she said my dr should’ve never put me on that because I should’ve been put on a benzoe for when I have an attack. So now I’ve decided to try a psychiatrist doctor for some help, whether it’s different meds or what, because my dr says same thing to me… see you in 3 weeks and try this med and try this med. Im scared to drive alone, ive even been scared to go shopping alone. I’m tired of trying meds, I just want my anxiety to go away. I’m hear if you ever want to message me, im.in the same boat!!!

Try a therapist they can teach u natural ways to deal with it and cope, and believe me it DOES work. From experiencing a mental breakdown with anxiety morning until night panic attacks one after another barely being able to leave my apartment I’ve learned so much through therapy its a miracle almost! Takes time but works if u put in the work your being taught. Good luck!

I feel your pain!! I also suffer from anxiety, PTSD and severe depression. I have had days just like you are describing. I have literally had to stop the car and pray through the panic attacks and Afib. I am scared to drive very far from my home because of it. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.:pray::pray::broken_heart:

I break mine and take a fourth, seemed like the longer I took it the worse the side affects became. Now I just use half to sleep, not nearly what it all was. Took me around 4 years to figure it all out, good luck sisters

Same. Put on meditation music, find 5 different smells, find 5 things that are red, etc etc basically eye spy for your senses. It will help get through the attack faster. Turn on your AC on blast, freeze yourself out so you focus on the cold…
I go through the same stuff so I’ve taught myself some tricks over the past 15 years

You’re not alone. Since having my second child I’m struggling so hard with mortality and death and not being in control of any of it, I can’t control what happens to myself or my kids or my husband and I’ve had full blown panic attacks lately

Medical cannibis!! Put lavender essential oil on ur wrists n temples.

Maybe try changing to another psychiatrist & get a change of meds. I had seen a total of 3 psychiatrist and thankfully the last one was perfect for me & helped me recover. My relative has similar anxiety issue with driving as you and she hasn’t driven her car for probably 2 years now. Her anxiety cause wasn’t even related to car or driving in the first place.

Then ur meds need to be adjusted .

Sometimes a therapistcame give you multiple ways to try to cope. I talked to mine for almost a year and I can do a lot of the things that triggered my attacks. It takes time and trying different ways to cope. Good luck.

Think of something you can feel, something you can see, then taste, touch and hear to help ground you as you drive. Work with a therapist on behavior modification & aversion therapy (they’ll ride with you and talk you through how to deal with it). Also ask your doc what other meds are available. Is it a GP or a psychiatrist who’s prescribing? You may need a specialist.

I know exactly what you are going through.i have not driving in 7 yrs.You need to talk to someone you trust.about what you are going through. You have to keep a Positive out look.and stay positive.Dont worry be happy
