How do I go about finding a doctor to discuss ADD?

I’m 60 and I do this and I’m not add but do seek a doctor s opinion.

You’ll be lucky to see a doctor but you might get a phone consultation

If you are in the Johannesburg area use Dr Anben Pillay ( lenmed hospital) he is excellent and treats adults with ADD, ADHD, etc

Talk to a psychiatrist… you may have to be referred by your family dr

Could be talking about myself

Your primary care Dr. can help you.

My grandson was 30 when he finally got medication from his primary dr. It has made a huge difference

find a Psychiatrist in your area to diagnose you. They may refer you to a Psychologist just for testing. But it would be worth it for you.

Tiffiny McCluskey She doesn’t have one

I just think you can multitask.

Go see a psychiatrist

Go to your doctor get referral

Go to a specialist, that specializes in Adult ADD, make a list of all your s/s snd how long they have been going on, as well as how they effect your everyday life, especially work. Go prepared, and ask a lot of questions about treatment options, and possibly combination therapy. Don’t name drugs, let the specialist suggest any type of drugs. A Psychiatrist will help you to manage any s/s that are negatively interfering with your life. Education is key to helping yourself too. Research ADD

I also discovered recently that after 36 years I think all my problems that have caused me grief over the years since I was a little girl is really ADD. They have tried labeling me bipolar before and I know they were wrong. Eventually I got properly diagnosed with GAD and Panic Disorder. Those tie in with ADHD. I also really struggled with math in school but was in honors in everything else subject wise and had a speech impediment before kindergarten. I will just skip my main doctor and see a psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD. Good luck!

I am a medical assistant. Start with a primary family doctor. Either he will prescribe for you after you fill out a adhd questionnaire or he will refer you to a neuropsychologist who will do testing and then send him notes on his results so the primary will prescribe.

Sounds like ADHD that’s what I have, you’re not going to get straight into a psychologist unless you have private medical, you need to go to a GP book an appt talk about these things and ask to see a psychiatrist not a psychologist, psychiatrist will do a psych assessment it will take a while but to be properly diagnosed you gotta do it then they from there refer you to the psychologist in whom finished the diagnosis signs it off checks level of severity and prescribes you medication :relieved:

You sound quite normal to me. You just need to learn to focus

Talk to your primary physician. They will refer you to a psychologist. I was diagnosed in my 40’s. I’m taking a med for it. If only I had this available to me when I was in school. It is a game changer for me!! Good luck

Maybe not a popular opinion, but don’t like antidepressants. They usually make things worse. Start by getting off of processed foods. Detox your body of crap. Slow yourself down and if you have to remind yourself of what you were originally doing. Life expects too kuch from us…

Find a family doc, make an appt, tell the doc about your symptoms, and ask that he evaluate you or he’ll do that without having to ask him to… he’ll talk to you about it and he’ll help you or maybe refer you to someone… you won’t be able to get a psych doc without a referral from your family doc and you more than likely will be evaluated with family doc and have it seen about with them.

Just because you get diagnosed doesn’t mean you will be put on meds. They can also teach you alternative ways to help you. I was also in my 50’s when diagnosed . Congratulations for taking care of yourself.

You can refer yourself to primary care. But think waiting lists are long. No harm in ringing your area and getting an idea of waiting times.

First off he talk to your regular doctor he’ll record menu and you’ll go to the doctor that he recommends member you have to have a referral referral

I believe I have ADD. But, I control it with B-Complex. My siblings have it too. B-Complex for me quiets my moods & calms me for what I need to do. Don’t take it every day but maybe 4+ days/week.

I spoke with my GP. She was amazing. I was in my late 30s and had returned to school. She started me on meds after my first semester where I was a D student, and by end of the 2nd semester I was deans list. My point is start with your GP.

Your primary care doctor thats who treats my son and he is 28
