How do you get your kids to brush their teeth? They absolutely despise it and its always a struggle

We told our son “sugar bugs” would attach to his teeth… so had to brush twice a day to combat them

Told mine that the tooth fairy is like Santa, they see everything and absolutely won’t leave you anything for dirty teeth! Then my older daughter thought she’d get smart and actually wrote the tooth fairy a letter. Saying no more coins, to leave only paper money :joy:. Complete with a line for a ‘signature’. Fun times. But no cavities, no braces, so fortunate there

I got my girls the toothbrushes that already have the tooth paste on them. Got off Amazon. My youngest hates the taste of most toothpaste. But these she likes.

Sugar bugs. And also try to make it fun for them. I did sticker books w my kids and once they filled them up from consistent brushing, then they’d get to go get a new toy

Is it a sensory thing? Try different brushes, electric, normal, different tooth pastes, not mint ones, brush together, bring the brushes to them when they are distracted, watching tv etc. let them choose what tooth brushes they want. Get the dentist to chat to them about the importance of it.

You brush the teeth for them. Then say “now you try”

They might not like the taste of mint have you tried one that’s not minty. In the the uk you can get strawberry flavour for children.

There are some things that are non negotiable. If they fight it at first let them have a turn and then you take a turn to ensure GOOD technique! It’s some thing that has to be done twice a day, so they honestly just have to get used to.

Make it family time. Brush your teeth with them. Make it fun!

Show them gore videos of rotten teeth. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I got mine a Colgate Hum toothbrush from Amazon. Worked like a charm!

Show them some pictures of people with rotten teeth and explain this can happen if you don’t take care of your teeth.

Make it funnnn sing a song play music be silly

They have fun toothbrushes, fun toothpaste, and they heard a fun song about it. I’ve only struggled with 1 out of 3 children with brushing teether for a couple weeks, then after that all three loved brushing teeth and I don’t have to say anything about it. They want to do it on their own. Also it may have helped that I showed them what gums/teeth(lack there of) look for people who don’t brush their teeth.
