How do you get your kids to sleep through the night?

How do you get children to sleep through the night? We’re losing it with our 2.5 year old. She is up 3-5x a night in average. She recently started talking in her sleep too and we think she might be having bad dreams, we can’t piece much of it together to figure out what it’s about though. It’s 10pm as I’m writing this and she went to sleep at 8 and has woken up screaming 2x already. Pediatrician hasn’t been very helpful. I’ve tried all the natural soothing/ nighttime calming stuff. We cut her off of milk which seemed to help temporarily. We eat a fairly good clean diet no food dyes. She has slept through the night completely maybe twice in her life. Had a tongue tie released at 5 weeks old. I don’t know what else to try. She wakes up the whole house.

Sounds like night terrors :frowning: my kiddo had them for a long time what helped a lot for us was shutting off screens and avoiding over stimulating 30 min before bedtime… they still happened but lessoned.

Put on lullabies my baby loves them💖

My kids went out side playing all day long, pool time, sprinkler time, then night time came, after the lighting bug catching, a story read to them, then bedtime…& they slept 12 hrs, No TV. They are now 53 & 51…I still hope they are sleeping good

Have you had their ears checked?

Magnesium oil on the sole is her feet may help her wind down and calm down before sleep.

Make sure she’s eat a good protein heavy dinner so she’s less likely to wake up.

Good fats (avocado and olive oil) can also help.

Does she snore, drool or sleep with mouth open? If so ask for a sleep study for sleep apnea. I’m a peds nurse. I ask this bc sleep apnea is common and so destructive. I went thru this with my own child. Didn’t realize it until he was 5. Snoring isn’t normal. Once tonsils and adenoids were our sleeps right thru the night

Try a weighted blanket for kids and definitely get her in for a sleep study.

I.would get a sleep study done

My son was difficult since birth and also at that age. He is 4 now tells me he is tired goes to sleep and then sleeps all night. It’s a phase. All children are different. She will prob grow out of this. He had night terrors and just would wake up screaming every couple of hours :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Our son never slept. Like hardly ever. It was like that from newborn until 2.5-3ish. Like you, we tried EVERYTHING. Nothing was working for us. Pediatrician just kept telling us he would grow out of it. Well, my husband and I couldn’t handle working full time and getting very little sleep. It was becoming unsafe. We finally went the liquid melatonin route and it has been amazing. I would recommend trying that if you haven’t already.

Constipation? Can cause heart burn and gas pains. Try playing calming music at bedtime

Have u tried sleep study I was like this with my now 13 yr when she was little never slept did later night baths with lavender, bed a little later then later did melatonin. Sadly I officially didn’t get sleep till she started preschool at 3 and melatonin. I was going to work on no sleep and if any 1to 2 hrs of sleep . And when she decides to fall asleep before preschool she was up all night till 7:30 am when had to get up.she would also talk .
