How do you potty train a child who has autism? I am struggling with this and no longer know what to do to get him to understand he has to pee on the potty…he is 5
Get your dr to send a therapist or put him in a school that can help him. My daughter’s school potty trained her when I cldnt
My son wanted to try all the time. He followed me every time I went. And when he was diagnosed at 18 months o made a big deal every time I went potty, the dog or the cat or the rabbit. I had a big celebration and special treats. And one day when he was 4 he went running through the house at 9pm screaming “I need pee!” And he went and I had him call great grandma and grandpa (we woke them up lol) and he was so excited. The poop was a harder one because he didn’t like the splash of the water. But we never used a Potty chair. Just the regular potty. I had a friend who used a Potty chair to try with her daughter who was 8 and not going on the potty and when she finally started she wouldn’t transition to a regular toilet so we skipped that step. He just had to realize. I was told to let him sit in soiled diapers (wasn’t an option Everytime he went my ESA would start undressing him to change him) or let him go without a diaper and let it run all over him and clean him up in the bath every time but he had a water sensory so they wasn’t an option either
