I’m 40+5 and need to decide if I want to be induced this week or wait until next week to see if the baby comes on his own. Pros and cons of both???
I would be induced, but I’m an angel mom, so I have my reasons.
My sister was 40+4 and got induced and ended up being in labor for over 40 hours. Are you dilated at all? If you are not I would wait.
I was induced at 41+6. It still took 32 hours of labor while being induced.
Meconium aspiration if baby poops inside can cause pneumonia/respiratory infection. I was induced at 40+4 because of this risk alone.
Being induced was nice. I got to eat before labor, got to drive myself to the hospital, got to shower and braid my hair before delivery, and I got my epidural before I had any terrible contractions
If u are dilated any & effaced at least 70-80%, get induced.
I would induce. There is a new study that was just released by the NIH showing elective inductions does not come with any increased risks of cesarean or risks to the baby&mom. I would maybe ask your provider to do a membrane sweep
Induction is very hard on the body. Your body will know what to do if having a baby so if you can I would wait but it’s your body so it’s your choice.
Lots of walking! I’d say get induced… long walks with some stairs might help! I was 2 cm and wasn’t progressing than I started walking and I was 10 in no time.
I was induced with my first 11 1/2 yrs ago … I had done a lot of research on the baby naturally coming out on their own so they let me go past 10 cm before I tried to push (baby wasn’t in any distress) and I pushed 2 sets of 3 and she was out
I was induced with my first son and it went great. They control your contractions with the Pitocin and can make them more painful and more frequent, but I had an epidural so it went great for me. I was only in labor 6 hours.
I would be induced. I’ve heard of a lot of babies having bowel movements. serious problems can be caused by meconium aspiration.
I love my inductions. So simple. I got pain meds right away.
My friend waited too long to be induced…I wouldnt wait
I have heard more risks about waiting then just getting it started. I was induced with my youngest at 39 weeks he was healthy and labor took about 7 hours. Good luck either way may it be a healthy delivery and all go well
I got induced and was only in labor for 7 hours. If your dilated some you should be fine. Some bodies just need a little push to get them going.
I was induced twice, it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. I labored 8 hours with both. My first got stuck and my second was out in 5 minutes.
My water broke on April the 13th and I had my daughter on the 15th I am lucky she didn’t get no infections and everything’s okay she’s about to be 32
I was induced at 41 weeks+ 2 days. Was in labor for 34 hours before ending with a csection.
I was induced with all 3 of mine and i had to problems and neither did my babies, my 3rd one was a breeze I pushed 15 min with him and he was out
I was induced at 41+4. It went as good as could be expected, minus the fact that I pushed for 2 hours & was utterly exhausted so I kept falling asleep between pushes (which is why it took 2 hours).
My body had 0 signs of going into labor itself. I wasn’t dialated at all.
My OB felt it was safe to wait until after 41 weeks. They had done ultrasounds & I went in for NST’s to make sure baby’s heartbeat was good.
This is a decision you & your OB/midwife need to make together. If she feels it’s safe for both you & baby to carry for another week then so be it.
A due date is NOT a due date, it’s an estimation!!! Unless your placenta is not healthy or other medical issues, why rush it, if baby isn’t ready, baby isn’t ready. I had my last at 42.3 weeks, and wouldn’t change a thing, she was the healthiest baby in the hospital and way more “ready” for the world!
I was induced at 41 and still had to get a c section after 2 days. But mine isn’t the norm because I didn’t dilate and lo had a napsack cord
Getting induced was the best thing I ever did! I was 41 + 5 days. Go for it! I was able to get my epidural earlier when I was only 2cm dilated.
Just enjoy the last few days of pregnancy ans wait to labour naturally when your body is ready. Over and over its proven that induction leads to increased need for forceps, ventouse and or c section. Ive gone 10 days to 16 days “over” with mine and i get how frustrating it is and how ready you are to meet the baby but if hes not comjng hes not ready xxx
I was induced at 40+2 after having irregular contractions for a week and still only being at 1 after that week. I was so ready for the baby to get here! To me, it was so worth getting induced.
I got induced, and it took 48 hours if you feel comfortable waiting I would!
I was induced at 40+5 was high risk. It was nice to have it set up for childcare of other child, be able to eat before. Mine lasted aprox. 24hrs was dilated to 2 and partiality effaced. I was worried about using pitocin as I couldn’t say that I didnt react to it(which is super rare) with my first labor but didnt need to they broke my water and that was all that was needed. Good luck
I was induced at 42 weeks, didn’t dilate so ended up with a c section. I wish I would have waited to go into labor on my own.
Don’t wait. Induction isn’t bad when your body is ready. I was induced with 2 of 3 and my natural was my hardest delivery(biggest baby) No difference for me as far as contractions on or off pitocin. Get it scheduled. Get settled in and have a baby.
I was induced at 39 weeks labored for 6 hrs and contractions pushed the baby out best delivery ever!
With one pregnancy I was induced. Nothing bad came of that.
I was 0% effaced at 40+6. I got induced and it took 26 hours for my baby to born. She hadn’t even dropped yet at that point. They almost did a c-section because there was no progress at all for the longest time. But the last 4 hours went from a 1.5 to 10 to birth.
Is this your first baby? My induction with my first was long and tough. With my second it was easier.
I was induced with both of my children. It went good as expected so it’s your choice!
I would choose to be induced just because the longer you wait, the higher risk it is. That’s just me. If I were you I’d be doing a whole bunch of different exercises
Get that baby out before he breathes in meconium and ends up being the biggest baby in NICU.
I was induced with my first at 41 + 3. Ended up with emergency C-section. Cord was around his neck so he wouldn’t drop. If ur stress test was fine I would say wait.
I would do it sooner rather than later dear.
We waited til 42 weeks with my son. He pooped in me, luckily didn’t ingest it. Now that’s a thing that can happen even at 40 wks but it increases the longer they are in there. I think you need to look at it from a medical perspective and decide for yourself.
I say wait I had to be induced with both of mine and it sucked
I prefer to be induced and I am currently pregnant with number 6 I feel like it’s much faster with induction
I wasinduced with both my girls frist was 40+4 second was 38+5 because i developed pre eclampsia both were perfect i was sealed hard as a rock not dialated at all body should no signs of labor with either of them frist went in at 9 am had her by 11 pm second i went in at 7 had her by 1 inthe afternoon Frist i pushed about 20 mins second not even 3 mins 1 contraction 2 pushes done she came right out and i IMMEDIATELY felt 500times better!!! I lost 50 lbs with ky second because i was so sick my legs swelled so bad i couldnt bend them or walk and they turned purple and blue because the pressure. When ir went down i fwlt lioe someone dropped a truck on my legs she damaged the nerves in my back so bad i still can’t feel my fingers. All worth it for my both my girls were 8lbs
My blood pressure rose with my son at 41 weeks so I was induced July 3rd 2015 he was born July 4th 2015 after 30 hours the induction wasn’t bad I was 9 cm dilated and his heart rate started going down so I had an emergency C-section I would definitely choose induction again if I had to with my daughter I just chose a planned C-section
I was induced at 41 weeks. It was a 27 hour labor that ended up in a c section. My baby didn’t respond well to the pitocin- it put her in distress so they had to manually dilate me with a balloon filled with saline on my cervix. VERY PAINFUL:confounded: - in the end it was worth it to have my baby in my arms and not have to worry about complications of her being in the womb too long but research about induction so you’re prepared for all the outcomes.
I was induced at 38 because he wasn’t moving as much and they didn’t feel he was practicing breathing like he should. I got lucky though. They started the drip at 10am, broke my water at 1:10pm and he was born at 1:17pm. My daughter came on her own. I would have preferred if he had but I went with what the doc felt was best
I read this as you were 40 years old with 5 kids not 40 weeks plus 5 days.exhausted mom brain at work
I let both of my babies come when they were ready.I was 6 weeks over with my first and 3 weeks over with my son. My mom always said the apple will fall from the tree when its ready.
I was induced at 40+2. Pros she was born nd i could finally sleep on my stomach again
I was induced with my first and it was awful. Had my 2nd natural and it went way smoother. But everyone is different. There is no harm in waiting to see if baby wants to come on their own. Other than I’m sure your very uncomfortable at this point.
Remember…doctor timing can be off. I had my first son a week late. And my second son, 2 days late. The doctor wanted me to get induced for my second at like 38-39 weeks. I said no politely and said I wanted to see if he would come on his own.
Induction takes longer from my experience and it’s more painful
I was induced with both of my children and honestly didnt have a bad experience either time. Of course birth is going to hurt but there is absolutely no one on here that can give you advice accurate to your life. If it was me, i would get induced
Had my first natural after water breaking. Was in labor 13 hours
2nd i was induced at 39 weeks and from the time of pulling into the hospital to the time i had her was 5 to 5.5 hours. Both labor experiences were about the same.
Id say be induced if youre that far past 40. Other risks can occur past due
I say get induced, there can be bad consequences of carrying that late. I was induced, just cus it was easiest for the dr. And Honestly that’s how I want all my births. I had no problems. You really need to speak with your dr in length about this. It’s very serious. I really dont feel carrying over is not good. Best of luck and congratulations
I’ve technically been induced with all four of my pregnancies, and all four were amazing births. I’ve never given birth without pitocin, but I’ve heard contractions are way more intense, so that’s something to consider.
I was induced with my son because of how much pain i was in cause of a previous pelvic fracture it was super fast for me but this time I’m 22 weeks pregnant n I want to go in on my own to experience water breaking on my own n having normal contractions not forced (harder faster n more painful) contractions from induction
But induction was definitely a good route for me so far
I wish they would of induced me I carried my son forty three weeks and they decided to go ahead and break my water I was in labor for forty three hours before he came
I was induced with both of my children and the labor was extremely long for both of them.
Induction SUCKS! Did they sweep your membranes yet? I’d go that route first before being induced. I was induced after progressing through labor to 5cm. My sons heartrate dropped from 140 to 60, and the contractions were so intense!
With my first child I was induced at 40 weeks and 1 day. I was in labor for 7 hours and my baby’s heart beat started to drop because my body wouldn’t dilate any more than to a 4 so since my blood pressure was going up and her heart beat was dropping I had to have a emergency c section. She was born fine just had some red marks on her face since she was trying to come out before my was ready. The Dr told me if I would have waited a week to be induced my daughter would have died or possibly both us could have. Now I’m too scared to go any further than 40 weeks because of that reason. I had my second child at 39 weeks by a plan c section and now I’m pregnant with my 3rd and when it’s time to have this one I’m going with another planned c section.
Wait. I’d ride it out baby will come when ready. I was 40 weeks to the day an she was my first that’s after they changed my due date to 4 days before.
As long as there is adequate amniotic fluid and the baby is showing no signs of distress and mom is healthy it’s ok to wait. Your dr. offers their educated opinion of best practices; you should feel free to question their suggestions and their reasoning behind their suggestions.
I was induced three times and went into labor on my own once…going into labor on my own was so much less painful.
The longer you wait, the more risk you and baby are in. But ultimately I would trust what your OB is suggesting.
What did your ob suggest
I was induced and LOVED it. I was able to pick my child’s birthday and also be 100% prepared for it since it wasnt a spontaneous thing.
For me being induced was a lot better all around.
I had mine induction date scheduled for 41 +2 but when I went in to my appointment at 40 +5 they offered to sweep my membranes and I went into labor 6 hours later and had my baby that evening. So next appt you have see if they’ll do that for you, it isn’t 100% effective though.
Induced is very painful, labor pains much worse than letting nature do it
If it’s a big baby get yourself induced
I loved being induced. Everything went very smooth and perfect. I had no issues. My experience was great.
I was induced both times, both my girls came out just fine😊 with my first I was induced 9 days passed my due date and with my second i was induced a week before my duedate!whatever you choose, goodluck to you!
I was induced with my first two, my second one was like 2 days past my due date and I was prepared to go on if everything looked good. My Dr said at the time my fluid was low(later I found out it wasnt that low to be at risk) and Thanksgiving Day was coming up so I let him talk me into induction. After 24hrs of labor(pit/no epidural) my body would not dilate past 5cm(later found out his head was cocked to the side) ended in Csection. My 3rd child with Dr consent I was going for VBAC, I went 10days late but that victory of natural labor and vaginal birth felt awesome. As long as baby & you are doing good try to hang in there!
I waited until 42 weeks and my son was in real danger! He had a bowl movement-inside of me and could have died if he ingested it they waited way to long and I had to be induced anyway because he was not coming on his own I think the sooner the better
Either way inducing doesn’t hurt baby all 3 of mine were induced and all happy and healthy
Con of waiting- your baby is born with 0 blood sugar and has to be on a glycerin drip for a week in NICU… Too big to push out without tearing… Pros of delivering now- holding your baby safely in your arms tonight …cons- more painful labor with meds (but worth it)
Have sex go walking up and downs the stairs. It hurts more being induced then having the naturally. Other then that good luck .
Waiting can cause problems with the baby & your delivery… I’d take the induction.
I had both of mine at 41 weeks and 4 days. I went into labor on my own with my first and was induced with my second. My first labor was definitely way way easier and less painful as well.
I was induced with my 1st and regret it. I got no sleep the day before and the 3 days during and after and was a nervous wreck by the time my baby got here. I had a bad emotional experience. But the nurses and my doc were amazing my whole delivery team was kind and they were helpful
I was induced and I gotta say I think it’d be better lol. I’ve never had another so idk about baby coming on it’s own, but being induced, you know it’s coming and you’re already in the hospital and they are there for the whole labor.
Induce now not healthy to wait so long
Waiting is worse than getting induced. And putting your baby in a lot of danger.
I got induced and 5 1/2 hours later my baby was here, I would get induced
I was 41+2 and I went naturally after two sweeps the previous week , I was scheduled in for induction for 41+3 so it was just in time because I didn’t want to be induced, personally I would wait the out the week if you could x
I was induced and had a short labor
Baby could have a bowel movement inside if you wait too long…
I was induced at 41wks and 3 days!
What does your Dr. think is the safest?
i wouldnt wait any longer
Inducing can be more painful with contractions. But I also was in natural labor for 7 days so idk it’s up to you. It’s not always the best to wait longer than 40 weeks either. Baby can get too big… so on
I was induced at 40+4. My son had pooped inside me and had the cord wrapped around his neck we found as he was delivered. Waiting could have been fatal. Glad I chose induction
I was 41+6 when I was induced. He just didn’t want to come out. Wasn’t until the Dr popped my water bag that jump started my labor
I was induced at 39 weeks with both of my kids they are healthy and both weighed right…
Pros… healthier and your not pregnant anymore
Cons… baby can have a bowel in your uterus and breathe it in, more health issues are possible as well
