How much are you spending on groceries if you have kids in school?

Moms with kids in school, how much are you spending on groceries for them to have lunch/snack’s for school as well as having to spend money to buy dinners and all that at home? I am getting my pick up order ready and I feel like I’m over spending so far $400

Surprisingly I only spend about 400 a month on food and paper products lately. I have a family of 5. I have 2 in school. They eat at school. My job allows me to bring what is left over to bring home (I work in a kitchen) I’m blessed in this aspect.

I live in Alaska and I have a 6 year old, myself, my husband and baby on the way and we easily average $200-$300/week on groceries.

We spend about 200-300 or so a week 2 adults 2 kids and that’s during school or summer…I pack one’s lunch and the other eats lunch at home bc he’s remote….sometimes we spend more just depends

It’s just my son and I. I spend between 125-175€ a week.

Family of 6: 2 adults, 18f, 10f, 9f & 6m. The 3 youngest get free breakfast & lunchat school as all kids do in our county. I spend $500 at the beginning of the month & $100- 200 a week. We don’t buy beef or pork (we buy a whole cow & pig every year from local farmers) we don’t buy eggs (we have chickens) & when the weather permits we have a garden. We live in PNW.

How many in your family? That sounds like too much if you’re like only a family of like 4.

I spend roughly $250 a week
2 kids 2 adults. My daughter takes lunch most days and my son eats lunch at school 2days/week and takes lunch the other 3 days. There is free lunch at school for everyone but it’s not very good or healthy. Husband and I both take breakfast and lunch to work everyday

So since I do the food shopping for everyone ours is around 500 and that’s for both my mom and sons lunches/snacks

About 600 a week. Not including the meat order for 300 a month.
Family of 7

I can’t even imagine grocery shopping for kids right now and I feel for everyone that does! I spend 200 a week on just me and my husband, when we run out of staples "aluminum foil, t.p., paper towels) it goes to 300.

Mine eat lunch at school. I have 3 teenage boys and average about $1500/month in groceries.

As a family of 7 it runs about $400-$500 a week. That includes household products, formula, diapers & pets.

My kids (4 of them, ages 4-12) eat breakfast & lunch at school so they just take a snack then have snacks and supper at home and of course all meals on the weekend plus me & my husband and we spend about $180 a week and that’s really budgeting in a low cost of living state

Nope not at all we do that about every 2 -3 weeks or just a little over that and that’s for me my husband and our 2 kids

About $600 a month, 2 adults, 10 year old, 2 year old. I pack my 10 year olds lunch and my 2 year old eats at daycare.

I meal plan all dinners for the week and try to make enough that my husband and I have left overs for lunch. There is sandwiches and microwave meals for the days there are ya leftover. Snacks are just what’s on sale (yogurt, fruit, chips, granola bars).

2 adults and 4 kids(3 in school)…I do inhome daycare as well, but with both we easily spend $700-800 a month…

We are a family of 5. I typically spend about $250-$300 a week on everything. I do a school snack haul at Costco right before school starts and spend about $200 but that lasts them their first few weeks back to school. Our entire parish gets free breakfast and lunch at school, so they only bring lunch if they don’t like what will be offered that day. They typically eat breakfast here and breakfast at school lol. Our average grocery bill per month ranges from $950-$1200

Once a month we do a big haul worth $400 on a average & then spend a budget of $100-$150 every week just to keep up

12 year old, 6 year old, husband & me

We have a family of six with four kids in school and that’s about what we spend on groceries whether they’re in school or home The prices of everything have become ridiculous, it’s not that you are over spending is that the prices of everything are sky high even if you go with the bare necessities, you’re spending a minimum of 200 to 250 And that’s probably even too low

Family of 6 here . I usually spend $200-$300/ week on groceries not including our Costco trips .

Family of 6, if I’m really budgeting I can make 200-250 last a week but 350 a week is closer to what we spend. Crazy that people are spending entire house payments just to feed their families. :weary: also my high schoolers lunch bill was almost 400$ last year for public school lunch!!

Family of 5 300-350 a week
Lunch and dinner at home
Husband takes breakfast as well
Meal planning and comparing grocery ads helps us so much

Family of 4 and we spend about $80 a week on school breakfast, lunch and snack.

About $300 a week if they are all 3 packing lunch every single day :smiling_face_with_tear:

We spend about 450/every two weeks. But that’s without meat bc we harvest a moose or two/year.

We used to speand about $300 a week but its now gone up to about 400 depending if i need animal food. We are a family of 5 my little one is just on breastmilk atm

It’s just my 3 year old and I. I spend atleast $100 a week easily.

School lunches are free in my area, so mine don’t pack a lunch. But they’re required to have 2 snacks a day sent in so i buy gummies, goldfish or the big boxes of chips in bulk & it saves us on snacks that way. As for groceries we average in about 200 a week for 4 of us, i shop at save a lot & it helps cut back on cost of meat. I buy large packs of meat that can be split into 2 meals, & the family size bags of frozen veggies.

We are a family of 7. I try my best to stay at about $700 a month. They get breakfast at school, so I do lunch, dinner and snacks. With the way prices are I’ll go over probably $100-$200 on the months I’m stocking up on meat

My daughter gets hot lunch at school. I refuse to buy a bunch of food that will just end up not being eaten and going bad in the fridge.

My son eats for free at school. All kids eat free at the schools where we live so it saves alot.

Now 200.to300 now but before now I was spending 200 or less every 2 weeks. For a family of 4 in house.

Yep, it’s expensive. Even more when having children.

3 adults (1 senior citizen, myself who’s breastfeeding and my husband) and 15 and 9 yr old boys. I’d say I spend about 1k-1250 a month depending on sales and if I’m stocking up on meat.

Family of 4 (1 adult 3 kids) $300 a week in just basic groceries, cereal, corn dogs, scrapple, lasagna, veggies, oatmeal, fresh fruits, chicken, mac cheese etc….does not include drive thru’s when we are on the go. I pack kids turkey & cheese sandwiches cookies grapes, milk…. They do buy lunch alot too.

Family of 5, and I spend about $400-$450 a week on groceries and household supplies. But that is with super budgeting and 2 different stores, price checking for which ones has the lower prices. If I didn’t budget, and didn’t puck and choose what’s more important than pther things each week, it’d be about $500-$600. But I live in California, so everything is super expensive here

During the summer we spend 200 to 250 every week for groceries. It goes down a tad when they go back to school. But with late night practices and games it evens back up because we eat out.

Yeah it’s rough; we do a lot of sandwiches and fresh fruit and veggies for snacking. Even with using Aldi’s I’ve been hating doing any grocery shopping; the basics are over 100$ anymkre

My budget has blown out to 200-300 since everything went up but that’s for 3 adults and 3 children (10 to 15) and eating healthy but i could probably cut that down it i really had to stretch it. Australia. Prior to the hikes I was managing 150-200.

i shop at aldi and spend about 140 a week

700 a month for 2 adults and 2 children, and that includes everything.

Our kids have free loch at school thankfully. They didn’t used to but in my state they’re still doing free lunch this year. Before COVID I would spend about $150 a week on their snack/lunch items. Now that they have free lunch I just put $10 a week in each school lunch account so they can get treats or extras if they need to.

Waay too much :joy:
All their snack packages cost 10 dollars each. It’s insane.

$500 maybe more but I try to shop the cheaper grocery stores :woman_shrugging:t4: it’s real out here :weary:

Family of five, 3kids 2adults, we homeschool so the kitchen is never closed :expressionless: $700 a month is all I can allow us for food. We don’t go over. Many times I may come in just under. A lot of left overs, a lot of repeats, and not much extras. I try to grow what I can. $700 sounds like a lot but it breaks down to like $175/week. For five people. Times suck.

$400 a week! I’m so fkn over it Biden!!!

I don’t usually make lunches. I give them money because they prefer that over sandwiches everyday. Only 2 kids in school now as the other graduated.
Probably $100 a week in lunch money and anywhere from $600-$1000 a week in groceries.

Highly recommend this app! Pair it with your grocery stores sales and there’s so much saving! I’ve received almost$100 back in the 2 weeks I’ve used it. Message me if I can help get you saving during these stupid times of inflation!

Family of 6 about 280$ on tight budget weeks, to 450$ if we have extra to stock up. This is weekly.

We have a family of 8 and we spend about 1800-2200 a month on groceries, depending if I’m stocking up on meat. To keep it on the low side of that budget I also try and make the kids as many homemade snacks for school as I can otherwise we’re on the high side of that price.

Lol. I have two teen boys that were in school last year and two that were under 4 at home. I was spending over 1000 easy a month for school and home.
Now that my four year old son is going to school in September with the two teen boys, it’ll probably be 1500 or more for both total.
Were in ontatio Canada to give you an idea for cost of living

Family of 7 here, 2 adults and 5 children (ages 3yr to 16 yr) my school age kids eat breakfast at home, 2 of them take a lunch daily and the high schooler eat at school, all 5 have daily snacks and our monthly food bill is around 1200$
Depending on where I’m shopping, but if I catch meat on sale I’m grabbing it. When I do stock up on meats without sales I usually spend an extra 300/400$ I do alot of coupons too.

2 kids 2 adults. I spend about $700 a month currently but that’s because I make the kids lunches and breakfast for camp. When they go back to school they’ll eat breakfast lunch and snack there so it’ll be a bit less.

I’ll let you know when we start shopping this school year. Prices have gone up so much since last school year.:sob:
