How much should I pay a nanny?

What’s the norm to pay a nanny that comes to your home per day?

Pretty vague… how many hours, age of children, cash or on the books…

it will vary A LOT based on your location. a nanny in NYC will probably cost 5 times more than a nanny in Tampa. if there’s a local moms group in your area i’d check with them - they’d have more ideas about what it’d cost. in my area (socal) a full time 6a-6p nanny five days a week is about $1000 a week. or about $15 an hour.

Depends on state, on age of child/ren, on hours. What is fair in one place would be wildly underpaid in another place.

Depends where you live. Southern California nannies are paid anywhere from $15-$25+ an hour and most are under the table while some are taxed.

Not much. A nanny shouldnt be making more than you an hr. And I think people forget that… if a nanny made more what’s the point of.working. I’d say 5 bucks an hr

Depends on the responsibilities you are putting on them, how many kids, etc.

Part time nanny …and most all families have paid 15 an hr. The ones I’m with now are $11 an hr but only one child.

I was a nanny in Ann Arbor, MI for 10 years. The kids were 1,3,5 when I started and I made $18 an hour and my nanny family paid my taxes on it.

To anyone suggesting below minimum wage … that’s wrong. This is a job too and needs to be treated as such. If you can’t afford to pay the proper wage for an employee, then take your child to headstart or daycare. A nanny is a luxury.

I did this about 6 years ago and was paid $10. per hr for 1 child. It would probably be closer to $15. now.

When I did it I was getting paid $500 a week for 5 days. This was for school age children (12, 14, 16)

Lmao I think people’s conception of being a nanny is HILARIOUS. Put that aside, I’m a newborn/infant specialist, and a newborn/infant nanny and I am payed $16.25/hour. It depends on the age of the child, the hours, the experience she has, and how many children.

$25 /$30 a hour depends on size of kids also

I wouldn’t pay a nanny or daycare more than $200/week for 5 days business hours. Anything more than that and they aren’t worth it to me.

£10 an hour I’d happily pay up to £15 for the right person

I live in lousiana and daycare for 2 is 1200 a month. Nanny would cost me almost 2000 a month.

When I nanny or babysit it depends on how many kids and how many days a week. For a typical random day I charge between $8-$10 an hr. If I’m doing it 3-4 days a week I charge $260 for the week

I paid mine 30.00 a day for 8 hour shifts for 2 kids. I allowed her to use my wifi and eat/drink whatever she wanted and then I would give her an extra 10 a day if she cleaned anything. She was satisfied with that pay.

I was a full-time nanny up until August of this year. Made $600/week salary. I’m in Middle TN.

I was given 200 a week for almost full-time care and cleaning the home

I pay $ 200 a wk for taking 1 child to the babysitter and 8 hrs of that the child is in school

The state of Washington pays me $2.55 an hour. I do everything from homework help to drs appointments, I’m also the one they call when there is an issue at school. Weekdays I feed them a snack, dinner and dessert. Weekends I do 3 meals a day plus snacks. :woman_shrugging: if that’s what the state sets for a pay rate for in home childcare providers then why would anyone expect to earn more than that?

Keeping in lind that a nanny isnt to cut costs instead of putting your kid in day care, its a luxury so that you dont HAVE to put your kids in daycare. It should cost more.
You’re paying for exclusivity. If you paid 200 to put your kid in a home daycare, for example, and the person was watching two other kids for the same price she’s making 600 and you wouldn’t turn up your nose at her and tell her to re-evaluate her profession. You’re paying someone to do the same
job but devoted to one kid; you should absolutely pay very well. Its a luxury.
Even for a young person with little experience anything less than $350 a week is pretty crummy of the employer.

Rent: $425 per month
Water: $25 per month
Electric:$150 per month
Groceries: $100 per week ($400 per month)

  • gas + insurance+ wifi+ phones etc.
So no, some moms can’t afford $300+ a week, some cant even afford $100. These moms are working their asses off to support their children so how about you hop off your high horse and realize that not everyone is made of money, we’re all just trying to do the best we can. At the end of the day all that matters is your child is safe and loved.

Depending on what you want the nanny to do if she is watching your little one doing laundry and cleaning and cooking $15.00 to $20.00 an hour

Call Nanny Connection and they can tell you what to pay your nanny
