How to increase milk supply?

That happened to me too. I heard it’s normal. Just latch baby often, drink water and make sure you’re keeping up on eating

There’s cookies, check Walmart or wherever you shop should have some, they’re specifically to help moms produce more milk. I don’t remember what they’re called. Also oatmeal, eat it before bed and drink a body armor drink or even a glass of water with it. Staying hydrated is so important when you’re breastfeeding. You got this mama! Instead of trying to pump nonstop, try to get baby to drink more frequently, they will get more than pumping. Then, give it a half hour and then pump. Also massaging them will help too. You got this mama! XOXO

The lactation cookies at Walmart helped me and I was able to continue breastfeeding my son until after he was a year old. Make sure your drinking lots of water, too.

are you exclusively pumping or nursing straight from the breast as well? if nursing from the breast as well and baby is still having the right number of dirty diapers and acting satisfied then no worries cus that is right around the time that you regulate your supply so totally normal to not pump as much on top of nursing

Pumping is not a Good indication of how much milk you have at all!! Your body doesn’t respond as well as too the baby. But I swear drink tons of water and OAT MILK or oatmeal , that helps and don’t forget to eat - eat more than u usually would . I’m going on 15 months breast feeding and every time I would pump I would barely get anything, my babe is doing jus fine , jus nurse often and don’t stress about pumping …

Oatmeal cookies - drink lots of fluids - eat an extra amount of calories - get plenty of rest. Gatoraid, water, warm compresses, squeeze out every drop when you shower. Skin to skin with baby helps a lot.

Well, if It helps drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits and vegetables… Highly recommend oatmeal and chicken soup

They eat different amount than what you are able to pump out. It’s not the same and they are way more efficient as sucking and the body responds so please don’t assume your baby is only able to get 2 Oz. If baby is thriving and gaining weight they’re getting enough milk.

Lactation cookies. I don’t remember which one body armor sells a certain flavor that’s supposed to help also.

Blue gator aid chug it. I had a similar situation and was able to go back to bfing exclusively my twins. Also, when I did get my period, my supply tanked but come back

2 oz sounds about right. Babys get more out than the machine, I was in the same boat stressing till I almost dried up until I understood that babies only need 1oz per hour, out bodies make 4-5 oz in the beginning and it’s called an over supply, once baby gets a bit older our body will start to regulate itself and only produce as much milk as baby needs. If you still think your not producing enough try putting baby on yhe boob more often. It’s all about supply and demand. I stopped pumping because it would just stress me out, now I just breastfeed (my oldest almost 2 and I have an 8 months old as well, boob is still 95% of her diet) if you have any questions feel free to pm me, good luck mama😊

Drink lots and lots and lots…water, milk, & Body Armor is great!

Why is there a formula crisis?

Eventually you wont be feeling big full boobies anymore. It should still be enough milk. Try latching baby tho if i have the time. They get things working quicker than a pump

My production would tank just before I got a period then increase after

Expensive, but works wonders!! I don’t take 6 pills as per instructions. Just 2 pills a day

Unfortunately some people fry up fast. Seek professional advice

I vary in my supply from 5oz every pump to 2oz. It really means nothing. I can pump and get nothing and then my baby will latch and he will open his mouth and have milk in it. He has been breastfed for 10 months so far. Don’t even compare pumping to how much baby gets. I swear it’s why so many moms stop and think they aren’t making enough.

Oatmeal helps with milk supply

Some women do not over supply, your body will regulate and eventually pump out just what baby needs.

Drink a glass of apple juice or chocolate milk, or orange juice, then breast pump. Pour the breast milk into a milk jug, then have sex. Get ready for milk to spray like 2 fire hoses & keep the breast pumps touching your breast the whole time. But don’t lay on your back. Breast facing the floor. Not touching the floor. Hold the breast pumps on your breast. Empty the milk into a gallon breast milk only jug before having sex again & again & again. I could breast pump 12 ounces, have sex & boom have 12 more oz. of breast milk produced. Breast pumps are sold at Target. Get the most powerful kind. I breast pumped 12 oz. every 3 hours. 91 gallons of breast milk with in 4 months after my baby was born. Breast milk last in the fridge 7 days, freezer of fridge 6 weeks, deep freezer 6 months. So 4 months of breast milk could feed 2 babies 8 months. Powdered goat’s milk & formula also worked. When the baby was 1, cow’s milk worked. I asked my daughter’s doctor when I could add cereal, apple juice, tomato juice, apple sauce, blended bananas etc. reduce stress. Stay hydrated. Breast pump then go for a 10 minute walk. Take a 30 min hot bath. The next day drink a glass of juice, breast pump, go for a 10 minute walk at 10 A.M. & 4 P.M. Have a 30 min hot bath. The next day breast pump, go for a 20 min walk at 10 A.M. & 20 minutes at 4 P.M. take a hot 30 min bath. etc. The next day breast pump, go for a 40 minute walk at 10 A.M. then at 4 P.M. Then a 30 min hot bath.

Massages and hot showers.

Talk to someone from the LaLeche League. If they still exist. They have encouraged breast feeding for many years. They may have ideas on what to do. Also talk to your doctor. There may be meds to help. Stay hydrated. That helps. If it turns out that you can’t produce more milk, ask your pediatrician about using Dr Spock’s formula recipe.

2 12 Oz cans evaporated milk
32 Oz water
2Tbsp Karo Syrup
3 ml Poly Vi Sol vitamins
Mix thoroughly.
Consult your physician before using. This is an old recipe sent home with babies from the hospital in the old days.

Hot showers and lactation cookies

Get your iron checked, oatmeal/oat milk, brewers yeast, coconut water ( if you don’t like it mix it with water and a flavoring packet), power pump

Drink tons of water. There’s also treats you can make with brewers yeast they helped me

Check thyroid and tpo antibodies

Brewers yeast tables is what I eas told with mine.

Drink plenty of water. You can also get tablets of the Dr to help keep your milk supply going

Mix body armor drinks with some coconut water in a 32 oz cup and drink 2 of these a day.

Pink stork lactation candy worked well for me.

My doctor legit told me to drink one beer a night before bed to keep my milk flow up. By morning my tatas would be swollen and ready to go

Just keep doing what your doing. Relax, breath! Eat Oatmeal and lots of fruits and veggies. Hot showers and lots of skin to skin with baby. When the baby cries listen and wait… You will feel the milk producing. The longer you wait the more will produce. Yes it hurts. It will hurt for a good two months…

I nursed my baby for 3 1/2 years. As soon as I stopped immediately had allergy issues. She is 8 now.

I also drank nothing but water! Lots of water!

Extra water, diet change, steel cut oats, brewer’s yeast pills, milk thistle pills, fenugreek pills, snacks for increasing milk supply, etc.

You can also call your OB/GYN and get a prescription to increase your milk supply.

This doesn’t have to be the end of your journey.

Drink lots of water , feed baby often rather than pump and rest as much as possible .

Smell your baby and do as much skin to skin as you can.

I want to know more about this “awful pain” you’re experiencing. Talk to a Dr about that and watch your temperature. Mastitis can be deadly if left untreated.

I would definitely talk to your doctor about the awful pain. But for supply, you’re going to think I’m crazy, but trust me on it, drink a dark beer like Guinness. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a little more. I know it sounds crazy, but it works. My doctor recommended it to me. And no you don’t have to pump and dump.

Your pump is not an indicator of supply.
At 6 weeks your supply will regulate to what it thinks your baby needs.
I would also check flange sizes as your breasts change size with breastfeeding.

This is the time when your body regulates how much you need to make. I was told by my HV I’d need to use formula but the paed did a check and I was making enough. Drink lots, eat properly and look at a picture of your baby before feeding them. If you pump whilst stressed you will get about two ounces. I found even with an electric pump I only made just enough for my baby. Feed from both breasts, ten minutes maximum on each one and don’t compare yourself to formula x your breasts really won’t get as full as before and it’s nothing to worry about…it’s supposed to happen! I stopped needing breast pads about then and fed for another eighteen months without top ups.

Let baby nurse and drink a gatorade.

You may have evened out your supply and demand. Sounds like its regulate.

Latching gets the best suction and the babies saliva tells the body what it needs.
An ounce and hour is normal.

If you need to pump, first thing in the morning and after feedings.
Oatmeal, healthy fats, increased hydration
Increase calories in general.

With my first my daughter wouldn’t latch and I had to pump for her, a similar thing happened and my supply went down so my doctor gave me a medication and just the next day my supply was booming after taking it. I also drank mother’s milk tea which seemed to work great.

Are you also eating enough healthy calories and drinking plenty to stay hydrated? Not eating enough can cause supply issues my doctor told me. I was trying to diet after I had my first and he said that could have been why my supply went.

Nursing always does better than just pumping. Hot shower will encourage milk flow, soft music to relax, chamomile tea and nurse

Talk to a lactation specialist and have baby actually drink from the breast as much as possible only the baby can get the thick heavy milk from the furthest glands that trigger your body to produce milk. Also pumping is purely extra if the baby feeds on the breast during the day

I just doubled up on my vitamins, worked great

This happened I was getting 6 oz a pump dropped to 1-2oz. I let him latch all day and pumped after each feed too just keep getting that stimulation. Stay hydrated. I now get 4-5 oz a pump except mornings I get double. But just nurse often and pump a few mins after each nurse. Also make sure you are eating! It’s easy for us to forget to eat during this time but have granola bars handy, some fruits and veggies and get those calories in.

Old wives always said to drink tea,to increase breast milk, sit down relax and feed, and sip some ice tea

Pump every 2 hours on the dot inbetween feedings whenever you can… mine tanked for a few days and comes back up it slows down when my period comes or I’m not feeling well… or even stress it slows down… key is to pump every 2 hours and feed on demand ! I also eat a lot of protein it helps! And I take fenugreek and mothers Mongolia

My doctor told me that pumping does not produce the same reaction in your breast as breastfeed therefore you will produce less milk .the more the baby actually sucks on your breast the more milk you should make

Oatmeal, body armor, blue Gatorade and mother’s milk tea helped me immensely.

Its normal hun your body is adjusting to your baby’s needs pumping never gives you what your baby actually eats so please don’t judge your supply by that talk to a lactation consultant I know there’s cookies n supplements you can take I had to drink 1 beer n wait to help my supply with baby #3 and with baby #4 I had yo supplement with formula FYI he was a big baby with a big appetite hang in there its hard but worth it

Latch as much as you can. Pumping some times screws people.

Do you have any flu like symptoms with the pain? If you do, go get checked for mastitis. They gave me an antibiotic and said to keep nursing. That was 17 years ago, though.

Have you not seen your Doctor?

Your supply regulates between 4-6 weeks. I’m guessing that is what happened. With my youngest, my boobs never felt full and I never leaked after my supply regulated. I bf for 2&1/2 years. Latch your baby as much as possible and continue taking your prenatal vitamin and make sure your eating and drinking enough. As long as your baby is having good diaper output then I wouldn’t worry about it.

My doc told me to,drink a big glass of Guiness beer at 4 everyday bcz my milk was scant around dinner time. Take a nap, increases milk. Every day drink 80 oz of water or fluid too.

Believe it or not that happened to me and the doctor said to drink a non-alcoholic beer the barley and the hops in it actually help you produced more milk

My sister was told the same thing back in the early 50’s.

I ate milk chocolate. My mom said I’d be sorry. She said I’d have an over production of milk…and boy did I ! My hubby called me a jersey cow. ( I wanted to smack him.) I never had any problem producing milk

Lots of water intake

Be sure to stay hydrated. Your body needs more hydration now. Drink and drink water. Oatmeal also helps, if you can have it for breakfast.

Breastfeeding is supply and demand. No matter what supplements or dietary changes you make your supply won’t increase if your baby isn’t latching frequently or you’re not pumping. Baby should latch or you should pump for minimum 15mins every 3-4 hours (whether milk is coming out or not). If you’re not doing one or the other your supply will not increase.

Nothing really increases your milk supply other than supply and demand pump/ nurse more and you’ll make more milk. Stay hydrated and eat enough calories

You should probably invest or rent a good breast pump they can help. I used one exclusively as I couldn’t get my son to latch on and it was frustrating but the pump does the work for you. I stopped pumping 5 months before my son’s first birthday I had a freezer full to last.

Pump more frequently and make sure to stay hydrated and keep calories up. For me I got bored with water so I drank body armour (coconut water) in their many flavors my favorite was the orange and another that was pineapple. Delicious

Breastfeeding is supply and demand.
So you need to nurse more to get more milk. Baby saliva and suction sends messages to milk production team.

Depending on age of baby, nurse and/or pump every 3hrs. .5 Oz to an 1oz an hr is normal.

Drinking milk won’t increase your supply unfortunately. Talk to a lactation consultant if you can, they will have heaps of info on increasing supply and could help you to wean off formula top ups once you bring your supply up. The best way to increase supply is to keep removing milk so if you are breast feeding feed as much as you can and make sure that latch is good. If you’re pumping you could try add in a power pump. It’s hard hard work especially when trying to look after a baby at the same time but it’s totally possible

A good healthy diet. Lots of water. Lots of stimulation to breasts. Even a hot shower to breasts. Breastfeeding often and pumping in between. The more stimulation you get the more milk you produce

The more you nurse the more milk you produce . Period .

Here to add— mama, don’t beat yourself up if you’ve done everything “by the books” and your supply isn’t increasing. Time once was, I did full days of skin to skin, power pumped all day, nursed on demand, ate the reccomend foods and drank tea that tasted like crap… all to find out that none of it mattered anyway because my Prolactin levels never rose after delivery.
Fed is best, and you’re doing great.

Coconut water helps, as well as breast feeding and pumping in between. Also try fenugreek supplements.

Oatmeal cookies or Oatmeal in general will help, but for the milk, to make it taste more like regular cows milk, you can either mix it 50/50 with cows milk or maybe buy heavy cream for the oat milk

Drink more water and eat more food bteast milk is also supply on demand the more you breastfeed or pump the more milk you will have
