I only could for a few weeks and even then had to supplement with formula. When it starts making you miserable, quit. I was a much better mommy when I wasn’t worrying about it anymore.
Drink tea Regular tea it help the milk supply and the more to breastfeed the milk will keep coming
How old is baby? Some people can’t pump as much as they actually produce, the baby usually get more milk directly from the breast
Pumping has absolutely no correlation as to how much milk you’re producing! Just keep putting baby on your boob, it’ll help milk production. Pumping isn’t the same stimulant as baby. Don’t worry mama, you’re doing just fine! Especially if baby is growing fine and the doctor has no concerns!
I nursed all 5 of my kids. I could never pump. I got nothing. But, I successfully fed all 5 kids. Don’t pump, nurse.
Pump out put is not an indication of what you are producing as it isn’t the same as babies mouth. Also some women don’t respond to a pump. Also phlange size plays a big part in pumping. La leche league meetings was a huge help for me.
Both mine got half breasmilk and half formula until they hit 4 months and then both went to just formula.
Latching is a sure way that your milk will come in. Keep pumping for now. Latch every time baby is hungry and pump right after
pumping never estimates the amount of your supply!!! everything is fine unless your baby isn’t gaining weight!
I couldn’t pump as my supply was just enough to feed her at feedings… only way I could actually pump anything was at night when she was sleeping.
I couldn’t pump for shit but I was producing just fine… some mamas just don’t respond well to a pump. Baby is much more effective than a pump
I was like that i did mothers milk tea for the first 6mo. But i had to do both formula and breastfeed cuz i didnt produce the fatty milk…but i made it to 13 months with my daughter dont give up its ok to have to do both…my daughter is 5 now and bery smart and very healthy
If you’re able just put your baby on the boob when ever they seem hungry, you’ll drive yourself crazy worrying about how much you pump!
I had the same problem but I kept on breastfeeding my son then since I wasn’t producing enough I had to supplement for a couple months but I kept on breastfeeding. I stopped pumping and just kept nursing it’s a supply and demand thing I was told and now my son is almost 2 and still nursing! I never was able to pump more than an ounce total from both but my son kept trying and eventually he was getting what he needed. Eat lots of food and drink tons of water!!
Try pumping every 2-3 hours for a few days.
There are alot of foods, teas and supplements that boost your supply. Bananas and oatmeal is my go to especially when my menstrual cycle is coming or I’m on it. Fenugreek tea or supplements is great too. If it’s too the point it’s making you upset, then it becomes upsetting to all. There’s nothing wrong with giving baby formula.
I had the same problem with both of my girls, I was disappointed too and gave them what I could for about 2 months and supplemented with formula! They are both perfectly healthy smart kids, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not doing the most by not being able to produce!!
Get a baby scale. Weigh the baby before and after feedings. You can see how much their getting. If growth and weight aren’t effected then you should be okay to not pump.
I had that issue also. I was only able to breastfeed for a month and my body just stopped producing milk. My daughter is now 2 and very healthy. You’re doing great mama!
Baby needs to latch on part of the day. Drink water, lots of water, Oranges, orange 100% juice, oatmeal cereal, oatmeal cookies. Eat often/healthy snacks.
Pumping I get barely anything unless my son is attached on the other side! But as long as he gains weight your good! When he eats I can see the milk on the side of his lips so I stopped worrying about how much I could actually pump. I only pump now for a supply while I’m at work
I went from being able to pump 4 oz after BF every time to not being able to get anything, but my toddler could still get milk when she nursed. It’s strange for sure.
Try eating a crap ton of oatmeal.
It happens. I never could produce more than that. Formula it was. Fed and happy baby is better than starved baby
I only pump like 2ozs when I do pump but ik my baby is getting enough to eat cuz he’s a chunk. Pumping doesn’t show how much you make. As long as baby is gaining weight and healthy then you have nothing to worry about.
Pumping isn’t a good measure of if the baby is getting enough to eat.
You may not respond well to the pump. Are the flanges properly fitted?
Go to a lactation consultant
Drink a ton of water. I couldn’t breastfeed and looking back I believe it was chronic dehydration. I never took care of myself and usually got by on a couple cups of coffee a day. Drink a lot of water every day.
I didn’t produce more than a quarter of an ounce a day, so I had to formula feed. You do whats best for you and baby
Pumping is not an indication to how much milk you’re making. Also there are so many reasons to not get enough milk out. Suction being on to low or high, your flange the wrong size, your pump parts might need to be cleaned or replaced, you just dont react to a pump.
I tried it all, I didn’t sleep for days. Nothing worked. It’s a genetic issue passed down. My mom, my aunt, my cousin… We all had issues producing enough milk. I wasted so much time and blamed myself. But after the second kid and all the trouble, I knew I had done everything and it’s not my fault. My 10 year old and my 6 month old are both healthy, hearty, and of a good height and weight. 10 year old has been to the dr for illness less than a handful of times. Whatever you choose to do, if you cry over it, it’s not worth it.
I didn’t respond to a pump well at all! I would pump every 2-3 hours at work and get maybe 6 oz on a good day. My daughter breastfed when we were together and was getting plenty. I did have to supplement with formula while she was at daycare (after BM was used up) but home and weekends she got the boob
The more the baby eats, the more you will produce. There are cookies and things you can eat that increase your production as well. I was never able to pump very much either, but I am still breastfeeding and my daughter is 1 1/2. Sometimes you just can’t get extra, just the amount they eat, so unless they skip a feeding you might not build up any extra.
I produce about 2-2.5oz out of each side when I pump. But as previously stated, a pump isn’t a good measure. It doesn’t fully empty your breasts. As long as baby has at least 6 pee diapers a day and is gaining weight properly, then he or she is getting the exact amount of milk he or she needs. If you have concerns, speak to your lactation consultant. I spoke to mine almost on a daily with different concerns and we did a couple of weighted feeds. She always reassured me and now we are almost 6 months into breastfeeding. He eats from both sides at every meal and is very content.
Use a manual pump. I always got more with one. But if you are trying to get a stock pile, I pumped the one baby didn’t nurse off of. And also drink water, it really does havean affect on how much you produce
You’re not going to be able to keep your supply up if you’re only pumping, the baby’s suckling is what activates the production and it’s only as the baby needs, relax, easy right and drink plenty of water and put the pump aside until you’re flowing good.
A baby will always get more from your breast than a pump will. If you feel like you’re not pumping enough put your baby back on your breast and pump on the other said while their feeding. Or try pumping right after they feed
Keep pumping! And occasionally breastfeed just because they cant pull more out than a pump can. After breastfeeding, pump again. Dont get discouraged, the more you stress the less you produce! I couldnt keep up for the first 2 months and had to supplement, but right after giving her a bottle of formula, i pumped. I had to pump every 2 hours for at least 30min for a full 24hrs and it boosts your supply! I also use Earth Mama Milkmaid tea! 1-3 cups a day with some honey in it.
I started that way too. I was frustrated bc I couldn’t pump more than 2 oz. It will take a while but if you keep going at it, it will slowly go up. First of all, stay hydrated and drink lots of water. Also be stress free bc I know I was super stressed out(my sisters in law were the cause) and the moment they left alone after an issue we had, I started producing more. It took me almost a month and a half to produce a lot. My son is 8 months now and im still feeding him. There are also lactation cookies and a tea you can buy. If that doesn’t won’t in the end, go to a lactation consultant but remember, it’s ok. If you just can’t produce more it’s ok, you’ll still be a great mom
