How to increase milk supply?

I’m five months pregnant, and I know it’s still early to be thinking about breastfeeding support. But I was wondering if there’s any one who has troubles breastfeeding and what helped them. This is my 3rd pregnancy after five years. I breastfed my older two girls, but my Milk only lasted roughly 3-4 months before it dried up, and I ended up having to switch to Formula. When I had my oldest, she had a babysitter, but I still pumped at work, and she never had Formula until I ran out; my 2nd child I was a stay at home parent, so she had the breast whenever she wanted, and I only pumped when she was sleeping through the night but again dried up. I would love to be able to breastfeed our 3rd child; I plan on being a stay-at-home mom still, but what can I do to avoid drying up. My husband says he doesn’t care whether she’s breastfed or Formula-fed as long as he’s able to feed her too. And again I know it’s still early to be worrying about feeding but I just want to be prepared.

Check out the herb fenugreek! Made me smell like maple syrup, but it did help with my milk supply!

You wont have milk until baby is born, but once it does: Supply and demand and hydration.
Milk is liquid, so if you’re low you wont produce.
Your body makes enough that it thinks your baby needs, so if you increase the demand then your body will increase to meet it.

Nurse, nurse, nurse. Google cluster feeding. They eat more during growth spurts. That grows your supply. I drank a Sam Adams every now and then. The dark brew helped my supply. Drink TONS of water too!!!

Don’t worry about it yet; your milk will come when baby comes. If you’re still having trouble after a few days after baby comes, speak to your doctor. I wanted to breastfeed my son(like I did my daughter) but fate had different ideas so we supplemented then ended up formula feeding. Either way your baby gets fed is good. But don’t worry too much just yet, mommy :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:

Pump between feeding! And plenty of water and body armor

I lucked out so much this third go round. The first two children I tried to breastfeed I couldn’t get a good supply to save my life so I didn’t have much hope it would last longer than a couple weeks this time, especially being nearly seven years since the last time I tried. This time we are eight months in to it and it’s been a dream. Ample supply without having to do anything to make it that way. My baby has latched like a pro since the first try. My point is that you should stay optimistic and positive, it may just work out easier than you think it would.

Latch even when they aren’t hungry, or pump pump pump. (Keep lanolin around )

Pump on a strict schedule I pump every 3 hours no matter what., I eat ½ cup of oat meal every day, brewers yeast in my shake with a different kind of oat meal…breast feed when you can…I am worki g 18+ hour days and pumping as well as nursing when I am home and have milk everywhere day and night.

See a lactation consultant asap after the baby is born. They are amazing!

Just drink tons of water. Seriously that is all you need mama

Pumping seems to make it dry up fast. The only time I had good supply is when my daughter took the breast

Hydration, eating and oats. Avoid fenugreek. It dried me up within days of taking it.

They have these cookie things at walmart my daughter said helped a lot. When I had babies we drank a beer and then didn’t nurse for 8 hours.

Meet with an ibclc to ensure baby is transferring milk efficiently. If not your body will think baby only needs a little bit so that’s all you will produce. Stay hydrated and make sure you eat enough calories. Also make sure baby eats at least every 2hrs and if they sleep more than that pump. Also if you have a hypothyroid stay away from fenugreek as it will dry you up. 42+ months of nursing between my 2 kids who had oral ties and still going strong with my youngest (11m).

Power Pumping, lots of oatmeal and water!

Apple cider vinegar will not only help production but it helps with flow

Contact a lactation consultant in your area. They are a great support.

Don’t give up. I wasn’t able to breastfeed past 4 months with my first 2 but with my third I was determined, nothing was going to stop me. I tried lactation cookies and smoothies. I think what helped the most was making sure I was feeding him every couple hours and pumping a little after. I also drank a ton of body armors and water.

Body armor drinks did wonders for me, also oatmeal, drinking plenty of water and letting baby nurse as often as they want. Good luck :slightly_smiling_face:

By any chance did you start your period while you were breastfeeding? I breastfed both of mine for about 6 months & then one day my milk was just gone both times. No matter what I did I couldn’t get it back up & I exclusively breastfed. I started having my period again when my kids were about 4 months old both times. When I talked to my doctor about it they said unfortunately when your cycle returns it signals the body to stop producing milk because it goes back into “reproduce” mode instead of staying in “nurture” mode.

Body armor hydration drinks !!

Stay hydrated and feed on demand. Oh and the amount you pump is not an accurate indication of how much you’re producing. Your supply will regulate after so many weeks. With my youngest, I could barely pump anything after 3 months pp and he breastfed until he was 2.5 years old. Good luck, mama.

I started drinking oat milk! And using my Hakka when I was feeding.

Oatmeal , water :droplet: lots of water :droplet: .

I’ve heard drinking a beer is good for producing milk .I have a niece who did this and she said it totally worked

There’s 2 people I seen that posted about body armor drinks. I breastfed fed my boys for a yr both times. My milk supply started dropping and I had randomly seen the body armor drinks so I got me a couple and within the first few pumps I was able to have so much more milk. It was amazing. So I’d drink 4 bottles of body armor a day and I had an over supply so I could have enough milk.

Fenugreek pills and lots of water

Milky Mama, LLC but emergency brownies and the latte they work I order every month.

Sorry, what I’m going to tell you is culturally related to my country. Don’t know if the trigger product will be available in yours. My mama and grandma cooked dried bombay duck in a curry sauce and made black lentils soup as a side dish. It has the most disgusting and gross smell ever but it’s a 100% milk supply trigger dear. I had to wear breastpads within 45mins of eating these, I was so engorged.

You should look into joining Legendairy Mamas the group is run by qualified IBCLCs and they have amazing support, you can ask any questions and along with information from skilled IBCLCs you will get lots of help from other Mamas.

You need to REMOVE MILK to MAKE MILK. There’s no special drink or anything that’ll boost your supply. Your supply is based off demand and supply. Your baby demands the food and your supply will Increase. Latch latch latch. You replace a feeding with formula that will affect your supply. I’ve been breastfeeding my daughter for 16 months.

Lots of water and A beer now and then…

I was always told to pump breast milk 8 times a day for 7 minute’s or something like that. Get a pump and breast milk freezer bags (wait until closer to due date) and freeze the pumped milk.
