Me and my husband I just bought a new mattress today and will be starting to potty my daughter soon. so I’m asking for help or tips on what can I do to prevent my daughter from wetting the bed during the night time I’m considering buying a mattress pad or a brolly sheet but it’s very hard to find a good mattress sheet that is waterproof because I see a lot of bad reviews on the majority I saw online so does anybody know any good products that would prevent any accidents going to the mattress while potty training? And also, any good advice on how to start potty training? Thank you!
We are focusing on daytime training first n just have ours in night pull-ups. This way if she has an accident everything is safe.
If she wakes up i ask about going but Don’t push the issue because that made it worse for us
We got ours a seat n panties and just slowly introduced it. N rewarded her. She will be 2 in august and is great about just pulling herself up on the seat and going when shes bare or heading in their and i help pull things down and we put stickers on the back of the toilet lid so its a game to fill it up and if we leave i put a pull up over the panties and bring almost like dog poop bags to put any accidents in till we get home and the pullup keeps her dry
Get a zip on plastic cover and put a waterproof mattress pad over it. It will stay new.
I tried to potty train my daughter when she was 2 but she was not interested so I tried again the week she turned 3. To get her ready I played potty time songs for several months and would talk to her about using the potty. It took about a week to potty train and a month to potty train her over night. Her pediatrician told me to have her wear pull ups to bed and once she goes 2 weeks straight without waking up wet she will be ready to sleep without them…
Always buy mattress cover and you can use mattress pads like puppy pads on bed. Save from washing sheets along. Or put in pull ups at night. Cut off all drinks bout hr before bedtime and potty before bed. Wake up before you go to sleep to go potty again
I have a mattress pad still for both of my boys beds, they’ve been potty trained for awhile but still to protect the bed from maybe spilled water or something, or even when stomach bug comes knocking and they get sick in bed.
Take her from diaper to underwear. Any plastic waterproof cover will do . Have a potty where you spend most of your time and constantly ask if she needs to go …make a big deal if she does . All depends on her age too .
Put a plastic shower curtain under a mattress pad… best protection we’ve ever had while potty training
Always take her to the bathroom when you go. That way it’s not a surprise or a fear. I put adult hospital pads under my child’s sheet. He wasn’t a squirmer so that helped. What I liked about the pad was it dried quickly and he wasn’t wet all night.
You need a zippered, waterproof cover and some good luck!
I set my alarm for every 3 hours and took them to the bathroom in the middle of the night till they got it down and went on their own. Stop drinks at a certain time before bed. And I just used underwear.
Line the mattress with Chuck pads then apply the fitted sheets. They are super cheap and easy to replace if an accident happens.
Walmart get the good one I’d tell you the name but the box is put up. You can spill anything on them you may wake up soaking wet but the mattress will be dry.
Focus on getting her potty trained during the day first. Once she’s good during the day, work on night.
My daughter was potty trained by the time she was 2.5 but still got a pull up at night because she would still have accidents. When she was just over 3, she told me she didn’t want to wear pull-ups to bed anymore. We used Goodnights on her. I told her if she can go a week without an accident, she can stop wearing them. She stayed dry for a week so we stopped using them. She just turned 5 and still hasn’t had an accident at night.
I’m happy I let her tell me when she wanted to stop wearing them at night. She was ready. We limit her water in take before bed & make sure she potties before bed.
I start out training during the day, and wait until they’re well established before taking their overnight pull-ups away. Take her to the potty periodically and when you go. Make a big fuss over her going. We do a special potty dance and song. They also get stickers, and so many stickers earns a trip to pick out a new toy. I still use mattress pads in case of sickness, for my little ones.
We bought waterproof covers from Walmart. They work well.
I put the extra large pads you use for potty training puppies down under the fitted sheet so it wouldn’t go through to the mattress. They are made to hold pee and if you get the extra large it holds a decent amount of pee. It was big enough so if he moved around he was still on the pad, never leaked through to the mattress.
A dog pad. That would only work if she stays in one spot.
Always buy a cover! We buy the hypoallergenic ones from Walmart, cheap and work wonders.
Mattress pad that zippers. Then a flat on under the sheets. Then the sheet.
Definitely a mattress cover! I definitely learned the hard way and my daughter ruined her bed because she always had accidents. I stopped drinks two-three hours before she went to sleep. I made her pee before she went to bed and then I woke her up before I went to bed. I work and have another child so I couldn’t wake up ever two/three hours just to fight to wake her up for another hour. Just stay on her during the day and before and after nap times. Help train her bladder during the day when you can pay attention to the time. It’s hard and takes different amounts of times for kids so don’t rush if she’s not ready.
This is what I have, it works great!
We did child-led potty training. Once she indicated to us she needed to go (on the potty specifically) we started wearing undies instead of pull-ups. (Age 2). She had it down in a couple of days. We put pull-ups on over night just to be safe, but she was in underwear with no accidents in no time. Use TENA bed pads if you’re wanting to be extra cautious.
NEVER shame your kiddo for accidents. It can happen to the best of us.
Also maybe introduce her to public restrooms to normalize automatic flushing toilets because they can terrify kids.
We seriously use puppy pads , work great
I took 2 garbage bags cut one side lay flat on top of the mattress use an electical tape to hold it in one place. Theres your protection f o r your mattress
Don’t rush/force nighttime…pull-ups are your friend. Daytime only. The night will come later. Try putting two waterproof mattress pads on your bed to protect. Then a regular mattress pad.
Pampers easy ups at night & always go size up for instance 3t-4 t say 30-40 lbs & with our daughter being 28lbs They’ll hold the weight. In addition you can always buy a mattress protector fitted sheet.
Large dog pads! Still use the mattress protector sheet though with it
My daughter has epilepsy and other additional needs. She was late being potty trained. Physically she was ready. Mentally it was a fight. So nights where never an issue.
One of the signs of being ready to be potty trained is being dry over night.
So my issue was that she has seizure clusters. During these clusters she is completely incontinent. And can’t be left. So doing laundry is a no go, she was in my bed and changing the cheers 30/40 times a day wasn’t going to happen so I got these https://www.incontinencechoice.co.uk/vivactive-washable-bed-pad-white-2000ml-single.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxoferdWd8AIVVYBQBh1z0wKJEAQYBCABEgJ48vD_BwE
They are Kylie, reusable incontinent bed pads. They are using in nursing homes and hold So much water. They are completely water proof aswell. They saved my bed over and over again. Defo worth a try. What I will say is get the bigger pads because kids wiggle and move so much its daft
Why don’t you try Walmart. I think I puchased one and I have it for 5 years already. It is great.
I got a great waterproof mattress pad at Ross.
Plastic waterproof cover which you put a quilted mattress pad over
Puppy pads is what I used lol
Pull ups or the like
Make sure she (not just you) are ready. It’s so much easier where They are ready. If her bedtime is 8pm then cut off drinks about 6 or 6:30pm. Go potty every 30 min for 2 hours before bed. It gets annoying bc she won’t always have to go but it’s the repetition. Positive encouragement. Don’t punish for accidents unless it is intentional or out of spite
Yeah get the mattress cover. Or even a bed bug cover same thing. You do not want to add extra work to the bed wetting . Trust me on that . My daughter even tho I started as early as I did my son it took her til 4 to be diligent . Even then she was a lazy kid when it came to potty . Each kid can be so different .
Got our pads in Aldi during a baby sale. I bought two and they’re so good I loaned one to my daughter to sleep on during her pregnancy in case her waters broke in the night
Stop liquids after a certain time before bedtime. Waterproof mattress pad and wake her up in the middle of the night to go pee.
I got a plastic sheet from dollar General. Works great
You can get people pee pads at cvs, etc.
I put a plastic fitted cover sheet on first, then a regular sheet over the mattress to protect it. My son did sweat more because of the plastic, so he needed lighter pajamas, even in the winter. It did save his mattress from being ruined though.
Leave the heavy plastic shipping cover on then a mattress pad. Pullups at night and no drinking after say, 7pm.
I used dog pads. It was way cheaper and tossable if she messed them. No liquid about 45 minutes before bed. Potty right before bed. Or a few before if you have something else in your routine right before. Accidents happen
For daytime potty training we waited until we had a long weekend during the summer. Spent most of the day outside… she wore just undies and a t-shirt and had the potty outside… had her sit on it every 30 min…the first day she had all accidents, second day she went on the potty a couple times, third and fourth day she did great and was day time trained from there on. We use pull ups at night time until she was ready and always had the potty next to her bed. That all worked great for us… I love the training panties too. They soak some of the pee to prevent a huge mess but make it so they still feel wet. Good luck.
I took some of those huge pads they put under you when you’re in labor and used those. They move around a little bit work great
A mattress store that sells mattresses also sell good waterproof mattress pads.
Let her be completely dry during the day first
I’ve bought really good mattress protectors at Leon’s & The Brick furniture stores, not sure if you have either where you are from but they are definitely worth the extra money!!!
Yes, plastic. I saw another post about bed wetting. The child was 10. I wet the bed until I was 25. My mom rubbed my nose in the sheets (like some ppl do dogs) I was sleeping on the couch with my fiance, and he didn’t care, he just flipped the cushions ove and we went back to sleep, cuddling. Don’t tramatise your kids.
I never did it again.
She made me sit on the toilet for hours. I never meant to do it, I was asleep and didn’t know until I woke up.
Always buy a waterproof mattress pad! Get extra sheets.
I don’t suggest doing a hard stop on liquids at night, not waking them up to go. Obviously be aware of their liquid intake but in my experience, children that aren’t drinking liquids in the evenings aren’t actually teaching their body to wake up to the sensation of needing to pee. It’s simply keeping them from having to do so and as they get older they are more likely to have accidents. Waking them up in the middle of the night to try and pee is more disruptive to sleeping than helpful.
Start on a weekend and don’t make any plans. Every 30-40 minutes take her to the bathroom. Make it fun. During naps, a pull-up. First thing you do when she’s awake, bathroom. If the pull-up is dry CELEBRATE! She will likely not poop in the toilet until she’s mastered peeing.
Pull-up at night… celebrate when it’s dry and over time it will be dry more often.
Going forward from that weekend, it’s still pretty constant but not every 30 minutes! You’ll get a feel for how often she needs to go. Before you leave the house, she needs to go. And ALWAYS bring extra clothes (and towels…wet car seats).
Many times you’ll feel like diapers are easier… they are!.. but we all have to learn. It’s not as easy as a boy… the side of a road can save you in a pinch with a boy, not so easy with a girl.
