When and how do you start shopping for your kids for Christimas? Lookin for ways to save money while looking like we went all out…
Buy things through out the year.
I normally start in Summer as soon as I finish with the school things .
And I also look for clearance sales
I’m normally already done. I buy thru the year. I haven’t been able to save a dime this last year. Or even have a little extra to pick something up here and there. Smh. Getting a second job… again. I’m just going to wait till after Christmas. My kids are very understanding when it comes to waiting for the sales.
I start shopping in the summer and just grab things whenever I see them on sale. This seems to help because then I am not spending a big chunk of money all at once around Christmas time.
Start the day after Christmas. Try to catch the after Christmas sales. Buy throughout the year when you see something that you think someone would like.
I save all my PC points all year long then shop at Superstore for everyone. I also have the PC Mastercard, so I usually have a good chunk of change.
I buy an item or 2 every paycheck something small for each kid
I shop clearence merch all year and save what I find in totes in my basement sometimes I’ll use it for a birthday but mostly I save everything in them for Christmas. Right now walmart has a lot on clearence to make room for new stuff for christmas…
I start in the summer by buying one or two things each time I get payed. Then by Christmas, they have a decent amount of things but not overly extravagant.
I don’t really shop all year bc my kids are young and their likes change often I usually start shopping around August. Especially for things I have to order online. Target and Walmart (by me anyway) will start heavily marking down toys at the end of summer to move new product in for Christmas so you can find some good deals. Just keep an eye out for sales and stuff and purchase things when they’re cheaper. If you wanna save up money start in January.
Adding: don’t be afraid to look at places like 5below too. They always have cute games, toys, makeup, clothes for cheap.
Start buying inexpensive gifts now.
Buy a few things each month and put it back
It won’t help this year, but maybe next year every paycheck buy a gift card starting in January and then you can either pass them out or use them to buy Christmas presents
We buy diapers at target when they have their $20-$30 gift cards when you buy $100 worth of diapers. Usually once a month or so. Then save those.
Walmart cash for members.
Cash back on credit cards at 3%
Usually those combined give us about $200-$300.
Depends on how old your kids are…. Gifts are usually not remembered so don’t guilt yourself if there’s not $ for much. Older kids, you can explain that there won’t be as many gifts this year. Do free experiences during holidays, they will remember feeling loved & spending time together.
We start in January every year. I have 5 kids so we never stop saving up for Christmas. My husband and I started this tradition a long time ago. We set up a money market savings account with super high interest rate that allows like 4 transactions a month and started putting money into it specifically for Christmas savings. The first year, with what we managed to save plus the return on the interest we had saved enough to leave a significant balance and spend about 2k per kid. After that year, we just kept doing it and it’s kept growing and we capped our spending at 2k per kid and we are now to a point that Christmas doesn’t effect us at all. It was the best thing we ever did.
I buy stuff on clearance all year and store it in totes… I also buy stuff at consignment stores and yard sales… It’s not about how much money you spent it’s the thought that counts
Get started early and have a plan. I have already selected all the gifts and have chipped away at a fair bit of it.
